Maybe the best meal I've had in VDG so far. Heat in the summer can be a little uncomfortable though haha. Fried striped bass was excellent. Amazing environment. I'm sad I didn't get pictures of the outside. We had the chefs special which was a 4 course meal of wonderfully delicious treats. Ceviche, fresh oysters, roasted cabbage and salad, scallops, rib eye, duck, a tamal covered in delicious mole, and so much more. The total came out to about $100 per person not including the two glasses of wine I purchased. Waiters were amazing, knowledgeable and friendly and we even got to meet the chef. 11/10 experience. Another place off the Valle bucket list! Love the open kitchen, set up, decoration and overall vibe of Fauna. Farm to table feel bc of the plants they have outside as well as the seating. So happy I made this the last stop as I wanted to savor my dish and not worry that I had to leave room for the next place (some places make you eat and drink) as I had already ate a bit at another place. I ordered the waygu sopes and a cocktail called Feel the beets that did have beets in it. The waygu sopes were so GOOD! Five came on the plate and at first glance I thought it would be no problem to eat them all as that was all I ordered. Wrong. The sopes come with a little bit of beans and shredded like waygu. Both flavors of the beans and waygu complimented each other and really made the sope taste delicious. Add in their amazing green salsa and it threw me over the moon. Yes that good. I don't like hyping something up bc then it may fall flat when someone else tries it, but these sopes deserve the hype. As for the cocktail. I knew it could have been a miss and for me this one was a miss. I don't remember the other ingredients besides beets (the menu does not list them), but next time I will have to pass on this cocktail. It wasn't the beets alone that had a ... different taste. There was some sort of bitters in there to make it taste the way it (just off). Either way this place is a must for good food and other drinks. Vibes are super chill and place is clean. We decided to take a day trip to Valle de Guadalupe to dine here for my birthday since we heard such great things. I was surprised to see how busy it was on a Tuesday afternoon. The area is very safe and secure- there is a guard at the gate to check your temperature before you can drive in. Once parked, there is an attendant in the lot as well. It was pretty hot out that day, but luckily there were fans blowing above our tables. We were given complimentary chips and green salsa when we sat down. I really like the light and airy texture of these chips! We decided to get the 6 course wine pairing meal and each course came out 2 items at a time. For the first set, we had abalone and ceviche. So far, everything was interesting and delicious. For the second set, we had a salad and octopus dish, along with some fresh handmade tortillas. I could see the guy making them across the way. These dishes were light and refreshing! I made a few octopus tacos that were delightful. I was getting pretty full by now, but we were on our last set of courses. This time, we were given some kind of charred veggie and lamb dish with more tortillas. I really liked this meaty dish a lot- it was very flavorful. For dessert, they brought out a small cake for me along with our last sweet offering and wine pairing. The dessert course was simple, but fascinating. There was a crunchy layer on top of some nicely scooped gelato. I enjoyed both desserts! Overall, I had a fantastic time here and highly recommend this winery if you're heading to the Valle. read more

I was looking forward to Fauna. However l, my experience here was incredibly underwhelming. Most of the items on the menu lack protein. There are tons of veggie/vegan options but for the prices that they charge I was expecting their menu to have more dishes with protein The worst part was communal sitting. I hated every second of it. We were forced to sit next and across other people we didn't know which made the experience awkward . But the chicken was over cooked, sea food was good, but most dishes tasted like they came off a line cooks table and not a high end restaurant. I cannot say enough amazing things about Fauna! The drive into the restaurant is absolutely stunning and you automatically feel as if you are in for an incredible experience. We had a large group of 13 so we were presented with a choice of 4 or 7 courses which made sense for such a large group. We chose the 4 courses, but because each course came with at least 2 items, it was more like 7-8 courses! The food was excellent and each dish was executed in a flawless manor. I love vegetables, but I have never had more delicious and innovative vegetables than at Fauna. We all still rave about the broccoli and burnt cabbage! The vast majority of us do not consume red meat or pork and our dietary restrictions were carefully noted and our dishes were prepared accordingly. What I appreciated the most was that we all had the same dishes that were just prepared differently, where at some restaurants, they just give you an entirely different dish. Every single dish was as fire as their salsas and the dessert had everyone licking their plates despite the fact that we were all stuffed. The staff was so patient with us and when we come back later on this spring, we will definitely be back for round two. read more

The only thing we were willing to risk liking was the ceviche, which had a gorgeous presentation, an ugly look after mixed, but was very good. The cocktails were excellent. The other two choices someone like us would consider was the tomahawk, but that would take 45 minutes. Before you go do your homework. Study the menu and the food photos. Every meal we had was delicious and unique with fresh ingredients. We had eight people in our party and we all enjoyed our entrees and at the end we were so full. This place is insane. The locale is beautiful and stunning, but the food steals the show. I'll keep this short and sweet: when people say this is one of, if not the best, meals they've had in their lives they are not exaggerating. There is so much care and attention to detail put into each dish. The squid ink scallops were wonderful - treat yourself to a generous spoonful from a tortilla made on-site. We also had the duck, which was perfectly cooked. The crispy skin combined masterfully with the squash. Simply harmonious. Last off, we ended up ordering literally one of each dessert. Beautiful restaurant in the middle of Valle Guadalupe. The light is dim and the decor is on point, they even have a fully decorated Christmas tree in the dining area, next to the bar. I went with a group of 10 so we had a pre-fixed menu. I can't complain, everything that was brought out was amazing and the service was impeccable. The best food I've ever had!! Such a cool atmosphere / family table setting. We sat outside (inside was too crowded for us with a 1 year old) and did the Fauna feast. Whoever said on Yelp that this was not enough food was so wrong! The server was nice and allowed us to pick a few things off the main menu we really wanted, to include in the feast. I think our feast for two ended up with 15 different dishes. It was so fun to try everything. Our favorite was definitely an off menu item- the Ahi tuna over a butter sauce. So so good. The vegetable dishes were great as well, we really liked the charred cabbage. We also loved the oysters we had as an appetizer. We also had amazing cocktails, a mezcal grapefruit one, gin based one (kinda like a gin whisky sour) and a aperitif one (called paper plane). All were so good- definitely think the gin one was the best though! If you are on the fence about this place, just do it! You won't regret it. read more

A wonderful experience to share with others such as great friends or an opportunity to dine with complete strangers. Especially since you get cozy with the communal siting. They have long tables where everyone sits, it can get a little crowded but fun since it's different. During winter it is cold, so bundle up. I loved the dinner outside but we ended up going indoors because some of us were cold even with heaters. It felt like I visited the restaurant twice since it was a different experience in doors. Inside was warm, much closer to others, loud and busy with so much going on. Personally I enjoyed it because I could see the kitchen, the food was fantastic, the laughs, the conversation going on around me just great energy all around. But I could see how it could be a little much for some. We had the chefs feast ( I'm not sure the actual name of it) but it was delicious and we were stuffed with so many dishes coming out. 5 -6 courses including dessert, each course came with 3 dishes for each course. It was delicious, great balance of flavors brought together. The staff was very attentive, friendly and welcoming from the guard at the gate to the, car tenet to the dinner service. You are in great hands with this team taking care of you. We drove a Tesla down for this visit and we thought we asked and they had a Tesla charger we where fortunate to be able to use while we ate. It worked out perfectly for us. Definitely coming back to eat and stay at the hotel on the property. Amazing time. read more

Truly one of the best dining experiences you can have, not just in Valle, not just in Mexico, but PERIOD. This was my third visit to Fauna/Bruma and while I apologize for not reviewing it in the past, I'm glad that I can speak from experience in that EVERY time we visit the experience is simply stunning. We have been in the middle of winter, in summer, and in spring and it is always comfortable, inviting, and delicious. They offer a 4 course tasting menu and a 6 course tasting menu. You will have the usual debate of if you REALLY need 6 courses and it truly is a dilemma. It always becomes a "when in rome" scenario and all three times our group has opted for the 6 course. Keep in mind that your entire party must order the same number of courses. They are also EXTREMELY accommodating to dietary preferences. One member of our group had celiac disease so those dishes needed 0 gluten. We also had a pescatarian and a vegetarian. All dishes that could be shared by all are brought out family style. For those with restrictions they would get an individual portion of whatever would be similar and I am always shocked at the accuracy. Its these little things that separate Fauna. The individual plates are curated and thoughtful. My wife and friends never felt like an after thought just cuz they needed a different preparation. Its not like if youre gluten free you'll just get salad or if youre vegetarian youre only going to get steamed vegetables. They truly put thought into every dish and it is all delicious. The 6 course is a metric ton of food. By the end of course 2 you will be feeling full but PUSH THROUGH IT. More deliciousness is to come. If I attempted to describe each dish, all 19 of them, I would be hard pressed to fit them all in this Yelp box of limitations. It also wouldn't do that much good, considering they change their menu based on what is available, either in their garden, or what was caught that morning. Fauna is an experience like few others. We did a prix fixe menu that covered most, but not all of their items up for offer. The food came, and came, and kept coming. At one point we were afraid to have more than a single bite lest we be too sick and full to try what was next. Look at the pictures, read the reviews, and you'll get a good idea of what to expect. Getting there: From the Rosarito area it's about a 70 minute drive. Drive to Ensenada, turn left right before getting into the city, and you're there in another 20 minutes or less. The drive is beautiful, and it's easy to see that wonderful things are going on there. Get there fast, before everyone else discovers and ruins the vibe. Fauna is reason enough to make the trip. Dress: For lunch, they state smart casual, but there were people in shorts and t-shirts who weren't turned away. Vibe: eco everything, sustainability abounding. From materials to lighting and air flow, they are doing things the right way. Whether you sit in or out, you will love this place. The meal: lots of courses, and I mean lots, with collections of dishes paired with white, rose, and red. The blue corn courses were paired with a silver tequila, and desserts with a Mexican coffee liqueur drink. The pairings are optional, but I do suggest doing that if you can. Cost: Our bill for five people, including tax and 20% tip, was $700. This was a bargain for the food and the experience. Others have coined this place the French Laundry of Baja. Not as fancy, but just as interesting, and far less formal. My favorite thing? The uni atop seaweed and miso. Just amazing. The fire roasted cabbage, yes cabbage, was a close second. This restaurant is an absolute must when traveling to the wine country of Mexico, Valle de Guadalupe. It's been #1 restaurant in Mexico last several years! I have been here twice and this place blows my mind! Embarrassingly my Spanish is not up to par but the servers are more than happy to accommodate with English menus and they will explain each of the course being brought out. The first time we went we had ordered a la carte since it was just the two of us celebrating; the second time we came back in a party of 6 and requested the "family tasting" prix-fixe at our guide's suggestion. OMG we lost count of all the dishes that came through. I felt like Belle of Beauty and the Beast in the "Be Our Guest" segment. The portions were generous and flavors so scrumptious and out of this world. There were lots of fresh seafood, and some juicy tender steak, to my recollection. But honestly I think their vegetable dishes really stand out. The broccoli dish is strangely my favorite one because it is so delicious and innovative way to bring out smoky, sweet and bitter flavors from broccoli. The charred romaine lettuce topped with pickled crudités and mustard seeds is excellent too. By the time desserts showed up we were stuffed beyond oblivion. Presentation is rustic, and you get to sit in communal tables with some distancing from other guests (not 6 feet as I would have preferred). But the wine and hospitality industry in Baja California takes COVID seriously, so sanitize your hands and mask up! This place is a lovely way to end your evening in Valle, and you can't beat their pricing. A must-visit on your trip to Valle de Guadalupe. The restaurant is set up for a communal dining experience, with long tables and people sitting across from you. It's nice- you can strike up conversations with other visitors. The food is innovative. We heard raving reviews for Fauna so we did the prix fixe. If you like vegetable dishes, Fauna is the place for you. We had a massive lettuce dish (not my favorite) and a delicious broccoli dish. The seafood dishes were great, with the octopus being my favorite. Steak was delicious, served medium-rare. If you're a chocolate lover, you'll love the dessert! We got two desserts-a cocoa truffle (very strong) and ice cream with a chocolate cracker in between (amazing). Unfortunately, I did not love the drinks. I got the wine pairing, and the wine was incredible strong. It overpowered the taste of the food. We also were seated next to a group that was causing a scene-very drunk and they broke more than 6 glasses. Waiters were very kind-apologized and quietly offered to seat us elsewhere. read more

Every dish came out beautiful and tasty. Pairing each dish with the wine tasting made the entire meal. Total was about $120 for each person. The price was on the high side, however, it was worth it. This is a restaurant located inside the Bruma winery. Whenever you visit Valle de Guadalupe, be sure to make a reservation at Fauna. You won't regret it. We went a la carte, but there is a tasting menu option, which a lot of diners were enjoying. This was definitely worth the drive from San Diego. The best restaurant you will ever go to. I prefer to go for lunch so you can see everything on the property, but they have a very cool dinner setting that mixes intimate and hip, really really well. We always get the feast, it is an incredible amount of food and each dish is better than the last. Perfect balances of flavors and textures, everything pops and the ingredients are all top shelf. My last visit my car was crashed into down in the parking lot while we were eating. The manager Diego handled everything for me, I didn't have to do anything. It took a long time to sort out, as these things do, but we were well taken care of during the wait. A very professional and courteous team is running this restaurant. I sat at a communal table. I'll never have enough confidence to wear hats like these women. I didn't know if the bathroom was gender neutral, but there were only women in there when I had to pee, so I assumed it was just the women's bathroom. I got the tasting menu, way too much food. It hurt to keep eating, but I had to taste it all. The sweetbreads were the second to last course and it was just mean. Such a rich dish right near the end. It was a tasty gut punch. The oysters, the scallops, and lettuce with Mackerel were some amazing highlights. There was a great view with many succulents surrounding the rolling hills. read more
