It was a rainy day in September and where live there is NEVER any parking. However Emily was determined to make our appointment no matter what the circumstances. When I opened the door this petite woman beamed with a smile and a sigh of relief that she found parking right in front of my building. Right away we got to work. I showed her the trouble areas in my apartment and coined it "organized mess" because of how neatly the pile was compacted in it's designated areas. We decided to focus on the filing cabinet in my alcove since it was the biggest and most complex task to handle. We didn't get to finish the project but within the 2hour visit she was able to show me a system of minimizing the paper clutter and a better way of labeling the folders. Not to mention she was very patient while my then 2 yr. old daughter who consistently tried to get our attention with helping us through the process. She even gave very helpful potty training tips to encourage my daughter's progress (no more pull-ups---yaaay)!! To be honest, after Emily left it took me awhile to re-motivate myself to finish the job (5 months to be exact). But with this past New Year looming over my head I didn't want to start the year on the wrong foot. I went back to the system she had showed me months earlier and surprisingly finished the project in a day and half. I used one of the shredding companies she referred me to and got rid of all the extra paper that picks up your stuff (for a fee) in a mobile shredding truck. I hired Emily on a whim to help me de-clutter my yard and house. I say that with a bit of sarcasm as I was extremely overwhelmed by this enormous project and really didn't believe it could be done. I had fallen victim to inclement weather over the years, and ultimately a roof collapse, everything of more than 28 years, 4 people's stuff had to be moved immediately in order to renovate my home. After bringing everything back from storage what I saw as a daunting task was seen as a welcomed challenge in the eyes of Emily; she assessed the job on day one and put me to ease in minutes, she wasted no time getting started. Over the weeks using her skillful techniques the stacks of boxes, bags, etc decreased immensely, she swiftly went through some of the most soiled and mixed bag of things I myself would have never been able to do on my own. Emily is a powerhouse of 10 in one very sweet, kind person who is always willing to lend an empathic ear, her warm approach sets her apart. Wow - I don't know where to start. I originally called in Ms. Matles for consultation on how to better organize bills, invoices, payment receipts, and other files that don't get touched more than once. We run a combined 27 LLC's and Corporations out of one office, and by the conclusion of the second week, we had never been more organized in the 30 year history of the company. You don't know how unorganized you are until you recognize the potential of how organized you COULD be. While in bed recovering from surgery, Emily began to clean out my closet. I was in the habit of blindly tossing everything into the existing heap. Emily took everything out, categorized it all, and held up item after item to either donate, toss, or keep. She helped me part with my shredded T-shirts, clothing I hadn't worn in years, bags, fat wooden hangers and my jewelry. She designed the interior and I had shelves built for shoes, bags, and neat storage boxes. I have kept it up and treated myself to a whole new wardrobe. So, it's been on my resolution list to minimize and declutter for the last...oh, I dunno...three years. Emily to the rescue. She came in and totally re-organized my kitchen, going through expired cans of food that had been there since the Reagan administration. (Real quote: "Wow, this is from the year I graduated from high school." I know that I was very self consciousness about letting a stranger see the mess I had accumulated over the year's, otherwise known as my front walk in closet. When I open my closet doors that serve as a linen and toiletry closet, things would fall out and down. Emily told me to empty the closet and put like things together. She then came in and actually made sense of what what needed to be in the front and within arms reach.
