Super flavorful soup bases here and friendly service! Make sure to join the waitlist in advance online or there will definitely be quite a wait especially on a weekend night. My favorite meats were the prime beef rib options! I love the mushroom and vegetable option as well. Although this isn't AYCE, you are definitely paying for the quality. I recommend getting the 4 soup option so you can try a bit of everything. Be warned that the spicy soup is very spicy even at the lowest level. The inside has lots of seating, panda dolls, and TVs around. They don't validate parking though so there's a fee for that too.

I love hotpot so I was excited to try a new location. I believe this is where the old California…read moreTortilla was many years ago. The inside had a lot more tables than I thought and the space was bigger than I thought. If i'm being honest, I first chose this place due to the conveyor belt, robot, and $20 lunch price point. Unfortunately, I only kind of got one of those. To my shock, the price increased to $25 for lunch and the conveyor belt was no longer working. I was honestly most excited about the conveyor belt. I saw some reviews that said due to covid they stopped it but if you ordered things, it was sent that way. Unfortunately I think the conveyor belt hasn't been in use for a while because they had decor and everything on it. They did have to robot but it only delivered drink and desserts sometimes. There were even times the robot was on its way to deliver something and the waiter stopped it in the middle of the walkway and deliver the item himself. I wouldn't say the experience was bad but I think it was subpar. Although I did like that the tables give you individual pots because I've been to some places where six people have to share one pot in the middle and it's chaos because you have to reach over people so the individual pot was great. In terms of the actual food it was not bad. The server was actually nice and brought us angus beef which was a dinner item, although we were there for lunch. I mad a great sauce from the sauce bar. I loved the appetizers they had. The fried rice and noodles were exactly how I love it. The fried rice was how i'd have it growing it. All and all loved it and will probably go back at some point. Parking was a little of a hassle so I would keep that in mind. Even during lunch it was hard to find adequate street parking.

Everything was good except for one thing, which I think is pretty important and influences my final score. When we arrived, I told the server we were new to hot pot and we wanted to try two broths. He showed us the iPad ordering device and told me that we should order a half and half pot for $1 extra to get two broths. So, I ordered a half and half pot, and then ordered a variety of meats and fish. We went up to get veggies, which were all being stored at a good cold temp and all looked good. Then a single SMALL pot (they have two sizes of hot pot) was delivered to our table, half one broth and half the other. As I put some of the ingredients in (we were feeding two people), the hot/spicy broth spilled over to the other (tom yum) broth, and essentially turned the whole meal into a spicy broth meal. We got no taste of the tom yum. As we ended the meal, I noticed that other couples had two different pots. We essentially were cramming food for two people into a single pot (and it was one of the small pots, not one of the big ones). As we went to pay the check, I asked the server if we should have gotten two individual pots, each with a different broth. He said "oh yes. I should have told you that." What??!!? So, we basically spent well almost $90 (including tip) for a single small pot of spicy broth mixed with other broth, and having to spend the time minimizing the transfer of broths from one side to the other by minimizing the amount of food we put into the small pot. Yes, I'm ticked off (and I don't tick off easily). The meal would have been very good, but I feel like we got taken advantage of and the server, when he saw us struggling to keep the broths separate and knew he should have been served two pots, didn't say a word, apologize, or offer us any discounts. I reached out twice to the restaurant through Yelp, but heard nothing back. Again, the meats looked good, the veggies looked good, the sauce station was a nice addition. But everything was crammed into a small pot that tasted the same. And they charged us an extra dollar for the privilege! Ugh. I'm really disappointed - and ticked off.

I ordered a variety of veggies and fish and some chicken, and side orders of kimchi and cucumber in chili sauce. There's a sauce bar with a variety of ingredients and some helpful suggestions for sauces. Because they sat me at a table for 4, they invited me to try two hot pots (which was very nice). I got a seafood and mushroom. I also made myself a few sauce combinations. The food arrived quickly. Looked great. Food was fresh and cold and the meats (I only got chicken but looked at other's tables) looked great. The servers were helpful and friendly. Filled my water glass when I asked them to and took away empty plates pretty promptly. The place is equipped with a conveyor to transport plates of veggies, but it wasn't operating (maybe because it wasn't crowded). There's a robotic server that they used on occasion to bring drinks and plates of food to different tables. I liked this very much. The broths were good and the food was fresh. The cucumber and kimchi were very tasty, especially the kimchi. Each portion I ordered was large - one portion of marinated shrimp was 8 healthy-sized shrimp and the white fish (bass filet) was 4 pieces. Sweet potato was 4 pieces per order, etc. So be aware of that when you order, especially if you come solo. There's a lot that comes out with each item ordered. There's ice cream in a freezer for dessert and also cake and orange pieces. Dinner has more items in the menu, including more extensive seafood and meat offerings. I think the price is reasonable. I plan to come back . . . likely more than once!

There was so much variety that I wasn't able to try everything. Lobster, clam, crab leg, oyster, scallop, abalone, oxtail, rib, fish, cuttlefish, chicken, galbi, shrimp, sushi, and sashimi to name a few. The abalone was a bit dry, probably from sitting out for a while before being eaten. The pig bun was cute, but I was expecting custard and it was actually a red bean filling. I did not enjoy the colorful dumplings. I'm glad they also had eel sashimi, but it was not refilled before we left after it ran out. This big selection is only for dinner or weekends. If you go for weekday lunch, the variety of food drastically decreases. I loved their chicken soup and Buddha jumps over the wall soup. There was also a nice selection of bubble tea and drinks that are complementary with the meal. You can also add on hotpot. There is also a selection of dessert. There's also ramen, but the quality is not as authentic. I love mango, but unfortunately the mango in the fruit section was not ripe. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and they did automatic 12% tip and we were not able to adjust (you can only pay more tip). 2 hour time limit for dining in.

After we were seated, there was so much to try. A member of the wait staff must bring the hotpot (it's small, but that's okay because the table fills up with plates quickly) and sodas, if ordering. I ordered the mushroom broth flavoring (none of the hotpot's have pork-based favoring). Everything else is available to pick up on your own (Ramen, Buffet items, hot pot items, boba teas, and all of the dessert items). Staff came fairly regularly to pick up empty plates. Bathrooms were okay, no lines when I needed to stop by. I would love to see Umi have handwashing sinks outside of the restrooms though, not sure where they would put them, but that would be amazing! It was busy when we dined for lunch, but it was not ever so busy that I was waiting for food or platters were empty. Umi also offers carry out for food and even boba teas for additional cost. There is an automatic 12% service fee added to each check, regardless of the size of the party. If paying with cash, there is a 3% discount. There is plenty of free outdoor parking all over the shopping complex Umi is in. I tried not to think of this too much, but Umi only uses plastic/disposable plates. All that plastic leeching into my food didn't stop me, but it made me uncomfortable and stressed. The bowls for soup were plastic too. The silverware was metal and the bowls the Ramen was served in was ceramic. I asked if by chance non-plastic materials are available at Dinner and was told that only plastic is ever used. I understand why (the kitchen cannot keep up with washing the plates, I am sure), but I am unsure of when I would want to return because of this unpleasant feeling.

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

The tofu dish was a solid vegetarian source, with fried soy braised tofu triangles, broccoli, mushrooms s, cabbage and carrots. The best dish is their shrimp.
