When ever I'm in the Herkimer area I'm eating at Fat Cats. Fisherman's platter is a plentiful feast. I also get the fish fry dinner (not at the same time of course). And purchase seafood by the pound and let them cook it for you. And don't forget to get a milkshake or ice cream cone as well. read more

I've heard nothing but good reviews about this place for some time now. Large portion sizes and great prices. All I can say is wow! Delicious! Prices are very very fair and the food was phenomenal. Cooked perfectly and the food was brought right out of the kitchen. The fryer oil was very fresh and there wasn't a "fish taste" mixed in with the French fries or different foods which leads me to believe foods are prepared separately or in specific fryers Over ordered but have leftovers for dinner now. You won't leave hungry that's for sure. Great atmosphere and very clean on the inside. Wait staff was top notch and atmosphere is child friendly. I would consider this better seafood then some restaurants I have been to in mystic Connecticut based off a great price for seafood, atmosphere, positive attitude of employees and more so the quality of the food. Well as always Fat Cats has the Best Food ever. Look at the pictures of the amazing Haddock I'm posting. Not 1 bite was left. The Chicken fingers were amazing. Wife was to full so we brought some home and the were great. The one problem was we were to full for their amazing ice cream. They don't have the name Fat Cats for nothing. All their serving are big. Reasonable prices and worth the 130 mile round trip we make to go there. read more

We had the fish and chips, scallop platter, rice pudding, and shrimp basket. For $45; it would have been better spent going across the street to Hannaford and buying frozen. 1) Do they ever change the oil in the fryer? 2) Shrimp was so tiny you needed a jeweler's eye loop to find them. 3) cheap bay scallops. 4) Haddock pieces are the size of a McDonald's filet of fish sandwich. read more

Good dinners, great prices! A nice option is you can purchase the seafood raw and take it home to cook, or you can purchase fully cooked and prepared dinners. It's typically fried seafood but it has a nice breading rather than a heavy batter. We had fried clams, shrimp and haddock - all were very good. Fries and onion rings are tasty. The restaurant isn't much more than some tables and chairs, so if you're looking for "atmosphere" you'll have to look elsewhere but you'll also be paying much more than you will here. The staff is very friendly, even on Christmas Eve when the place was a madhouse. All in all, you won't leave hungry and you'll find yourself wanting to stop by again and again! read more

Not really a fan. Not saying the food isn't good, it's just not my taste. I have had the fish fry and the batter tasted odd to me. I'm wondering if the oil needed changing? Have also had just scallops, once. Ate one or 2 of the half pound and the rest went into the garbage. Not sure if they were old or if they were the kind packed in water. Did not have that great fresh sweet scallop flavor that I was expecting. Disappointing. I will, however, even after 2 failed attempts, order again some time. But if it's like the first 2 tries, I will never return. Three strikes and they're out... But on the positive side, the prices are descent, the place seems clean and the service is good. read more

I came here with my boyfriend and it is one of the best places that serves ice cream. Not only that they serve ice cream but it's also a seafood restaurant! My boyfriend loves seafood and I love love love ice cream so it's perfect for us! I got the Cotten candy soft serve and it tastes amazing. I love Fat Cats. I got my husband and my son a fish fry dinner and my husband said it was the best he has ever had. The coating on the fish was light and crispy and the fish was juicy and moist. Their homemade clam chowder is to die for. It is the best I have ever had. I can't wait for the season to get colder just so I can have it. Their clam dinner is great too. I just wish they would make their own fired clams instead of getting frozen ones. There was some nice size clams but I had a lot of small ones. Wish there was a little more clams that came with the dinner. The prices are extremely reasonable there. The portions are awesome too. On Fridays there is standing room only. Another of the area's hidden gems you don't know what to think at first but upon entering the awesome smell for the fish fry's is heavenly. For a "fish market" this place smells great and the specialty fry is beyond compare: Cooked with the flaky texture you're looking for... and you can have it light or dark to taste... just right! The taste is fresh as can be, clean and light. While simple and fast, the shop is also meticulously clean and pleasant so it's great to eat-in or take out. Always worth a visit.
