I'd been working long hours and didn't have the energy to organize and put things away in the evenings or on weekends. As a result, things started to pile up, I couldn't find things, and ended up buying more to replace things I couldn't find. Ahh! So, a week before I am supposed to move, I hired Genius Organizing (specifically Julia) to help me organize/sort through my belongings/pack for my move. She was fantastic and upbeat, and absolutely non-judgmental! We went through a LOT of stuff during our first session of four hours, but ultimately there was just too much to do. Thankfully, Julia is available on Thursday for another session to help me complete my packing the night before my move. The session was very productive and it was go, go, go, non-stop--I really enjoyed working with Julia and I'm definitely starting to feel good about my inventory of things. We've thrown our 4-5 big garbage bags full of items and I am preparing to donate 2 additional enormous bags full of clothes! Amazing. I'm excited for my 2nd session, where we will go through more unopened boxes and suitcases from my previous move (tsk tsk..). Not only did she help organize and de-clutter my tiny studio, she was patient with me and my limitations and seemed to revel in the challenge of my space and my inclination for collecting clutter. She had creative solutions and was very determined to make my space what I fantasized it could be. In the end, it's 1000 times better than it was and WAY better than I could have made it on my own. She even made the process fun and practically painless for me.

I'm not much of a pack rat, so didn't imagine I had much to get rid of. After reviewing the apt. we decided the time would actually be best spent cleaning out my closet. She explained that once she helps people sort and get rid of some stuff they usually don't even need to spend money on storage containers and extra furniture. In one hour and 40 minutes we did what would have taken me 2 weeks to do on my own. My closet looks amazing and she had great ideas for storage using what I already had. I also had bags and bags of stuff to donate - which I did that same day - while still motivated. We used the remainder of the time to plot out the next steps in my reorganization for me to do on my own. I've now used the tactics she taught me to reorganize a dresser and vanity. I plan to have her back when I redecorate next month, so she can help me figure out how to best utilize my storage space. I recommend her very highly. The mental space she will save you is well worth the cost. coming home to an organized space is a truly amazing feeling, and leaves me free to focus on things I'd rather be doing. Also, she's sweet, fun, and funny. Emily has a good sense of style, and was able to help me make the call on a few articles of clothing. We had the structure of a custom couch made by a woodworker, so no cushions. My wife went to J&Y and had a terrific experience. She explained what she wanted, they gave her many options with details on how different fabrics work, made beautiful cushions and to avoid waste used remaining fabric to cover 4 pillows at a very low price (I don't remember exactly but it was a lot cheaper than I expected). The work was done quickly enough, professionally. We've had this here for several years now and it's still in really good condition... aside from the stain unfortunately, but that's what kids are for I guess. You gotta keep in mind that this is a dying craft and these people are disappearing. If you're looking for cheap stuff you'll find it at any of the big stores but it won't be as good as anything you'll get from J&Y. Like a good craftsperson, they'll charge more but you get more. I highly recommend this small local business. I myself will make sure to give them my business whenever I can. PS. I also swung by there one time to ask if they would cut some foam for a Halloween costume I was making for my kid (yes, the same one who made the stain) and they quickly and happily took care of it in about 2 minutes.
