They did a great job! And what a location, between Minton's Jewelers and that wonton store. Temptations all OVER the place.

5 stars for the customer service and the quality & price. No need to restate that here. Just trust…read moreme when I tell you it's the best framing shop in Albemarle County... heck maybe even the state of Virginia. Maybe the eastern seaboard. Upon further reflection, it would not be a stretch to posit it might could be the best frame shop in North America. And, if you are willing to come that far with me, then it stands to reason that it must be the best frame shop on the planet because, well, It's common knowledge and a well accepted fact that everything is better in the USA - even beer nowadays... So welcome to the best little frame shop in the Milky Way galaxy. And now that's out of the way, let's talk about the family side of the business. John, the original owner was a peach of a man. Always looking up from whatever he was doing to offer his full attention and guidance. He was so good that, after a few projects, I'd just call him and tell him what I needed and what room it was for and he'd take it from there. When I learned that John had passed away unexpectedly, I knew Charlottesville had lost a true artisan and friend. What I didn't know was that his son Billy is every bit as good (if not a wee bit better). Same great spirit, same great work, and a pure delight to be around. Ok stop reading... take your stuff there. You will be glad you did.

For weeks, months, nay, years, I was in search of reasonably priced 11x17 frames for my 11x17…read moreposters. I went to store after store but was coldheartedly rejected by the generic granddaughters holding sunflowers and puppies. But then, oh my goodness, suddenly the frames appeared... in Joel's office. Sadly they belonged to Joel and were holding Joel's posters so I couldn't just take the money and run. Also they were kind of high up on the wall and I don't think I could reach. Joel is tall. "Where oh where did you get those frames, Joel??" I asked. "Why, Michaels, of course," he answered, adding, "Duh!" No, he didn't really say "duh." He's very polite. So off I biked to Michaels, located conveniently in the nearby Barracks Road Shopping Center. Barracks Road is a great place to go to observe our dependence on foreign oil. You will see bumper stickers such as "My other car is also here at Barracks Road, because my family believes carpooling is un-American" and "I had to sell my other car to refinance my home mortgage and now it belongs to Bank of America." I took the escalator five steps at a time (see: Elf) and emerged on a large floor filled with everything. Gift wrap, knitting supplies, fall wreaths, wooden sculptures, halloween costumes, beach pails, posters, and yes, frames. So many frames! I walked around the frame section drooling for a while. ("Cleanup in aisle Frame!") Then I spotted the perfect 11x17 from across the room. I gave it a quick glance to see if it was looking at me too. It was! I approached it carefully, so as not to startle it. The $9 price tag begged, "Love me!" When we finally touched, I held it in my arms and we danced all night long.

It seems unbelievable that a company like Michael's could have such poor customer…read moregrievance-resolution process. From the store employees, to Customer Care, and ultimately to the escalation/grievance service, I encountered an inability- or unwillingness- to resolve what should have been a very simple problem: a special-order frame that was canceled the same day it was ordered, and the resulting balance that should have been removed from a new Michaels credit-card account. I received the credit-card bill before I even received the physical card. A company reveals its true nature through how it treats its customers - not only when everything goes smoothly, but especially when something goes wrong. The quality of a company and its staff is demonstrated by their willingness and ability to listen, take responsibility and find a reasonable resolution to a customers problem. Unfortunately, my experience with Michaels demonstrated the opposite. After calling the store, Customer Care and the Escalation service, I was still left without a reasonable resolution to a canceled order. Thankfully, consumers today have many businesses to choose from. After this experience, I will never shop at Michaels and will take my business elsewhere.

What a wonderful idea--keeping art supplies out of the landfills--and it is beautifully executed…read more My granddaughter heard about this boutique, and we have been three times in the last 3 weeks. Tucked into a corner of the brightly-colored little shops off Ridge-Macintire road--you know: near circa--the Scrappy Elephant has an amazing assortment of fabric, yarn, painting supplies, cards that can be turned into artwork, and every once in a while a surprise item: on visit #2 my granddaughter found a kit for making a music box! As to the prices, they are unbelievably low. Some items are priced individually, but for most of your purchases you can buy a special (and very handsome) bag--there are four sizes, if I remember correctly--and fill it to the top. Bring the bag back with you anytime, and since it's not your first time--as evidenced by the bag--you get a price reduction on the contents. My granddaughters and I can give this shop an A+ without hesitation.

(I was actually trying to find an ABC location.) For an excellent and very descriptive review, please read the one posted by "Taylor R" on 2/4/2023. I hope the pictures I have posted will help explain the pricing and the hours they are open. This is a must visit for people who enjoy being crafty, scrappy, and artistic.
