This place is BEAUTIFUL and pricey so make sure you come ready to spend. The food was so delicious, they brought food out for us to share. The way it works is they send out plates and plates of food for everyone to share, so we didn't order our own plate of food. We ate everything from octopus to duck and at the end they give you a little bowl of sorbet that looks like an egg. They had really good cocktails! I drank the tiki. It was a beautiful experience. We had the chefs choice, 8 plates and a dessert. Can't remember all the details as they were many but it was something like this: Large brócoli with a green sauce at the bottom. Ceviche, fish. Very nice dressing to it, best I've ever had. Like a blue triangle empanada (but not an empanada) with sweet potato pure inside and pure beans at the bottom and a Chile oil drizzled. While romaine lettuce with Furikake and other dressings. Pork belly with a citrus sauce and radishes. Lamb cooked for 8 hours and shredded. Extra. Small cut of a large white fish. Desert was ice cream with pieces drizzled cracked deliciousness. This place was one of the best meals I have had. Many courses that all felt unique. The staff was lovely, wines were great. They were so accommodating with our friend who didn't eat seafood- they brought out a totally different dish that was well prepared each time there was seafood. Honestly, the veggies are the stars- I have never had such well prepared and delicious lettuce and broccoli. The pace of food coming out was a bit fast but they slowed it down at the end. My Queen and I celebrated our anniversary there this past weekend. Had heard really good things. It wasn't just good. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! Have had the good fortune to have eaten at really good restaurants throughout the world. After eating, no, experiencing, an evening at Fauna, we were literally awestruck. Made my list of Top 5 dining experiences of all time. We loved the oysters, the abalone, the fresh broccoli in this life-changing green creamy sauce, the octopus, and the lamb. The mixologist was fire, Naked & Famous and Dirty Martini's all night. The service was top shelf. Cannot wait to come back to the Valle and do this all over again, and of course try new dishes. I can't say enough about Fauna. It is a must do, dining experience. It is everything I could ask for in capping off a night in the Valle. It will be on my list every time I'm in town. Architecture and ambiance | The restaurant sits up the hill from Bruma Winery. I went in the evening and the lighting on the walk up was memorable with nice fireplaces for the outdoor tables. It is lively, but fairly small and built into a hillside. There are four areas with several tables in each. The main dining room is where the action is at with views to the kitchen and bar. Just outside the dining room is a covered patio with additional tables. There are additional tables that extend with umbrellas beyond that area. There is also a small bar in the back that is the most secluded, but has tall tables and feels more casual. The back area should be used as a bar, but they do serve dinner out there when they are at full capacity, which is most of the time. Food and drink | The food was unique, satisfying and the highlight of the experience. We had a chance to watch the chef walk around making sure quality was up to par. The ingredients are fairly simple, but the recipes and preparation are what makes it what it is. For example, I eat all kinds of food and a lettuce taco was my favorite on the night. Pescatarian: As in most of Valle de Guadalupe, it is not hard to find seafood. The scallops were my second favorite dish. Vegetarian: Vegetable dishes are highlighted and celebrated throughout the menu. Parking and access | There is a security guard at the entrance to Bruma winery which will confirm your reservation. They will send you up the dirt roads past the winery with free parking in front of the restaurant. At night it can be tricky to get out, as there are not lights. Just remember the few turns that you took to get in or follow along with Google Maps satellite view. Service | This is one of those restaurants where the staff are all working as one. If you get up to use the restroom, you will likely find your napkin folded on the way back. One waiter will fill water as they walk by and 10 seconds later someone will clear a random dish you just finished. It's organized chaos at it's best. We were sat in the back bar, which felt away from the restaurant. The hostess found a table for us in the main room within 20 minutes of us arriving on a busy night. All around impressed with the staff. read more

What an experience. One of the most beautiful dining experiences in my life. Solid views (fine before sunset!), great food, a thoughtful waiter who helped us out with vegan options and threw in some items on the house. We got all the vegan items on the menu (about 8) and each item was lovely. The quinoa salad, cucumber dish, flour tortillas, habanero sauce cannot be missed. Wonderful experience, would highly recommend. Wagyu sopes appetizer was the best. Margaritas delicious. Cold broccoli was smoky and unique. Wagyu entree with chili sauce was divine. Ambiance is so rustic yet beautiful in its simplicity. Decor is very creative. Only communal style seating available. We already ate lunch that day and lunch #2 so we couldn't go all out here :( But I wish I knew that this was not the place to use as lunch #3 or afternoon snack. This place should have been one of our main meal places. I will come back here to do their course meal. The scallop dish is insane. I have never had it served that way. The sauce? The seasoning? Idk but the way it was prepared...so much umami...but not overbearing..and the bite was just right...I never thought I would let cooked scallop compete with scallop in a nigiri... Also it wasn't on the menu, but the crudo, the tuna on the sauce. I didn't this was a thing, but another way to serve raw fish is more with an olive oil, citrus base. Our server kindly explained these things to us. I'm sad I didn't get to experience the fullness of fauna, but from these two dishes, I saw a glimpse of their creativity and their artistry. read more

Food was disappointing. We got the Festín Fauna $1527 pesos ($150USD) per person and it was a major let down. Main points the excess use of lemon on most dishes took away from the other flavors. The brisket and fish had too much salt. The 5 course breakdown is below. 1st course: was the only thing that was good. It included some seafood dishes I will include pictures. The cucumber salad a strong lemon flavor that masked any other flavors. 2nd course: Octopus over oil and it included pickled potatoes and olives. Those flavors did not go well together. The broccoli had some dressing that just made the flavor too sour. 3rd course: Romain lettuce with too much lemon and pieces of green tomato. Too much lemon on everything. The pork was very tasty. The scallops were mixed with octopus ink and lemon. I know that it is seafood but not all seafood needs that much lemon. Salty course: 4th course: fish that was cooked enough too eat but too soft to really get any taste out of it. The skin was cooked over too much salt that it made the dish horrible. The brisket was tender but had too much salt for it to be any good. The coliflour was good. 5th course was a palette cleanser it was okay. The main dessert was like a deconstructed Ferrero Rocher and not very good. Overall the food was either too salty or had too much lemon. All dishes should NOT have that much lemon. The meal itself was about $150 USD and not worth your money. Take your pictures at the cool tree and leave. Don't get a drink just drive away. read more

Had their feast menu, which was wayyyyy too much food. Everything was pretty good but they use so much citrus and acid in their food that my tongue hurt after. The dessert at the end was very much needed to counter the sour. We were so excited to experience Fauna after all the recommendations we received. We booked a month in advance and were told the only time slot that could accommodate our large party (12) was 8:30pm. We happily accepted. When we got seated it was so loud it was impossible to hear each other talk. We realized we would just have to converse with the people sitting directly next to us or across. The food started arriving and we were immediately impressed. The broccoli and ceviche were outstanding! Things started to go down hill from here. They started taking plates/drinks before we were finished to make room for the next courses. That continued for the rest of our dinner. So much so we decided to nickname our dinner "Guarding our food and drinks" They were also putting 3 different dishes down per course and expecting us to eat them within a short amount of time. I understand we were probably the last seating, and they wanted to wrap things up for the night, but if you're going for a Michelin star, then rushing is a big no-no! The food was very good, but nothing beat out the broccoli and the ceviche honestly. Service was good but not great. My recommendation: book earlier times if possible! read more

If the Michelin Guide ever comes to Valle de Guadalupe, Fauna would definitely get a star, maybe even two. Reminds me of a Mexican version of Blue Hill at Stone Barns. But instead of $500 a person, it is $125. The property is stunning. Really terrific architecture (same guy that did Vena Cava winery), great views of the surrounding vineyards, butterflies fluttering through the air. Seriously magical. I had just finished the wine tasting at the neighboring Bruma, and while the facility was beautiful, I thought the wines were just okay. I was nervous that the food at Fauna was going to be similar, style over substance. Boy was I wrong. We went with the Fauna Feast, which was described as a six course. It is more like a five course (the sixth course is a palate cleanser, which just doesn't count). But for each course, you get two or three dishes. We had: First course of mackerel ceviche, oysters with smoked tomato water, clams with some spicy sauce, and abalone aguachile. Second course of smoked broccoli with a broccoli puree and a grilled octopus with olives and potatoes. Third course of charred lettuce and scallops with squid ink, served with handmade blue corn and flour tortillas. Fourth course of duck breast with grilled papaya, charred cauliflower with mole pipian, and lamb shank, with more blue corn tortillas. Palate cleanser of some sorbet. Fifth course of honey semifreddo and chocolate panna cotta with peanut butter ice cream and toffee. And a few cocktails to drink (like I said, I was not a huge fan of the house wine). There was the Maria Sabina, which was a mezcal drink with orange peel syrup and served in a mint julep cup. And there was a lady with a gin and tonic cart with some interesting gins and lemongrass and kefir lime leaf garnish. The food was impressive. I was especially wowed by the vegetable dishes. Who thought that charred lettuce would make an epic taco? We had eaten at Deckman's the night before and were thoroughly impressed. But Fauna was better by every measure. Beautiful place and the food was amazing. Not a big fan of the lack of privacy, the gentleman who was sitting across was extremely loud and the lady sitting next to me was too close to me. When she went to the restroom, I placed one planter vertically to give myself some space from her arm. It's a cool idea to have many customers sharing a table, but when they're invasive and loud, not so much. I'll definitely go back if we are seated somewhere else because the food is super good. They had two different kinds of menus. Maria Sabina, the spicy mezcal was so refreshing. Our waiter Jonathan was such a very helpful and hard worker young gentleman. I think the poster Bryan, clearly doesn't understand Mexican regional food and its differences. This is by far the best 7 course fixed meal I have ever had in my life. Just when I thought I had tasted heaven, the chef would send in a new and even more amazing course. Yes, lots of lemon but it's exactly what the seafood dishes need to balance things out. First and foremost - if you're going to Valle de Guadalupe, this is the place to eat. In the past 3 weeks, I've had the experiential meal twice. First for lunch and the second for dinner, with a wine/mezcal pairing. Both meals were exceptional, lunch left us full for the day. Dinner was for the most part, entirely unique from the lunch meal just 3 weeks earlier. I highly recommend scheduling the wine tour at their on-site winery, Bruma, for an hour before your meal. Another thing to note that I read on here and saw first hand - if you order off the main menu, the portions for everything are well sized and perfect for group sharing. Even ordering 3 items to share for 2 people, will likely leave you with plenty of leftovers. read more

What a wonderful place to visit. Bruma winery is absolutely beautiful with some really great wines. I highly recommend the tasting and also the tour so that you can see how beautiful the winery and the Cava are. To make your experience even better is this restaurant. The food is absolutely wonderful, the Decour is eclectic and fun and different. The menu was wonderful. They have a full bar and also a wonderful wine list with not only their wines but other wines in the region. The music is cool and the ladies making tortillas fresh outside is an amazing thing to witness but also to taste. read more
