I took my black leather-soled dress shoes in to be repaired here. Each shoe had holes beginning to…read morewear through the soles. The man at the counter presented me with two options: (a) replace the worn leather sole with a new leather sole or (b) replace the worn leather sole with an all rubber sole. I chose option (a) since it was a bit cheaper. When I returned the next day for pickup the shoes had been polished and looked brand new! He replaced the worn leather sole with a new leather sole and then applied a sole-saver (a thin piece of rubber glued to the leather sole to prevent wear and provide better traction) over the entire sole for no extra charge! The quality was superb! I was so impressed that I took off my pair of brown leather-soled dress shoes that I was wearing and gave them to him to put sole-savers on, and I walked out of the store with the newly repaired black shoes. I later had the heels replaced on another pair of slip-on dress shoes. This has been over one year ago, and the soles and heels on my shoes are still in great condition. This business believes in quality materials and quality workmanship. The prices are reasonable for the repair of quality shoes (i.e., Johnston and Murphy, Cole Haan, Allen Edmunds, etc.). Essentially, I extended the lives of three pairs of shoes for what one pair of quality dress shoes would have cost. This business also does other leather care services that I will be sure to take advantage of if the need ever arises. I highly recommend this business!

The machines in there are HUGE and old but it looks really cool. Yes, COOL is the only word that come into my mind when I think of that. You can smell the leather and the radio plays country music. Little decorations on the wall and the little bench on the side if you want to wait are just part of the charm. Well, I went in there and explained him what has happened and he just fixed for me, for free. I was so amazed and the shoes has been fine since then. I went back with a leather purse, a real Louis Vuitton, with a strap problem as well and he actually had the perfect leather piece that fit in color as well as material. He explained to me that he buys left over scraps from factories so he could fix things like that. I paid something like 30 dollars for it and I can't say how happy I am. I have taken everything there. A belt to get an extra hole, shoes and purses. It's a great place, very friendly and not pricey at all. Sometimes it is worth to fix things and not just go and buy them new.

Drake Cleaners called back with an estimate within a couple of hours explaining that the leather would be sent out and an explanation of what was needed. I would expect this from any local cleaner that's been around for awhile. BUT THEN I asked Mitch (I think that was the name?) if he honestly thought it was worth the $150 minimum to fix it (zipper + all of the imperfections that I hadn't really noticed). He joked that as much as he'd like to have my money, it really probably was not worth it considering the cost of a new leather jacket nowadays (unless the jacket had sentimental value, which it does not). NOW THAT is some good honest business dealings. I do believe I will travel the extra couple blocks from my old dry cleaners (+ alterations) over to Drake now because they are good people. :)
