WORST customer service. We ordered carry out. We we arrived home we found that one of the sandwiches was wrong. Should be an easy fix. We called to let them know and asked if they would exchange the sandwich. The guy argued with me. They asked me what I had ordered, if I was sure that's what I had ordered, then they wanted me to check the receipt and make sure it said that on the receipt as well. When I asked why it mattered what it said on the receipt the guy said he's sorry it's not his responsibility to check sandwiches anyway. I heard him yell to the cooks that this was the third order tonight that was wrong. He came back to the phone and asked me again if I was sure that I had ordered properly. Always love the food, beer and atmosphere at fat dan's. Great during nicer weather especially with their expansion at this location. Today was a little odd at the end. Our server got pulled onto working the bar with no heads up to us. Had to wait awhile to get out tab - felt like we got forgotten / overlooked. Yup! If this place isn't the cat's pajamas, I don't know what is! I came here super pregnant and all dressed up on an unseasonably warm December night and sat at the bar. To anyone that's been to Fat Dan's you can imagine the hilarity behind this scenario. I was greeted with kindness and amazing attentive service, which I was not expecting, as I was feeling like such a misfit, I was surprised how comfortable I felt at the establishment. Now what you care about--- the Food! Goodness was it delicious- the tots, the fries, the spicy burger, the BLT. Every bite was amazing. No, I did not eat all of this myself, my husband was permitted a nibble or two as well. Today is the first time in three years that I missed Chicago. Fat Dan's brought back the memories of what Italian beef is supposed to taste like. From the moment you walk into Fat Dan's you know you have walked in to a place that is special. If you can't enjoy this place then I will say that you are probably clueless. I'll be taking friends to Fat Dan's when they visit as well as I will frequent Fat Dan's to pick up some wings. The smoked meatloaf sandwich is a treat and you can only get it on Weds. Food is amazing, specifically the wings. The flavors are very well done and unique for the city. The beer list is ever changing and match the food very well. One complaint is that the decor and the bathrooms need updated, as this isn't a dive bar location and should not be treated as such. Received it well done. Pretty flavorless patty. Toppings were colorful and flavorful. The IPA cheese, bacon, blue cheese crumble fries (appetizer) were barely edible. Not sure how you manage to serve fries that are burned on the outside and not cooked on the inside. Even the bacon on top was burned. The cheese on top looks akin to canned cat food. Pulling up to my car, I was thinking, I should just go across the street to one of my favorite places.. Got out of the car and the immediate smell of BBQ sold me, I need to try this place... Place is nice, clean and workers are nice.. We got there early as we had kids with us, so we were the only ones in the joint.. Got the Italian beef sandwich, wet and it was very good.. Buddy got the Chicago dog, wings and fries and they all did look good.. What a great evening at this restaurant. We had a large group and our waitress was super helpful and on top of making sure everyone had their needs met. I was not super hungry and ordered a corn dog. It was delicious! Everyone in our group seemed to love their meals also. Several Fat Dan burgers, a Reuben, Italian beef and more were all enjoyed. I did try the fries and they were also great and fresh. One word of advice, a small fry will feed two or more. Great place for groups, kids, dates and more. Parking is a little bit of a challenge in Broad Ripple, but you are always able to find something. read more

You can expect no frills bar food- Italian beef, hand cut fries, Chicago-style hot dogs, and tater tots. All their food comes out on paper- no plates, no glass, no frills. You WILL need extra napkins, no matter what you order. But better than the food is the ambiance here. Dan has created a little slice of Chicago three hours south of the real city, and it's just a joy to be here for a Cubs or Blackhawks game. Chicago sports paraphernalia lines the walls, and the beauty of Fat Dan's is that there are only two tv's in the entire tiny but comfortable place. For those looking for a Buffalo Wild Wings experience with 50 tv screens and a thousand games, this isn't your spot. But if you want a casual, loving (yes, loving) place, Fat Dan's is it. Extra points for the fact that they play "Go Cubs Go" between innings of Cubs games, and when the Cubs clinched the NLDS, Dan gave everyone Old Style on the house. Was SUPER excited to try this place . The people we were visiting ( we are from out of state ) grew up in this town and said the wings are amazing. We came in and sat at the bar. And the young lady behind the bar was incredibly nasty. Since we never had been here before and we weren't quite sure what kind of beer they had and needed a minute to figure out what we wanted. Well she didn't like that and stomped away. Our friend got his beer and honestly we were just gonna leave when he was finished because I have never encountered such a nasty bartender in my life. However the young lady that grew up in this area talked us into staying and trying out your incredible wings, lucky for you she has a sweet spot for your food- she was right it is incredible. This is one of our favorite restaurants in SoBro. We love to watch summer baseball games at the bar. Dan is always friendly and chatting with customers. I frequently crave the food! The french fries are incredible. Everything has the perfect, most satisfying amount of grease. The atmosphere feels perfectly "Chicago" and always has a balanced tap-list. Don't Miss This One! Best in town. Someone half my age brought me here for the first time a few days ago. I probably would have kept going by this place because I lean away from eating bread (sandwiches) very often. OMG am I in trouble! We ordered our sandwiches, Rueben & BBQ brisket. I said, I have always 'loved' tater tots but since our kids are gone and my husband isn't a fan I haven't had any for years. They're the perfect bite with my favorite crunch factor on the outside and soft on the inside. So I thought, OK that's like sandwich & fries. Well, when it all came out, it was a huge amount of beautiful heart attack food with the aroma waffling all around us! ---how about making those tots more incredible by making them really dirty, right down, low down, totally dirty. -with a big pile of pulled pork, a bowl of cheese sauce, some hot sauce and chopped green onions. I had no idea what was going to happen. My arm and mouth became my uncontrollable enemy and I was defeated with the first bite. -one right after another! My fork almost started to draw a line in the middle although it was still far away. Then on to the sandwiches to avoid embarrassment from our totally glutinous behavior. We decided to divide them to share. I took a bite of each and they were both incredible! The Rueben was very flavorful & tender, and the brisket was delicious with very tender meat mixed with big bites of crusty beefiness and juicy fatty pieces! This experience was like Big little's in Chicago when I went running out with my face in my hands screaming, OMG what have I done? I was rather disappointed in this well known and heavily raved about little deli off College. My boyfriend and I were seeking a hearty lunch to celebrate his new promotion and Fat Dan's seemed to fit the bill as they boasted bbq, large, meaty sandwhiches, and a plethora of deep fried goodies. We ordered our meal and eagerly awaited our food. Our waitress was very sweet and was kind enough to fetch our drinks quickly (Mine a New Day South Cider and his a local Blonde brew). We had beat the lunch hour rush and were able to enjoy the open scenery and quiet. When our food arrived however, we both were sadly disappointed. My meal, a turkey burger with lettuce, avacado, a dijon sauce, and red onion, tasted heavily of peanut oil and did not contain any avacado. We had ordered a large batch of fries to share, which contained mostly batter with very little potatoe. My boyfriends burger also tasted slightly off and had wilted lettuce. While the staff was friendly and the environment pleasant, I can't say I will return for the food. Not one to can a business on the first try, I would be open to returning and trying more of their menu. read more

I have been to the Fat Dan's in Indy numerous times and have never had any problems. There were only two servers working, which is fine, but as soon as we walked in we were told that food would take at least forty minutes. It was seat yourself, but the waitresses made us move our own tables together. It was not that busy so I am not sure why the kitchen was so backed up. Service was slow and when asked what was on tap, our waitress told us to "go up to the bar and look." Beer was flat and overpriced. Food was good, but took over forty five minutes to come out. Our waitress rarely stopped by to refill drinks and messed up our checks as well. Fairly disappointed when it comes to the service of this establishment. read more

Located next to Twenty Tap on College, this seems to be a true "Chicago" style deli. By that I mean the food is sloppy, fattening and messy to eat. It is also pretty good. My friend and I sat outside for our dinner and I had the Italian Beef. They give you the option of it being dry, dipped or on the side. I picked dry, I don't like my sandies dipped, ever. It was a generous serving of beef in the sandwich and I did enjoy it. I didn't enjoy the mess and lack of plates. The food was served "deli" style, being wrapped in paper and brought to the table. All I can say is, there is a reason that "deli's" like this aren't all over the place and that is you need a rain coat and gloves to eat there. I want my food in me, not on me. At the very least they could supply something other than the weak plastic utensils they have. I would have really enjoyed the food if I could have eaten it like a human. I did really enjoy the french fries and would definitely recommend them. Yummy. All in all, I can't be totally unbiased as I am a St Louis Cardinals fan and the place is covered in Chicago Cubs stuff. Had the standard burger and fries. Fries were too greasy and irregular for optimal consumption pleasure (too thinly cut to scoop up ketchup), but it was nice to see they were cut by hand. The food is really greasy which makes it perfect after a night of heavy drinking. Burger was good but I wish I had gone for a spicier option. Fat Dan's! Oh how I've been longing to try your greasy, heart-clogging goodness. I dove in head first ordering the North Ave. FatBurger teriyaki glazed with Swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Big, delicious, and just the right amount of sloppy. I also decided to order a huge sack of tater tots because why on earth not? It was great. I did a carryout order, and by the time I made it to my location, the tater tots were essentially leaking through the sack. Yum. I got a side of blue cheese and went to town. They have amazing looking food--Chicago dogs (an addiction of mine), reubens, BBQ, brats, chicken sandwiches, and many burgers. It's a greasy heaven everyone should try out.
