Hot date with the Hunny - the late December temperature was 75 - and where did we go? When going to and from a one-night campout at Toledo Bend Reservoir, I saw Fausto's Fried Chicken on the west side of the highway. It looked like a choke-and-puke that I enjoy going to: locally owned, very casual, unpretentious, low-priced. It's a 30 minute drive from us, so I suggested it to her, and she said yes. The inside of Fausto's is like what is to be expected from the outside. Enough tables & booths to seat 50, TVs on the wall, plastic plants, old license plates and a Bob's Big Boy sign for decor. It's the kind of place where local celebrity Micah Tyler would feel at home. If you want luxury dining, drive two hours to Houston's Galleria area. For a smidge under $20, we got a thigh & a leg each, she got fries, I got coleslaw, two Cokes. We sat down and got situated - and then someone brought out our dinner one minute later! Now THAT is fast food, and this isn't even a fast food joint. We both enjoyed the chicken. It was hot but not too hot, moist meat, light crunchy skin. Hot sauce bottles are near the drinks, I didn't see them until we were leaving :-( , the chicken would have tasted better with either Tabasco or Texas Pete's. The coleslaw was okay, a little dry. The Hunny wolfed down her fries. Fausto's is a good place to eat, whether for dates, families, sports teams, larger groups, or Micah Tyler. Its casual atmosphere is a good fit for the little Piney Woods town of Buna. It's likely a good fit for you too. Fausto's: making fried chicken great again. read more

Not the same chicken since the new owners took over. Not the same burgers either. The chicken used to have the right amount of spice to it, not now. The burgers also used to be a lot bigger too! We used to get three burgers and the family fries for take out, but the last time they were the size of something you'd get from Micky D's. Just a little disappointed from what it used to be. read more

I heard they changed owners a couple of months back. I heard it is the Millers who own the food trailer on the corner across from the Shell station. While the Corn Dogs and Boudain balls at Millers are very good, I can't say the same for Fausto's now. What used to be rated as a very good Fried chicken and Burger place has changed and I don't know why but we ordered 4 Burgers for Lunch just the other day and we were all surprised when we got our Burgers out of the sack and unwrapped them! They were very small!!! No where near what they once were. I'd compare them to something you'd get from McDonald's. Very small and not near what it was a few months ago. We haven't had the chicken yet, but will give it a try in the near future, but have read several comments on the chicken. Like being dry, and little or no seasoning to it, and a couple of other things. We were very disappointed in how they have changed the burgers. Point being, if you take over a very successful establishment, why would you change something that works??? I have seen the sign saying they have a salad bar. I haven't seen it, but have heard from a couple of people that it is disappointing and barely makes salad bar status. I do know I'm going to have to go in and just see for myself if all of these things are true or not. But if things have changed like the burgers were changed, I will update this review too. But the burgers are a perfect example of why you don't fix things that aren't broken. Not sure if the inside ambience has changed, but will find out soon. read more

Fried chicken tastes old, greasy dry and lacking flavor. Grilled chicken strips have no flavor. Tastes like frozen food cooked in the microwave. Mashed potatoes are instant. Cream gravy tastes like instant packet mix with no real cream. Prices are crazy high. Have tried this place twice, hoping they would get it together. They don't know the first thing about fried chicken. We will be driving to Kirbyville for fried chicken tomorrow. Well worth the trip. read more

I stopped by on the way back home from a Sunday drive in the country. I saw the solid reviews and thought I'd get some fried chicken to-go for my family at home. What a delight! The crust was light and crispy, and the meat was tender and juicy. It was not greasy at all. The fried okra was also quite good with a nice crunch. The mashed potatoes and cream gravy were full of flavor. I was glad to hear they're open on Sundays and Mondays now. It definitely was worth the drive from Silsbee. read more

Small town, big taste!! Came in to Buna for Friday Night Football and had a nice dinner before the game! Hubby enjoyed the fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Teenage son enjoyed a juicy bacon cheeseburger! I had a grilled chicken baked potato. Grilled chicken had a little cartilage but other than that, i rally enjoyed the potato. This is honestly my favorite chicken place! I been going to eat here once a week for the last couple years! I always get the Small Chicken Breast Strip. The fries are always the best. The chicken is yummy but sometimes it can be a bit hard, rarely though. Only a few times that has happened to me. The service is good especially since the staff is always friendly. This establishment also hired part time students from the nearby school, so even the younger ones are involved. You can eat inside or get take out. The inside is spacey for a small town and ordering isn't complicated at all! If you happen to be nearby i would recommend stopping by! read more

Delicious food served fresh and hot by friendly down home staff. Stopped in for lunch while on a road-trip. Staff snd regulars made me feel welcome. Very clean, brightly lit, and nicely decorated place. Big portions of tasty food and fresh tea left me full and content. read more

Definitely has kept it's honor after removing old managers and returning to a much more updated feel; as well as the food, while remaining the only fried chicken place in Buna my father has been a loyal and upfront about current quality since before I can even remember, at least for the past fifteen years, and they ought to give a loyal customer discount, for the man just cannot stay away, haha! Yet, even being a vegan, I do adore me some fried potatoes and their okra is always delicious, so I try not to let the main menu curve my appetite, especially given we've had many a pleasant memory from childhood to adulthood, and I CAN vouch, as growing up a carnivore, their fried chicken is honestly really good, even from memory of about seven to eight years ago; juicy, never raw, and the crust I was always offered by my parents, as it WAS my favorite part, and now I am just laughing at myself at such heartfelt humor and honesty! Overall, they care about their customers when they are not overly busy and it's a pretty laid back environment with a television, and if it's still available, a whole private dining room for parties, etc. Amenities include natural lighting, a men's AND women's restroom, both tables and booths, and a clear view of the kitchen from the counter. Love this place. Down home. Good food. Very very very nice people.walked in door right at 8pm. Didn't know they were closed at 8. They didn't say a word. Not a bad glance or anything. We were just passing though and decided to stop. It's like a small town diner. The chicken was very good, cooked perfectly with a lightly spiced flour breading. The baked potato was also good, but the toppings were low quality: (margarine not butter, poor sour cream, and fake bacon bits). Onion rings had a thicker batter that was not very good. I absolutely love this friendly hometown restraunt! I have never tried anything on their menu that I didn't like. The fact that there are several younger employees like High School age is also pretty cool because that makes me think they are open to giving people an opportunity to prove themselves. About a year ago I did receive an order that wasn't up to their normal standards but I called and they politely told me to come back by and they would fix it. And they did! I was VERY impressed!! You won't like this place if you aren't a buna local. I made a large order while in town. The owner from what I gathered, a lady ignored me when u went to pick up my order. I said hello? Excuse me? She kept making another order and acted annoyed I was waiting. Then she recognized a local behind me and carried a conversation with a smile for them. Chicken was good but Popeyes is better.
