This place has gone to sh*t in the last year or so. Half the beer taps don't work, the service isn't great (one time a server sat at the bar and started vaping instead of checking on customers). They finally have a whiskey menu which is wildly inaccurate and riddled with misspellings. They run out of certain wines and beers every time we go in. It's gotten to the point where we've given up on it. The ambiance is not cozy at all compared to the Portsmouth location. I don't understand how there aren't more 1 star reviews of this place. read more

This place has moved up the square a bit. Interior of the lounge is plush and pretty well-ventilated, with a nice bar full of somewhat expensive boozes. Retail is on the small side, favoring Rocky Patels, My Father's, Arturo Fuentes and Monte Cristos, it seems. You can find a nice, though not especially extensive, variety of fine cigars here, with prices seeming a dollar or two higher than at other NH places. Friendly staff, in my experience. HOWEVER, be warned that -- during the week, anyway -- the lounge does not open until 4 p.m. (though the retail shop is open). read more

Place got stock of cigars & good prices to boot (Note in my case I'm from MA with a high tax thing but NH got no tax). In the back, they have a comfortable and casual lounge area -- rows of lush armchairs surrounding a big flatscreen TV, table space and conversation areas. My boyfriend lives in Dover and we walk by here once a day and never really thought to check it out, well this past weekend we went inside and were blown away by how awesome this place is! The Bartender: First off, the cigar shop is separate from the bar room, but the shop was closed so we went into the bar and sat down. We were immediately greeted by the bartender, Steve, who was the most professional bartender we have ever met, he shook our hands and formally introduced himself. He gave us a whiskey/ bourbon menu and told us about some of their own house infused spirits, we were extremely impressed. I had ordered a Maker's 46 Old Fashion, and Steve made it absolutely perfect, after that I asked for a cocktail menu because I wanted to change it up and he responded with, "I am the cocktail menu, give me a spirit and we will go from there." It was the coolest, and most impressive thing a bartender has ever done. We were blown away by his knowledge of craft cocktails and wine, and the ability to create something so perfect, on a whim that I would absolutely enjoy, that's when we learned that he is a sommelier! We had planned to go in there for one cocktail while my boyfriend had a cigar, and we ended up staying till close! Every drink Steve made was absolutely perfectly crafted, unique, with some of the wildest ingredients, all tasting absolutely perfect! He made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and made us feel like friends when we left. It was awesome! The Atmosphere: It's classy, elegant, welcoming, and comfortable. Upon walking in we felt at ease, it wasn't like walking into a typical dark, local bar where everyone turns their head and stares when they see new faces, it wasn't like that at all! The bar is a nice size, with comfy chairs, and there is a smoke eater/ ventilation system almost every other seat. I personally don't smoke cigars, but I don't mind the smell of them but it was nice that while my boyfriend was enjoying his cigar, the smoke goes up almost instantly instead of just lingering in the air. They have a living-room like set up, with a huge flat screen TV surrounded by comfy recliners and couches, and in the back of the room they had big corner booths that could accommodate a large group, and also some more intimate sitting areas. The whole vibe was very relaxing, and even all the other customers at the bar were very friendly, it was a place where everyone would talk to everyone else, and it was a nice change opposed to other bars in the area. We sat next to this nice young man who happens to work at the cigar shop, he was extremely knowledgeable in recommending the perfect cigar to my boyfriend. I also really enjoyed this place because the vibe was so perfect it felt like it was a place you could come to watch a game, listen to some music, do some work, or just relax with a nice cocktail, regardless of weather or not you even smoke cigars. The staff was outstanding at making anyone feel comfortable, and we will absolutely be back! In fact, we went Friday night, and then had to go back again on Saturday that's how much we enjoyed it! Final Details: I have been to some pretty high-end bars in Boston and other cities around and I have never met a bartender as professional, and knowledgeable as Steve was. His talent and ability to craft the perfect cocktail goes way above and beyond what you would expect to find in downtown Dover. I would HIGHLY recommend stopping in and checking this place out, weather it's for a cocktail, or cigar with a date, some friends, or even by yourself, it will be well worth the experience! Also do not go here and order a jack and coke....or any other lame one-liquor drink, this is not the place for you. You have to appreciate, or at least enjoy a good, well made cocktail. Walked in here to get vape sauce and was greeted very kindly by the dude behind the counter casually sipping a cup of Joe.. Asked us how we were and what we were looking to purchase and gave us a wide selection of samples to try before buying.. Good environment and friendly vibe.. Dude in the back smoking a big ol cigar jus chillin. My girlfriend and I tried almost every kind of vape sauce there was for free and was even offered to try the hosts personal vape machine. Once we checked out we received a sample bottle of bloody mango vape sauce that is quite intriguing. Deff a good spot to chill, have a drink and smoke. Most deff will return in the future. read more

This use to be one of our favorite spots to come grab a drink and a cigar. Not sure what's changed over the past couple months but it's going down hill quickly. Owners and management appear not to care any longer. Staff is unfamiliar with different cigars and only half the cigars in the menu are even available any longer. I love this place! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about all the products in the store. I have been coming to the Dover location of Federal Cigar for 3 years now, and I have yet to have a bad experience there. The staff remembers who you are and what you either looked at or bought and are always happy to see their repeat customers. This is a smoke shop trying to cash in on the growing ecig or vape popularity they only have house ejuice and there selection of devices is minimal to say the least. The guys behind the counter are nice but not very knowledgeable about Vaping which can be dangerous wen your talking low resistance and battery safety. I spotted this gem as I was driving through Dover, and was in the market for a new e-cig tank so thought I'd check it out. Turned out they were closed, and Chris, the manager was walking out the door. He very nicely opened back up for me, and boy am I glad he did! I wasn't there for cigars, but I could tell they had a great selection. But oh boy, was I excited about the e-liquid! I didn't want to keep Chris too long so I only sampled a few, but they have great original flavors and a wonderful tasting bar. I could have spent an hour happily testing them all, but luckily, since I was in a hurry, they also have a binder with descriptions of all the different flavors to help narrow down which ones I wanted to taste. The manager was knowledgeable and helpful, and never made me feel like he was rushing me or that I inconvenienced him. I couldn't resist walking out of there with not just a tank, but with some yummy new liquids that are far better than any I've gotten elsewhere, on the east or west coast. As I was leaving I peeped their hours. Turns out they had actually closed an hour before I showed up, which means Chris had probably already done his closing procedures and cash out and was on his way home when he let me in. Anyone who has ever worked in the service industry knows what a pain this must have been for him, so thanks again man! I even tried to tip him for his trouble but he wouldn't let me. Very highly recommend this shop, and I will definitely be stopping in again the next time I'm on the east coast. In the meantime I will be anxiously awaiting for their e-cig products to go online because I am already panicking about what I'll do when I run out.
