Wow! I am really impressed with this chain. Frequently visiting St. Laurent mall, I walked the food…read morecourt over and over again, and just wanted something different, and "healthier". I nervously popped into Poulet Rouge, intimidated by the menu and all the choices and received the friendliest service. I ordered a mini bowl with lettuce as a base. They offer plant based chicken, and opted for that, going with the shisha garlic flavour. The mini comes with a choice of 1 sauce and 3 toppings. I went with the chipotle sauce which had some nice kick to it. I topped it with cucumber, feta and tzatziki. The bowl was a perfect size for a quick light dinner. The plant based chicken was smokey and it was grilled to order. They have a couple seats to dine in away from the food court. Service was super quick and they were so friendly when I asked for recommendations. (sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I will next time I am there, because its now a new fave)

Poulet Rouge has arrived in Ottawa! It is a chain from Montreal that specializes in build your own…read morechicken bowls, salads and wraps. Their chicken is Halal. You can get everything without chicken too if you are a vegetarian/vegan, but they do not have alternate proteins. This location is in the St Laurent Shopping Centre (the other location in Ottawa is at the Rideau Centre). It's in the food court, but they actually have their own private seating, although you can bring your food to the main food court seating as well. I've had Poulet Rouge before, in Montreal, and at the Rideau Centre location as well. I really like the food at this chain. This visit I got the build your own Rouge Bowl ($10.99). You get to choose a chicken flavour (Hercules/lemon, Shisha/garlic, Fusion/BBQ or Volcano/spicy), a base (brown rice or bulgur, you can upgrade to quinoa for an additional cost), a dressing, and 7 toppings. I got the Hercules chicken with brown rice, no dressing, spinach, tomatoes, beets, bell peppers, black beans, cheese, and tzatziki (which counts as a topping and not a dressing). The food here is consistent with the location at Rideau. I feel like they might be a bit more generous with the meats in Montreal, but it's been a while since I've been there, so it might be they've shrunk portions everywhere. The chicken portion is still good, and my bowl was still very tasty. Service was friendly and the place looks clean. Poulet Rouge is definitely a welcomed addition to the St. Laurent food court :)

Growing up in Toronto, I have eaten my fair share of Popeye's Chicken. I left Toronto many moons…read moreago, and of course Popeye's more or else "just arrived" in Ottawa, so it had been a long time since I had some Popeye's Chicken. I was sad to see that "dirty rice" (rice mixed with ground beef and spices) has been removed from the menu (although I've been told this change happened many years ago) and replaced with "rice and beans." Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the food. I ordered the 16 pieces fried chicken family combo for takeout ($45.99). The combo comes with 3 large sides and 8 biscuits. However, I had a coupon for an additional free side, so I got 4 sides in total. For my sides I got onion rings, Cajun fries, macaroni & cheese, and rice & beans. I asked for half-spicy and half-mild, so 8 pieces of each. I specifically asked for at least 2 mild drumsticks because my little niece loves drumsticks and she cannot eat spicy food. Well, when I got to my brother's place with the food, I discovered that I got zero mild drumsticks. All the mild pieces were thighs and breasts, and all the spicy pieces were drumsticks and wings. I really think that the default should be an even distribution of types of pieces when you order half-half, and if a customer makes a specific request, if you are able to honour it, you should (and if you are not, then let the customer know at the time of ordering. When I ordered, the cashier said "no problem."). I did like that they separated the spicy and mild pieces with some waxed paper. The spicy pieces have more of a reddish tinge than the mild pieces. All this being said, the chicken was really good. It was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. I was just as I remembered it from my youth. The onion rings were huge with a lot of batter. They are whole onion rings, thickly sliced (not re-formed onion like onion rings at Burger King - or as I like to call the onion rings at Burger King: the Pringles of onion rings, lol). The batter was spiced and had the tiniest little bit of a kick. The batter was too thick for my tastes, but the onion rings were overall good. The Cajun fries were lightly battered with Cajun seasoning. They were thin shoestring fries - my favourite cut. I loved them. The mac & cheese was ok. It was really cheesy and wet. Tasted like processed cheese to me - like the cheese that you get out of a pump for nachos at movie theatres and 7-Elevens. The rice and beans were also ok. They put the beans at the bottom and then the rice on top. I found the bean sauce a little too runny. I would have liked it if the sauce was thickened a bit more. The rice was good. It was nice and fluffy, although a little too salty for my liking. I'm not a huge biscuit fan, so I didn't have any. Service was nice and polite. I even had someone (I think it was the manager, as she was dressed differently from everyone else, but I'm not sure) ask me what my order number was when she noticed that I had been waiting for quite sometime. My order was larger than most, so I completely understand that people who came after me got their food before me. The restaurant is really new, so it's clean. It's where the Arby's used to be (so sad that there's only 1 Arby's left in Ottawa now, but I digress...) and next to Menchie's. There's free parking in the lot attached, but the lot is not huge. It's hard to access if you are going eastbound on Innes (I had to overshoot and then make a u-turn), so better to approach it going westbound. I like Popeye's - and I don't think it's just the nostalgia talking :)

They've ran out of food the past three times we've come back... Including chicken…read more Service is terrible and slow. And it's a 50/50 gamble on whether our orders have come out right. We've tried to give them a chance after all the screw ups, but this is ridiculous.. won't be going back.

I'm a fan of Mary Brown's Chicken, so was excited to see this new location open up in Orleans,…read morewhere my parents and my brother's family live. We ordered food from there for lunch one day. No one in my family (other than my husband and I) had had Mary Brown's Chicken before so we got a variety of items to try. We got some mild fried chicken, some spicy fried chicken, potato wedges, onion rings, gravy, coleslaw, and macaroni and cheese salad. We also got a box of 5 chicken tenders with fries for my little nieces to share, but I wasn't able to get a picture because they were hungry, lol ;) It was my first time having the spicy fried chicken and it looked to me like they just sprinkle spices on top of the regular fried chicken after frying. It was ok, but the spices were definitely not well distributed. It's also not all that spicy. The chicken at Mary Brown's is similar in style to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), as opposed to Popeye's Chicken. It's less salty than KFC I find. The potato wedge were a bit bland, but tasted great with the gravy poured on top, lol. They are lightly battered. The onion rings were crispy and great. I had some leftover fries from my nieces. The fries aren't battered like the wedges. They were good as well. They are just regular-cut fries, not shoestring, but not beefsteak/thick cut. The macaroni and cheese salad was too rich and creamy for my tastes, but I guess that's how it's supposed to be. I didn't try the coleslaw because I generally don't like coleslaw and especially not creamy coleslaw. The gravy was nice and thick and full of chicken flavour. My dad's assessment was "better than KFC, but not as good as Popeye's" lol. I don't know if I agree. I really like Mary Brown's and I like that it's a Canadian chain (it's from out East). Besides, I think all fried chicken places can coexist, since they all offer something a bit different :) This Mary Brown's Chicken is in the Orleans Gardens Shopping Centre (which is really a plaza, not an enclosed shopping centre). There's lots of free parking in the plaza.

The Steak Tacos are my absolute fav! I order my steak medium-rare then I add queso fresco, avocado, fire roasted salsa, crema and pickled onions. Did I mention that all toppings are free?! That's right - even cheese and avocado! That's pretty rare to find these days! Also worth mentioning are the Beer Battered Fish Tacos at La Ha. My hubby always orders them because he loves them so much. They're made perfectly every single time. We've also tried their Agua de Sandía and Horchata - both were excellent! If you're in the mood for always fresh and always delicious tacos, you need to check out this place! Note: La Ha Tacos also recently introduced new menu items like their Nachos, Taco Salad and Queso Cheese in case you prefer something other than Tacos.

This food truck is located in a car wash parking lot in Orleans, with not a whole lot of parking. We arrived during lunch, around 11:50. Big mistake, I guess? There were maybe 5 people in line, so we decided to wait it out. It could not be that long right? The hubby waited in line while I waited in the car. It took him about 10 minutes to place his order. I believe it was somewhere around 12:09 where he came back to the car and said it would probably be around 15-20 minutes for the food. I contemplated him driving us back home and then him heading back for the food but we decided to just wait it out in case it was ready earlier than expected. I've never been to this place before, and did not do much research beforehand, but if I knew this place is known for the long wait times, I most likely would have skipped coming here, or just ordered online, which a lot of people were doing. That may have caused a back log of orders. Online orders, telephone orders and in person orders for a small food truck, with 3 people working....that is a lot of pressure, and it kind of screws over the customers placing orders in person. Fast forward to a screaming toddler, a person waiting in their car eyeing me for our parking spot (for 20 minutes...eyeroll), and a very slow food truck, we FINALLY got our tacos at 12:45pm. On to the food...everything is made in house, from the chips to the toppings. All platters come with 3 tacos, side of chips and salsa. You are able to add additional free toppings to your tacos like salsa, cabbage, avocado, ect. I am kicking myself in the butt for not doing so. I ordered the fish tacos, and the hubby ordered the pork. He noted that his pork was pretty dry and wish he added salsa to his tacos. Although, he did say they were good (but again, not wait 45 minutes good). My fish tacos were pretty flavorful, but I ran into the same problem with them being dry. The first taco I found the fish on the drier and chewier side. The other two were fine. It came topped with a crema sauce so that helped a bit.The chips were really good, and addicting. Their salsa that came with the chips was awesome and a pretty nice portion. The tacos itself are about 3 bites. The tacos were good, but waiting 45 minutes at a food truck is inexcusable, and left a sour taste in my mouth. I would not rush back, but this place is not a write off, because the tacos were good. Do yourself a favor and call in your order.
