I had only recently heard of a new steakhouse opening on Dawson St so I headed down to try it out. Wow!! I have to say I was really impressed. The venue has changed a few times over recent years but I am confident that Featherblade will be here for the long haul. Dublin has badly needed a steakhouse without the burden of a fat wallet. I went with as a group of 4 and our meal was great value. We shared the mini fish and crisps and the lamb starter before each ordering the token featherblade steak (only €13). The sides were absolutely delicious, I was personally a huge fan of the wilted spinach and the truffle mac and cheese. I always order my steak medium rare, if not rare and if I have one pet hate about Irish restaurants serving steak it is that they tend to completely overdo it. Well thankfully this cannot be said for Featherblade. My steak was served exactly how I like it! We didnt have desserts and unfortunately the coffee machine was out of action but that didn't stop me leaving a very satisfied customer. I would absolutely recommend the lavender gin and tonic!! I also loved the concept of the litre of wine :) If you are looking for a steak restaurant without all the frills this is definitely the venue for you! Came here for lunch. The place itself looks pretty nice, though I felt the seats were a little too high? And the space is really narrow. Could use some rearrangement. Ordered a prawn starter which cost me €7. Miserable quantity of 5 normal sized prawns. But I must say it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Was really tasty. Didn't take a picture of it but it was basically skewered prawns. Had their feather blade steak that cost €11 and €1.50 more for the sauce. The meat itself was a good cut. But it was served cut to me, and I really hate it when someone cuts my steak. You could see that the steak was not evenly cooked on both sides. You could also see that it was not really medium-rare as expected. And felt so though that it was being sat out for a long period of time. Also I felt it wasn't cooked on the spot as it came out so quickly. It also came with a miserable quantity of a salad though. The sauce itself wasn't too spectacular. Had their brownie which was just baked, I think. It was warm and soft with their caramel sauce. It was pretty good. But I must say it wasn't a bad price and thus a three star. Not many steak places around in Dublin that is affordable. So I'll probably come back here when I feel to slaughter some cows again. However, stay away from the appetisers and desserts. That's it. Stop the presses. Ladies and gents, this is officially my new favourite restaurant. I had tried to go here with some friends a couple times in December, but each time we went they were packed full and there were no seats or reservations available. I'd been dying to try their steak, especially given how reasonably priced it is. So, I ended up getting a reservation for my husband and I for lunch on Christmas Eve. You better believe I snatched that right up. So we arrived, and were taken to our table. We decided to just get a appetizer and main instead of doing the full 3 course menu. I'm usually not too big on eating desserts when we're out. The menu only had two appetizer and two entree options, so we got one of each and shared. I don't remember the name of what we had, but the first dish was essentially deep fried sesame chicken, and the other dish was mixed crab with sauce and some bread. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the appetizers. Despite this, I still give the restaurant 5 stars, and I'll tell you why.... The steak here is absolutely FAN-TAS-TIC. I had the hangar steak, and my husband had the featherblade steak. Each steak was served with chimichurri, whiskey peppercorn, and a bearnaise sauce. I tried a taste of each, and to be honest the steak was better without the sauces. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered (which can sometimes be a challenge when you ask for a rare steak in Dublin). We finished off the meal with an old fashioned for "dessert" and it was the perfect end to a great meal. If you get the chance to eat here, and you love steak, do not turn it down. Thrice cooked, beef dripping chips! Great new Restraunt on Dawson street. Professionally run, excellent front of house and kitchen. We started either the shredded lamb shoulder and fish and crisps, both were excellent, lovely freshly made salsa verde with the fish, land was dressed with slow cooked onions, yoghurt and pomegranate seeds. Lots of attention in both dishes. Ciara had the Skirt, I had the Featherblade , and both were excellent steaks. Nice flavour and texture, well cooked, and very good presentation. My steak came with a herb chilli sauce on the side, which had a good bang of chilli not too hot, with a herby back, lots of fresh thyme. Clearly this is a kitchen that has a wealth of experience. And the chips highlight that, very addictive, floury, crispy, and beefy all at once. Front of house are excellent, after a very mild booking misunderstanding, Jamie, one of the co patrons, greeted us warmly and made sure we were well looked after, all the staff that we met were enthusiastic and knowledgable. It was a great experience. We were talked into a San Sebastien Cheesecake for dessert, and it is well worth leaving some room for, lovely bake with nice sharp fruit. Walked in to a small sized restaurant. The layout seemed a bit cramped but my friend and I were guided to two seats upstairs. The menu was simple, so you got two choices of steaks, a couple sauces, and plenty of side options. Of course, if the restaurant is named after the steak, you get the featherblade steak. We also ordered the sweet potatoes, truffle mac n cheese, and the veggies. LET ME TELL YOU: The highlight of my meal was the SWEET POTATO CHIPS WOW. They were wedge style, crispy on the outside, and melted in your mouth like liquid caramel. Don't get me wrong, the steak was good, the mac n cheese was delicious, but they should change the name of their restaurant to Sweet Potato cause that side shined brighter than the rest of my meal. How can I not give this a five??? €13 steaks (I know, in Dublin right?), the staff are super nice, the seats are comfy thanks to the chunky cushions on the wooden bench type seats. The starters & dessert change weekly so keep an eye on social media!The only constant menu item is their namesake, Featherblade. The menu is simple but don't let that fool you. It can be hard to choose but whatever you choose I think you'll find that the food is delicious. We had a choice of two starters then Featherblade or Flank steak with a number of sides to choose from and three sauces then a choice of two desserts. I chose the sesame crusted salmon with avocado purée and Asian slaw to start. Very tasty, lovely tang from the Asian slaw dressing. I also got to taste some of the crispy lamb - which was like a Bon Bon. V yum. For my main I chose the Featherblade cooked medium rare with Bearnaise sauce. The meat was tender, melt in the mouth yumminess. I liked the Bearnaise because it wasn't over powering. We shared the roasted sweet potato, truffle mac n cheese and there was also an order for the courgette, kale & carrot salad which I didn't try. The mac n cheese... OMG creamy cheesy goodness - you could eat it by the bucketload :) Sweet potato was charred and utterly delicious. I could've eaten far more of them - am sorry we didn't order more! :) Dessert I decided to be "brave" and try the beetroot and lavender panna cotta with lime shortbread. I know that doesn't sound like it should work but it did. It was bloody gorgeous. The tables were a little close but given that we were there early on a Saturday evening that was no way an issue. I had been meaning to try here for ages, and I was wowed. I had the featherblade (which I didn't realise, is specifically a cut of beef). I also had the pepper sauce and roasted sweet potato. The sauce was tasty, the sweet potato was perfectly roasted, and the steak was delicious alone, or with a mix of all the above. Service was great. Big fan of this place! Our group of six ate here earlier this year and left sickly full and oh so happy. They keep it simple with a very small selection of wines that can either be enjoyed by the glass, caraf or bottle. They also offer a handful of cocktails including a mean old fashioned. To start I had the special which was a delicious mushroom arancini. Loved it. For mains we each ordered the signature Featherblade steak or the short rib and decided to share all of the sides. For €13 the steak was quite nice. The real winners for me though were the sides! Everything was yummy but my favourites were the truffle Mac and cheese and the creamed spinach. So good! This place is amazing! I am actually sad that I didn't know of this place earlier! It is a steak restaurant and you can choose between 2 different types of steak.. then you choose your side and your sauce. The steak is priced at 13€ (without sides/sauces) and it is really delicious.. and you won't find a delicious steak anywhere else in the centre for that price. And they do sweet potato fries!! If I find that on the menu, you already got me. Boyfriend ordered Mac and Cheese and they looked really yummy too and he seemed content as well. I also like the interior a lot.. chic but simple.. and I am really a fan of the black tables. We just walked in and were seated and served immediately. The place is quite inconspicuous from the outside.. i've walked by so many times and never noticed it on Dawson Street.. but one day I was in the area and didn't know where to eat, so I checked on yelp for the #1 Restaurant in that area, and that's how I found it - thanks yelp! In December, we tried to make reservations a couple of times and couldn't get a table. I randomly booked a table for two for tonight and viola! Starter - black pudding croquet Main - Hanger + chunky sweet potatoes fries. Ordered a cocktail berry fizz - not great! I have to say we were very happy with our food; the steak was just yum. Ordered medium rare too and the price was even better €66.50 for a starter, two chows, two sides, one sauce, one cocktail and one beer - not bad right? We've been looking forward to this munch for awhile. And on the whole. I wasn't disappointed. Service was prompt and friendly. Music wasn't too loud. The menu simple and delicious. Our steaks were flawless. Our chips (beef chips and sweat potato) chunk, crunchy, salty & addictive. Tip: order medium rare. My one negative, the drink options are limited and don't compliment the savage meat. I'm confused why there would select these. However, we will be going back. Since finding Featherblade a couple months back it instantly became a go-to spot for myself and a couple of friends. We've been hitting it up at least once a month which says a lot about this place, it's easily on the go-to list now. So I was wracking my brain all day trying to think of way to describe eating here, and all I've come up with is.. from the first bite its like being wrapped in a warm blanket after a long day, in a way it just everything you need! So a staple for what I call "The Gang" is a medium rare Featherblade steak along with beef dripping chips. A simple meal some might say, but the flavour is far from it, a perfectly seasoned and cooked steak along with astonishingly delicious chips is what they are truly serving up. Now I'll admit their isn't many places that I'll always splash out for starters & desert but here holds and exception. The dishes change so we've been treated to several different experiences since first finding Featherblade, the team clearly have a love for their craft, combining interesting flavours and as somebody who is always a picky eater "The Gang" is always surprised that I'll be willing to try new dishes when offered at Featherblade. I've faith in what will be served up in front of me. Now with a glowing review, people might ask about price. And eating a three course meal on each visit must break the bank, well I can say it certainly doesn't, I always find myself strolling down Dawson Street after the meal saying 'wow, that's a great price for what we got' even if I already knew the price going in. Great food, great prices, great location! We came in as a group of six on friday night. We decided to split a selection of starters between us (ribs, crispy chicken and scallpos). Crispy chicken was particularly tasty. For mains, we tried both cuts of steak (featherblade and hanger). Both very good - hard to say which one I liked better. The sides were also really good and added a lot of flavour to the meal. The sweet potatoe and spinach were my favourites. Prices are also very reasonable (€13 for steak) and it's location on Dawson street is very central. Featherblade, you sly cow, you. I came here for a spontaneous dinner with a friend and we both took one look at the menu and decided on the Picanha steak for our main with Sweet Potato Fries on the side and a Whiskey Peppercorn dip. The Picanha, a popular cut in Brazil, was their guest steak and seeing as I've a whole lifetime to try their house special steak, I thought I'd give the guest a try. The server explained that the Picanha is already marinated in a garlic and herbs, so the need for a dip wasn't necessary; so I opted out on the extra sauce. When my entree came, the steak was already sliced and served with a side of mixed greens. I loved the mixed greens, but the presentation was a little plain. I understand that the point of Featherblade is to keep it simple, but that doesn't mean your presentation has to be. It was, however, a foreshadowing of what my steak would taste like--plain. The steak wasn't marinated at all. It was cooked to my liking, medium rare, but it was bland and tasteless. I decided to steal some of my friend's dip and it made all the difference! I would highly recommend getting the Whiskey Peppercorn sauce with the steaks. The other downside to that was the fact that the sauce came in small portions, so paying an extra few euros didn't seem reasonable. I didn't expect a gravy boat, but I also didn't expect that sad excuse for a serving. But everything else aside, I think this is a great addition to the community and I would come back to try their Featherblade steak. Right, let me get started by saying this: Please take all these 5 star reviews with a pinch of salt (actually on second thoughts you might want to save that pinch of salt for the steak). What was good? Starters and sides were great. I had pork belly to start and spinach, mac and cheese and sweet potato fries as sides. The steak (only one option on the menu) was bland and tasteless. Even though I asked for it medium, it came out almost well done and likewise for my girlfriend she asked for rare but hers too also came out close to well done. Very poor attention to detail since they have only one steak option on the menu. It shouldn't be too difficult to get right. The interior was nice, the music was really good and the staff very friendly. I do think that they need to come up with a solution to block the cold breeze coming into the restaurant every time the door is opened. It is so unpleasant when trying to have a meal. Don't sit at a table near the door if you want to avoid this. If they improve the taste of their steak (maybe selecting cuts with a bit of fat on them or having other steak options like rib eye, t-bone) I think these guys could be an even bigger hit. They could have had an off-night, but all I'd say is dont go in there expecting to be blown away. There are way better steaks in Dublin, The Butcher Grill in Ranlagh as an example is streets ahead of Featherblade. read more

It was only a matter of time before someone opened a hipster steak joint in Dublin and the food is great! Different to your typical steak place, the fillets here are cheaper and slightly smaller but they don't skimp out on the quality. The meat is seasoned to perfection making every bite as tasty as the last. The chips taste like chargrilled steak crisps which in my opinion is a great thing. Definitely check this place out if in the area, even if it's just to change up your usual fancy steak restaurant. read more

I'm obviously an exception here, seeing all the great reviews but after eating here, I won't be back. I don't like my steak rare. Any sign of it being alive and I run for the hills. So I asked for it medium to well and the waitress put her eyes up to heaven. She then went on to strongly advise my boyfriend that he should have his medium rare and he wanted rare. When it came out on my plate, all the juices from resting the steak were all over the plate. So careless that they didn't wipe it off. The steak wasn't great. It really needed the sauce. Forget those white table cloth stuffy meat restaurants that we have seen millions of. No - this is a place where you bring your it-friends (oh well perhaps a bit of an exaggeration). They have two mains on the menu: Steak and Steak. One had something with BBQ, and we went with the more traditional Featherblade one, skipping starters. The meat came out already cut, which meant it got cold really quickly. Particularly for someone like me who is a slow eater. It was tasty, but probably that was mostly because of the sauces we had: one with whiskey and one traditional bernaiuse. One must say here is that it is very reasonably priced; both food and wine. And I like how you can get a caraff of 500 ml, 750, or 1000 ml. For a table of two that are not too heavy drinkers, 750 was just perfect. And for 18 or so Euro it was a real deal. In addition to the wine, loved the staff. We had this waitress from Canada who was super sweet and helpful, taking pictures of us (it was my friend's b-day), and patiently asking every question we had about the restaurant. Featherblade is such a fantastic spot, it's the perfect addition to Dawson Street. I booked a table on a Tuesday night with no trouble. The menu is small but perfectly put together. We both had steaks and chose the truffel mac and cheese (amazing), creamed spinach (delicious) and some of the best chips I've had in the last few months! We finished the night off with a delicious chocolate tart. All of this and a bottle of wine cost us less than 70 quid! Get in here now! read more

We were able to sit immediately and our food came quickly, which was just what we needed at that point! We had a great experience here - loved the food ESPECIALLY the sides. If anything, I felt the sides were the main star of the meal, and the steak was the back-up dancers. So, let's just talk about the sides. The sweet potato - chunky pieces of sweet potato with a crispy outside. I don't know how they made these taste so amazing...but these were amazing. The beef-dripping chips - need I say more? Amazing. The creamed spinach - yes. The broccolini - came with fried garlic pieces (omg) and was cooked perfectly. So much flavor! The truffle mac n cheese - you'll want to get your own; you can really taste the truffle. the pasta was a bit too cooked for my liking (I like it chewier) but it tasted perfect. For dessert we ordered chocolate hazelnut brownies - these were perfect. I think it's enough to share with someone else. We got the famous featherblade steak - I used to love it - today, it completely lacked flavour. I was so disappointed. The sides were good - I love the spinach and huge sweet potato wedges. The waitress didn't smile once, didn't say a word to us once. This was completely new to me - as service at this place was very good on my previous visits. Now .... we never got our change back. Just finished my meal at Featherblade and it was fabulous! I started with Grilled Haloumi. It was delicious. For the main course I enjoyed the featherblade with Grilled broccoli and truffle Mac n cheese for the sides. The Grilled broccoli had a kick to it, but was quite tasty. I really, really want to like this place. I will be returning and will update my rating depending on future experiences. A new restaurant on the trendy Dublin hipster eats scene, these guys are going about it right. They specialise in pretty much just the one dish, the featherblade steak, the shoulderblade of our bovine friends. The idea is to do one thing...and do it great. And at a great price: steaks are offered 'with leaves' for just €13! Sides can be ordered to suit tastes. I booked a table for two earlier that day and, given this place had just been glowingly reviewed on a well known Dublin-guide website, I was lucky to get a 9pm reservation. Bookings are made via email and I had a good feeling about this place when the informal, jolly email exchange told me this was one of the best times to come and to stay as long as I wanted. Hello Friends :) When we arrive, we wait a few minutes for our table while the previous party pay. We're brought water and shown a drinks menu. The place is very busy, as expected, with a very cool clientele and the odd celebrity spotting. The dark lighting lends a cool, flattering setting. The seating is close together, cosy, and, while not a fan of bench seating, it seems to work here. Our orders are taken quickly and the shared starter of beef croquettes is delicious. The wine on offer is also great; the Cabernet Sauvignon goes perfect with the meal. Unfortunately this is when things start to turn a little. Our mains (featherblades of course) take quite a while to be served; without any questioning from us, the front of house assures us our steaks will be with us shortly. Another 20-30 minutes passed before our meat arrives. Unfortunately the plates are cold and the steaks are warm...ish. They are apparently cooked 'medium rare' (as standard), but a 'medium' would be a more apt description. Personally, it's done perfectly but as stated could definitely do with being served at a hotter temperature. My side of chargrilled broccoli is smoky nice, and my friend's chips are fine. When our plates are collected, my friend points out that the plates had been cold and the steaks could have been hotter. While just intended as some friendly feedback, the waiter quickly apologises and tells us our bill will be adjusted. This is how you do excellent customer service. The total bill came to €44. Unbelievable value in today's extortionate Dublin. Is it the best steak I've had? Nope. But... These guys are only open a week. 5/5 for concept, attitude, value and customer service. They stick to what they know and they do it very well. Although the sauces & sides cost extra, it still stays reasonably under €20 for a steak, a side and a sauce. I ordered the Featherblade steak which was absolute perfection. The service was very laid back and informal, which I enjoyed. The only thing I would say is that dinnertime would probably be very cramped as the tables are quite close together in this relatively small place.
