    Seco a la limena
    Michael J.

Nice new place in downtown Fairfax, near TJ Maxx. I visited for a quick lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the Seco a la Limena. I loved it! Wow, it was the perfect meal for a chilly day. I ate every bite of it. I also had their carrot cake for dessert. The cake has a layer of pineapple in the middle and some dulce de leche. It was yummy. I definitely plan to visit again, so I can try some of the other dishes.

French toast eggs and orange juice

Service was excellent and the aesthetic of the place was something i really enjoyed. I food was amazing i got french toast with eggs and columbian coffee, the french toast was very moist and delicious and orange juice, the eggs were soft and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend if you eat out for sunday

    Grilled chicken and beer.

They had really really good service, and some fancy food. My brother and I got the croquetas. It spectacular- forgot to get a picture tho. We got the plantains and they were so toasty and custardy and sweet omgggg. And we topped it off with the grilled chicken side. Juicy AF.

    Margarita

Happy to see this new restaurant open up as Coyote Grill has closed its doors. Always on the lookout for relaxing and pleasant eateries to dine out in the Fairfax area and Fauna did not disappoint! Most recently, I tried their breakfast menu where I indulged in their Calentao Paisa with a cup of coffee. Great meal! Portions were generous with the rice and beans but not overwhelming. The arepa gave a nice chewy texture that mixed well with the rest of the ingredients, and the plantains, although sweet, were not overwhelming. If you come during Happy Hour too, it's great value. Knocked back an iced margarita with some crunchy chicken tacos (serviceable but filling) that served as a nice send-off to start the weekend off right! Friendly staff, relaxed ambiance, and great food. I hope Fauna becomes a mainstay in the Northern Virginia area and excited to explore more of their menu in the near future!

The purple Ube…read moreice cream and green coconutty Pandan ice cream twist is our favorite and love topping it off with Oreo crumbles or sprinkles, and let's not forget the Ube wafers and Taikayi waffle cones! The flavors rotate seasonally with different combo twist flavors and there's now a Mini 6 oz option as well as the 9 oz classic option with unlimited toppings! There are interesting seasonal flavors that are fun to try: - Honey Dew & Guava Cheesecake Twist - The summer flavor and sweetness of the honey dew complemented the exotic guava cheesecake flavor. - Peach Honey Goat Cheese - My favorite summer! The unique flavor is complex with a bit sweetness and a touch of savory. You can taste all of the ingredients. - Sakura: The pink cherry spring flavor wasn't that sweet and a bit tangy. - Kyoto Taro Cheesecake: A great combo of Taro and Matcha Cheesecake twist that's not too sweet and flavorful Ube Cheesecake flavor - A bit bland with a subtle cheesecake flavor. - Watermelon Basil - Fun flavor to try and tastes like a sour watermelon jollyrancher. It pairs well with the Peach Honey Goat Cheese flavor. - Black Sesame - Grey, savory flavor with a hint of bitterness. - Cookies and Cream flavor is a bit bland. - Classic Ube & Pandan Twist: I always resort back to my favorite default sweet and coconutty flavor. The Taikayi waffle cones are delicious. As the stuffed Taikyai is quite decadent, getting it hollow without any filling is the best way to go with the ice cream. Any type of filling with the ice cream becomes overload of sweetness. The Wicked Pandan Float (from the glass cooler) was delicious with layers of green coconut Pandan cheesecake custard pudding on a bed of Oreo Crumbs drizzled with salted caramel dulche leche. All of the flavors pair well together. I wasn't a fan of the Ube Dulce Leche or the Ube Oreo Floater. The Ube custard was a bit bland and didn't like the jelly topping. Skip the floats in the cooler and head straight to order the ice cream! Sign-up with the app and you can score deals and discounts via text and get notified of new flavors and when some flavors retire. My kids and I enjoyed love coming here and sharing a fun sundae! We came here a dozen times during the summer. There's both indoor and outdoor seating.

Thing's to consider about…read morethe service, if you order via Kiosk you will either get your order in 20 or 40 minutes depending on if the workers are talking in the back not realizing you put an order in. Talk to the people that work there for orders to make sure the one you want isn't running out and to ask if it's being made fresh. The workers don't ask you anything just make the food when they finally do get around to making it. The food is good but expensive for what it is, the service is a 1/100 if that is possible. Food is 6/10 could be better, honestly go to an asian market and buy ice cream there it taste better and is cheaper. Plus you don't have to feel insulted waiting nearly an hour for an order when you're the only one in the restaurant and ordered via Kiosk. The kiosk is there for convenience to disregard customer to worker interaction making it easy to just gloss over orders until they feel a type of urgency when the restaurant floods with people. ONLY THEN will you get your order faster. Upon finding out they were talking to a manager in the back disappointed me more because a good manager would say look we have an order ticket handle this first then we can continue talking but I had to wait for their conversation to end before they even began working on my order. Do i recommend this place If you order via kiosk and don't mind waiting half an hour go for it If you like mediocre mid overhyped food go for it If you value your time and money go to an asian grocery store and buy their ice cream.

One note is that the hojicha latte at full sweetness was way too sweet for me, so I would recommend getting 50% sweetness instead. My friend ordered the hojicha float with pistachio soft serve and rice mochi, which was delicious and surprisingly filling enough to share. The mango syrup added a nice fruity sweetness. The rice mochi was quite plain, chewy, and a bit too large. It didn't really hold onto the ice cream well. Wife and I sat at the Chef's Counter for a truly wonderful meal last night. The menu is exceptional, five courses, several with two options, and the progression was just perfect. We really loved all of the dishes, but for sure the ravioli with wild asparagus and ramps is one I will remember for a long time. The octopus was also a memorable dish, and the poussin was complex, layer after layer of flavor and the salt level was so good...just perfect food, perfectly executed. Oh, and shout out to the owner's dad, who is in his 90s and makes the bread, a rich sourdough, served warm, that has a 50 year old starter at its essence. Yum. We did the wine pairings and I def recommend. Some really good wines, curated from small vineyards globally, matched perfectly and well presented. The sommelier nailed it. We also just loved the service. Nice touches pre arrival, they are expecting you when you arrive and there's a lovely personal touch and welcoming feel. The ambience is warm, and you can hear and talk and it does feel like you're at a dinner party with friends and family. Finally, shout out to the chefs and servers. Knowledgable, conversational, and charming. We really enjoyed the Chef's Counter and the entire experience. Kudos to Chef Jon Krinn and his family for creating this masterpiece of a restaurant. It is Michelin star worthy, and we cannot wait to go back.

I mean shame on them because they deserve some seriously high praise. And honestly, they pulled out all the stops for their recent New Years Eve dining experience - I'm talking caviar, white truffle, A5 wagyu, a custom cocktail (because they know I like gin and yuzu) and a painfully decadent dessert - What a way to send out 2025! I mean, honestly, the meal was exquisite and so perfectly executed. Each dish is crafted with a passion and care for food that absolutely shines. I mean the Foie Gras (sp??) - I don't even really like the stuff, put the way they sauteed it, put it on top of some sort of savory cake and slathered it with this balsamic gastrique - it was like bacon and pancakes smothered in maple syrup just amplified to 100. Bottom line: I would eat this every day (and amplify my weight by 100 too). The snow crab, I don't know if it's the care in selecting the product or the techniques used to prepare it (probably both ), but they packed so much crab flavor into that dish! And the dark chocolate cheesecake, it was magic that can make something so dark, so bold, so rich feel so light when you are eating it. This was just one specific meal here, but I am surprised and delighted every time we get the privilege to dine at Elyse. It's not just the food, it's the atmosphere and the attention of the staff. They remember details from your previous visits, any special notes from your reservation and really tailor the experience to you, making it all that much more special on your special night out

They're best known for their bingsoo, or Korean shaved ice, which is perfectly fluffy and delightful, with a sweet, milky flavor that acts as a great canvas for all their toppings. You can't go wrong with of their bingsoo options, but they do run a little bit large and are meant for 2-3 people to share. If you're in the mood for something smaller, they do have a delightful selection of other desserts, chief among which is their rice paper waffle. This glorious confection is a super light, crispy waffle made entirely out of rice paper (which, as a side bonus, also means it's gluten-free). It's slightly chewy on the inside but generally incredibly crunchy and airy. It comes topped with a lovely rice-based syrup that tastes a bit savory -- almost malty -- and black sesame. You can also just get a scoop of their rich, creamy ice cream (instead of the shaved ice that it normally comes on top of), and it will be topped with a generous helping of red bean paste, injeolmi powder, sliced almonds, and corn flakes. The combination of flavors and textures levels up this humble little scoop to a full-scale dessert with sweet, savory, and nutty notes. Aside from their sweet treats, Soricha also has a bunch of fun drinks. They have a long menu of expertly brewed artisan teas, or you can also cool down with one of their refreshing fruit mixes. The omija berry refresher is particularly lovely, with a great balance of tart and sweet flavors that make it the perfect summertime drink. Beyond the food, the service is also super friendly and quick, and the cafe is gorgeously decorated with chill, relaxing ambient music. It's a delightful place to hang out with a friend to chat, finish some work, or do a bit of reading. I will note, however, that it is quite expensive -- the bingsoo is about $20, and the teas are a minimum of $7. It's so worth it every time, but it's definitely more of an occasional treat than an everyday indulgence.
