This is a new purse, purchased from the coach store in Nashville last spring and never carried. Went to use and noticed the tread becoming undone. Called Coach and was told to pay $75 to repair an obviously defective product. Driving and saw this shoe repair. Paid $10 to repair the tread. Purse looks amazing. They were supposed to open at 10am. There were about 5 of us at the door waiting. Finally the wife shows around 11:00 to open. She can't transact business and said her husband would be there by noon. I waited. Went to a store close by. Came back at noon. Husband looks at my shoes and says, rudely I might add, that he can't do it. I knew that wasn't the case because I have had heels cut down before. Took them to another shop on Summer and had perfectly and quick service. I won't be back. read more

It is really hard to find shoe repair shops these days. It's a trade that no young people are entering. I went to two other shops before I came to this one. The repairs at the other shops were unimpressive. The hard working Ukrainian-American did the best job of the three. I dropped off a back pack to have a zipper replaced. I was to pick it up 7/24/23 but there has been a sign on the door stating " Closed. Emergency". I was really excited to finally try this place out especially due to the part of town (which is very nice/upscale); however, what I didn't know was an asshole worked there. I went to get a "quote" for reimbursement and asked the cobbler to write it down so I can submit to the company as I can't submit a "verbal" quote for reimbursement. He said "no" and was done. The issue: He was rude and has lost a potential recurring customer. I guess he makes enough money where new customers no longer needed. Secondly, it reeked of cigarette smoke as you entered the building. I also ran into a random person in the parking who saw I had shoes and he said the guy was rude to him as well. The man asked for a price quote for two pairs of shoes and the cobbler, "it's probably too much for you" and proceeded with $50-60. So now we judge people by how they look to confirm if they can "afford" something or not...I'm over "privileged" American's who feel they can just do and say what they want!!! So in less than 10 minutes this RICH cobbler lost 2 potential repeat customers...well maybe this review will get him to change his act with "certain" customers and learn to create everyone as equal. If he didn't want to do the work, damnit just be HONEST and say that...I could respect you more as human being. I'll let YOU be the judge!! read more

I had a pair of older Rockport shoes. I remembered how comfortable they were, but i forgot why I buried them in the bottom of my closet. I put them on, and after a couple of minutes I remembered the problem. I tend to wear out soft soles very unevenly. Rockport used a very cushy, but very soft Vibram sole in this style. I tried to find a similar style, but didn't really like what I found. I dug through the Vibram website and found Cobblestone was a Vibram approved shop. I dropped these off with Vlad the Cobbler, I immediately realized after seeing some of his work - this is my guy. He knew EXACTLY what I wanted done immediately. Vibram makes about a zillion soles, no shop can stock them all. I expected about four weeks turnaround, Vlad wrapped it up in 2.5 weeks. Total satisfaction. The replacement soles took a few days of break-in, as expected. The work was old school craftsman level. I found Vladimir to be professional, courteous, and highly skilled. The place is a one man shop. He gets straight to the point, tells you what needs to be done, and gives you a price on the spot. You will need to pre-pay. Do not let this put you off. It's great to find a shop that will do the work professionally, and you won't get surprised by the price when you return. Great work, excellent service. read more

He did look at me. A second person entered the store and he stopped working. I would rather send my shoes to Timbuktu than to have this person repair my shoes. This review is long overdue. I used to go to this shop when it was adjacent to the Kroger on S. Mendenhall but I took a hiatus (and used Galtelli's) after they moved (not far) to Sanderlin. Now I am back and feel guilty for ever going astray. Repairs take ~ 5-7 days and are completed by a nice old-world gentleman who will tell you exactly what your shoes need (and this will probably be more than you realized) but who will also tell you if those shoes are beyond repair. If he is telling you your shoes need something, then they do ... it isn't an upsell on your shoe repair it's a guy telling you what is wrong / about to break on your footwear. For $40 I recently had new heel tips, half-soles, shoe tips, and polish put on a pair of my favorite heels. After dropping off this recent pair off I briefly doubted my decision to invest this money on a very well-worn and much broken-in tired pair of shoes purchased at a Kenneth Cole store closing sale years ago. When my designer shoes came back looking 100% better (and as close to new as an older pair could ever hope to be -- almost like new) I realized I had again made a wise choice by listening to the man at Cobblestone Shoe Repair. Craftsmanship is solid and I have never been disappointed in the work here. I used to think it was expensive here (compared to Cobbler rates I paid in New Orleans) and therefore tried other shoes outlets (Galtelli & some spots in my other hometown ... Boston). I now realize my person in New Orleans was the outlet of shoe repair places and that Cobblestone charges the going rate for Memphis while delivering far superior work when compared to the other standard choices in town. I had two pair of shoes repaired here last year. I was unhappy with the work but I wasn't going to leave a bad review because the guy was nice. But I'm wearing one of the pair today and the heel is falling off. This is probably only the second or third time I've worn them since having the heel put on. So I'm a little annoyed. My first complaint was that he didn't even start the work until the day I came in to pick the shoes up - the day that HE said they would be ready. And it was a full week after dropping them off. Then he rushed and did the work in just a few minutes. The work I had done was having the soles repaired on two pair of sandals. The toe on one and the heel on the other. Both sandals have black soles but he repaired them with ugly beige (ace bandage color) rubber. He said that's all he had and I didn't much care at the time because it's the bottom of the shoe. But now that I am wearing them, the ugly replacement heel stands out like a sore thumb. And one of the heels is about to fall off completely because evidently he didn't use enough glue on it. read more

I've been taking my shoes here for about five years, and have always been dealt with fairly. The quality of the repairs is good and he his shot straight with me when I brought him shoes who is useful life has worn out and repair is not worth the effort or dollars. On a saturday morning I found myself with a shoe emergency...I had spilt red wine on my adorable new (and not so cheap) suede ankle boots. I ran to several decently rated places in the area to see if someone could clean/save them. After finding all nearby places closed, I decided to take a trip out to Cobblestone (which is a bit of a hike for me). I was worried since reviews online for this place weren't amazing. I will report though, that I just got my ankle boots back and they are perfect! Almost like a night of careless wine drinking didn't happen. A few things.... Some reviews commented about the customer service/friendliness of the owner. He is in deed a bit distant of an individual, but I get it. He is there to do a job and isn't there to make friends. No love lost. I will say that after seeing my shoes (which I sensed he was slightly proud of taking care of), I did hug him in thanks. He seemed to appreciate it and smiled. They do require you to pay upfront. The cost for me was about $15. I don't know how this compares to other places, but this was much cheaper than replacing the shoes so I'll take it. The hours are better than most local shoe repair places I've visited. Open until 6pm generally, and open 6 days a week. I'm constantly getting shoes reheeled so I will be sure to revisit this place the next time I'm in need and will report out on how service maintains overtime. read more

I read these reviews, particularly the negative ones, and am quite taken aback with the rants. The man who owns the shop has been nothing but kind to me, professional and stoic sometimes, not much of a small talk kind of guy... but if the people who wrote these reviews took a minute to think about who this man was, where he came from and it's culture... maybe it would make a little more sense instead of jumping to conclusions that he doesn't care or is rude. He's from Russia, it's just his way, and he does consistent, solid work. Sometimes he will warn you how much something will cost, but I do the same thing at my shop. And finally, if someone acts in a way you find off putting, examine the body language or actual language you may have been giving off. Or maybe just don't take it personally. Who cares if you think in your mind he is judging you? You just publicly judged the heck out of him. I'm not saying it's an excuse to deliver "poor customer service", but I certainly have never experienced that in my years of going to him. I highly recommend this place, but don't walk in expecting to get huge smiles. He's to the point, always has been. But he's consistent and I definitely trust him with my most beloved pairs of shoes or purses. read more

I Googled shoe repair near my work and Cobblestone Shoe Repair popped up. I took my shoes on my lunch hour and when I got there, I showed the owner that my sister in law's puppy had chewed the strap off of one of my diabetic loafers. He looked at it for a moment and then said he could fix it for $10.50. I was sure it was going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $50. I just picked up my shoes and they are great! This place is amazing! I went in with my softball-playing daughter's favorite softball glove. The glove needed repair so the Velcro closure would work again. I've read good reviews and the few bad. I thought this place was going to be a cobblestone repair, but I guess I was wrong. I was turned off by customer service, I needed to get sole & strap guled. These were Steve Madden $150 shoes, he's comment they can't be guaranteed glued due to man made? I'm saying to my self what does that have to do with it... shoes don't stop being repairable because their man made. I have used Mr. Voin's services for more than 20 years - since he was located in Poplar Plaza. Although it is a longer drive, I didn't hesitate in following him out to his shop on Sanderlin. He either replaces the soles on my shoes or puts tips on the ends where I wear them down. His work is always high-quality, reasonably priced and ready when promised. Work is adequate. They do a better job with repair than shining shoes. My main complaint is that the store shut down for a whole week with no notice. I had shoes there that were supposed to be completed and I was going to take them on a trip with me. I went to pick them up and there was a sign on the door. Very frustrating.
