I had such a great experience getting permanent eyeliner with Nicky. She is so friendly, knowledgeable, and meticulous. I was initially on the fence about whether to have it done, partially because I wasn't too familiar with the process and was worried since it's so close to my eyes. I narrowed my search to about 2 artists and finally went with Nicky since her style is more of a natural look and shape. The experience: Nicky was very punctual and we always started on time if not earlier. Everything is explained thoroughly and she takes her time to match you to the right shade and shape. She's also very nice and relatable so I felt that I could talk to her for hours! I can feel that I was in safe hands because she's an artist that stands behind her work. The healing process: Right after the session(s), you'll feel a small tingle, but it doesn't hurt (at least to me). The cream she provides helps a lot in the healing process and prevents the area from being too itchy. Gents, if you're hesitating on getting your brows done - just do it! 4yrs ago, I saw Nicky for my initial consultation. She's incredibly detail-oriented, efficient and super knowledgable about the feathering technique. Even though I'm quite particular about my brows, she helped me determine the exact shape and density that would suit me best. (My brows are oddly sparse in the center, but fuller in the mid & tail ends.) A few weeks later, I had my first session. It was surprisingly quick and painless. She used a local anesthetic (lidocaine) to numb my brows, and we chatted while she feathered my brows. She only had to reapply lidocaine once during the session. If anything, you'll notice a slight sting when the needle goes over the mid & tail ends of your brows--similar to the sensation of tweezing your brows. Nicky was also very thorough with post-session care protocol. She provides you with detailed instructions and ointment, which I applied for the full week afterwards. For the first two weeks, the brows appear bolder than you expect, but afterwards, they're perfect! In fact, every time, they last me 18-24mo, which is quite long given that I have oily skin and work out 4-5 times a week (intense sweating can produce oils that fade the brows). It's such a luxury to never have to think about my brows. During the consult, Nicky answered all of my questions and explained in detail what feathering is. Feathering technique creates more natural and lighter strokes, which is exactly what I wanted, so I scheduled my microblading appointment shortly after the consultation. The entire procedure took about 2 hours (numbing, shaping, and microblading), no bleeding at all, and no pain. Although there may be some tingling sensations, but I was able to sleep through it, so it was definitely not painful for me! My brows were darker the first few weeks, the color became lighter and more natural as the brows healed. I received lots of compliments on how natural they look! Nicky also gives you a care package with instruction, ointment, and a razor. Love love love Nicky! Having gotten my eyebrows microbladed multiple times, I like to think I have a pretty good point of view/deep experience in messing with your face. Nicky's technique is very different from microblading but the end goal is somewhat similar - have stroke-like eyebrow tattoos that seem realistic vs. scary sharpie brows (what most people think of when you say "eyebrow tattoo"). First off the logistics - Nicky is incredibly easy to schedule and communicate with. She has online scheduling and is also very responsive in texts. Parking is also a breeze as she works out of a residential area. When you get there Nicky takes the time to explain her process, adjust your brows and make sure you have the right amount of time to get numbed up and comfortable. She then tattoos your brows, re-numbs, and then touches it up to fill in any gaps. The end result is beautiful and very natural, with much less fussiness during healing than microblading. It's also an incredibly COMFY procedure. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so microblading was tolerable, but this felt like I wasn't having anything done at all! You only feel a slight tapping/vibration sensation. Microblading vs feathering: - Feathering is done stroke by stroke with a machine, vs. microblading which has a hand tool with several blades to make many strokes at once - There is considerably more bleeding with microblading and they're constantly "rubbing in" the ink to the wound - It's less painful - Healing time is shorter and the brows are much less stiff while healing and finicky - Feathering fades away vs. microblading tends to discolor with age Overall would totally recommend Nicky and love that she's a woman-owned small business! As someone who is currently in the grind (she's previously worked in tech as well) it was really fun to ask her about her life and the steps she took to start her own thing.
