***Update 3-28-2023**** They have fixed the gaps by adding a board to the bottom of the fence where there were gaps. ****update1**Fence Me In has contacted me again and offered to put boards across the bottom of the fence to close the larger gaps free of charge. While I would have preferred to have the fence looking nice and clean and done properly the first time, at least they have responded with a solution that doesn't involve me paying money to fix their error. ____ Fence Me In installed a privacy fence at my house a year ago. Long story short: They did not put the fence all the way to the ground: in places it appears they piled dirt around the bottom of the fence to hide how much of a gap there was. That dirt has settled over the year, leaving significant gaps at the bottom, some as much as 6". Basically my dog has figured this out and is squeezing under the fence-- and she is a 65lb lab mix. I reached out to Fence Me In but it took awhile to catch up with them. In the interim, I put some wire barriers around the bottom of the fence to keep my lab mix from squeezing under it . It looks pretty tacky and has been pretty pricey to do. I am disappointed in the quality of work, the lack of responsiveness, and the danger to my dog. She has gotten loose several times while I dealt with this. Finally spoke to the company. He basically told me that a dog eared wood privacy fence is supposed to have 6" gaps if the property grade changes from front to back or side to side. He then offered to charge me to put boards along the bottom of the fence. I've had fences installed in mountainous areas where the yard drop off was much more dramatic than this. Those companies did the work to make sure the fence went close to the ground. I advised that they should have asked me what I wanted instead of piling dirt up to hide the gaps. He said well, we would have had to cut each board and charge you for that to make it ground level on the bottom. I feel that they should have given me this option. I have a cousin in the fence business in another state and have installed fences in four houses. Never had a problem like this. read more

Outstanding work. Kent, the owner, John, my point of contact and Mynor the installer, all worked together to put a face on the quote "team work makes the dream work". I was hesitant to try this company; because of the previous reviews. However; I was able to look past the comments to the final product...and of course BBB rating..yes they still exists. When in doubt them out. Furthermore; they returned my calls promptly, set up appointments and was on time to consult, and to do the job..as promised. I had gotten 3 additional estimates, and their quotes was the best! When I questioned John abt the prev reviews, his answer appeared to be honest. He wasn't aware of these reviews on Yelp. He explained that they did have problems with pick/cleanups at that time. His straightforwardness was really encouraging. There were a few communication problems, but that was the year that it rained a lot so I can see they were probably behind in installations. They built my fence four years ago and went out of their way to prepare everything for my HOA. Four years later and the fence still looks amazing. I think I have one of the best fences in the neighborhood. read more

We got several quotes from local fence companies but went with Fence Me In because of Kent, the owner's professionalism and down to earth attitude. Mo and Donnell did the install and they were outstanding, both friendly and kind as well as professional. They built the horizontal deck fences first and took a great deal of time with us as we couldn't decide how much space we wanted between each board. Fence is beautiful and we love it. They then built the front yard fence. We wanted our fence to be level at the top and not run along with the landscape of the yard, they never questioned us and did exactly what we asked them to do. They were always available and polite answering our questions. Both very hard workers and great guys. Bev, a supervisor, came by to check on the progress and he was also very nice, professional and friendly. We enjoyed having them here and their work was outstanding. Fence me in did a nice job on our fence. The job was pushed back several times (only a day or two each time) due to rain but they were on top of communication regarding this. Bev answered my questions thoroughly when I called. I had no issues with delays as long as everything got installed right. They started work on the day before Thanksgiving and actually came out Thanksgiving day to finish. Wow! The fence looks great and they left 1/2 inch of space underneath all the way around just as I asked. The workers did a great job of cleaning up when they finished. The job was right on target price wise...the fence looks great also. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that there is already rust on the gate door lock slides and washers. Just some extra work I will need to put in. Overall, I'm happy and it was a good experience. read more

The company was very responsive and prompt with communication leading up to the build. Someone came to our house twice to assess and reassess our damaged fence and provide quotes. Everything was very professional and straightforward. They were even flexible with us moving the date back. The installation began on time and the fence itself looks very good. Despite all of that, I will not use this company again. This is due entirely to the state our property was left in after the installation. I understand that the crew had to remove some limbs and branches to get things done, no problem. My issue is that these limbs were left all over our property and some even in the alley that people drive through. An even bigger issue is that our flower beds were pretty destroyed. The plants themselves were demolished (there was never a mention ahead of time that the plants would be destroyed) and the brick surrounding them was also moved and broken and never put back. I also found large chunks of cement around the fence that were never disposed of. Truly disappointed in how our property was treated. The company asked for my feedback on clean up and I provided it, but never heard back from them. No offer to come back and clean up, no offer to provide a discount for the trouble, no apology. Very disappointing from a company that otherwise seemed really solid. read more

Kent with Fence Me In appeared to to the right person to install a portion of my damaged fence. He was extremely professional and assured me that he would follow up with an estimated. After several unanswered text and phone calls it became apparent that he was unreliable. His last reply was that he had mailed me the estimate. That estimate never arrived. We hired Fence Me In to install a 400+ foot fence in late July 2018. Once our HOA approved the fence, the installation was set for less than 2 weeks later. We had already communicated to Fence Me In that we didn't have a set time-frame for the project, so it was a pleasant surprise to have it done so soon. We chose a flat-top picket fence after considering the beautiful alternating picket design (wood) and an aluminum fence. We were really happy with our choice, as the completed fence looks elegant and STURDY. It's easily the nicest fence I've seen in our subdivision (seriously!), and I think that Fence Me In would get a lot of interested customers if it was visible from the road. Our crew was led by Moe, and I'd hire him in a heartbeat for any project around our house. He and his men were on time every day, kept me informed about progress, and did an outstanding job on the fence itself. All of our posts were set in concrete and each board was installed individually. The attention to detail really shows, as our backyard has all sorts of little hills and inclines and the fence follows them all perfectly. The crew came out to pick up leftover materials within a day and clean up (very thorough!). Communication with the office was always a pleasure (thanks Cynthia!) and our sales person (Kent) was really thorough and helpful. I will happily recommend Fence Me In and will definitely call them when we decide to renovate our deck. We love our new fence! read more

Everything was going as planned until the last day. My sister was at work when she received a call from one of the workers advising that his boss instructed him to build the gate post beginning against the house (verses centered with the driveway). He told her that his was against his better judgement and that she needed to call his boss ASAP and let them know the gate should be centered. This resulted in a $250 upcharge on the total job. She was essentially charged for the company's inconvenient labor costs of having to come out another day to complete the job. Since she's not a fan of confrontation, she just wrote a check to be done with the situation. Even the project manager, Jim, agreed that the gate look much better centered when he went to her house to get the check. He went on to tell her that he would reduce the upcharge by $50. (big deal). Once the job was complete, they left garbage, fast food restaurant trash, leftover materials and the old wooden fence on her property for 10 days! Mind you, disposal fees were included in the total cost for the job. The company never acknowledged reimbursing her for her inconvenience as they requested reimbursement for theirs. This company will not hesitate to shift additional expenses related to the job onto their customers. My sister is a first time homebuyer and she trusted this company's guidance and expertise for the installation of her new fence. I only wish she would've consulted with me prior to signing such a high dollar contract with these people. read more

My husband and I used Fence Me In for a privacy fence in Chesterfield County. In putting up the fence they were professional and timely; however, did not comply to county codes regarding fence height. Chesterfield County states that it is the contractors responsibility to obtain the proper permits for fences 6 foot or higher, they did not do so. When a neighbor complained about the fence, my husband and I were left with a $300 hearing fee with the county for a zoning application revision, which was ultimately denied and had to have the fence cut back to 4 feet around the perimeter. When we notified Kent, he agreed that my husband and I would only have to pay for labor, which we relunctantly agreed to. The fence needed to be amended within a month, which did not happen. When the team came to fix the fence they were professional and did a great job, the fence looked nice; however, the next weekend a "clean-up crew" came and removed lumber from our yard without our permission. This lumber was from when we had a privacy fence built at our previous residence and we had to physically move ourselves from Richmond to Chesterfield County after closing. We were met with the excuse that they often over order lumber and the lumber was not technically ours. We told Kent that the lumber was, in fact, ours and we were assured that the lumber would be returned without issue. It has now been three-four weeks and our phone calls are being dodged and we have not had our stolen property returned or been financially compensated for the stolen property. read more
