I am an inherited patient. This practice originally belonged to Dr. Parekh, who was my neighbor as well as my physician. He was an unusually compassionate and competent old school doctor. He passed away not long after his wife died untimely. So no matter who replaced him. it would have been large shows to fill. Having said this, I think Fatema is wonderful. She would be my daughter's age (had I had a daughter) so I will just refer to her by her first name rather than the formal salutation. She does, however, have the Gravitas, of a someone much older - Being 75 I have had the pleasure(!) of seeing a few too many doctors, I think her manners are wonderful unlike some person called David has written here. Being a professor myself, I have encountered a few know-it-alls, after they have spent all the time basically telling you their encyclopedic knowledge of everything, the proper answer to anything they further ask (like testing what you know), indeed they should just Google it, or shall I say ChatGPT it? I am well read, if I am diagnosed with something, i do read about it but all the time I am aware that my reading and intimacy with WebMD will not make me the equivalent of my physician. My father, a physician, was fond of saying, no treatments work unless you have faith in your doctor.
I know her well by now, I cannot remember how many colonoscopies I have had by now, I am on a yearly rotation (no, 15 minutes of the Michael Jackson favorite is not worth hugging the toilet hours at a time the evening before. Fatema has always provided with me fine, knowledgeable treatment, and her office crew has always been more than courteous. I questioned her judgment only once, when she briefly decided to join one of those groups where a multitude of physicians practiced together, yes they largely herded patients like cattle. Doubtless sharing staff and equipment and having one roof makes you more money and you don't see all that many physicians with solo practice any more. It did not take Fatema all that long to realize her folly, she is back practicing on her own, in the same physical office as before (perhaps she anticipated this and never vacated her lease - just wanted to dip her toes being an American style "industrial" doctor - glad she learned) - but this also shows that she is not in it solely for making money.
