Fast Betty's Cafe opened recently in the former Heidi's, corner of Warren and Florence. There is a very small parking lot behind the building and parking on the street. The place has an inviting 1950's theme atmosphere with plenty of classic decorations on the painted yellow walls including old records, old poster signs and Betty Boop decor of course. 1950s The ceiling was painted like a red and black checkerboard. There is ample table seating, booths, and counter seating.
As for the food, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner at fair to moderate pricing. Breakfast menu includes eggs, bennies, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and breakfast sides (homefries, grits, biscuits/gravy, cereal). The lunch & dinner menu includes fried appetizers, wings, grape leaves, salads, hot & cold subs, burgers, hot dogs, and dinner entrees (pasta, chicken, veal, steak tips, seafood, & more). At the time of this posting, they were not yet serving pizza since the pizza oven did not arrive yet.
I stopped in at Fast Betty's for dinner recently and it was seat yourself. The waitress arrived shortly after I sat down and gave me a menu and offered a drink. They have bottled Coke products in the cooler. I started out with the Homemade Mozzarella Sticks ($8) which actually 6 breaded triangles with a firm light breading filled with gooey hot mozzarella cheese. For dinner, the Spaghetti & Meatballs ($14) was comprised of a reasonable portion of soft pasta noodles (more like semi wide noodles) topped with 4 firm meatballs and a zesty tomato sauce already mixed well into the pasta.
After I was finished, the waitress dropped off the check, but I also wanted dessert. The only desserts they had was fried dough traditional or a bananas foster fried dough. I went with the second and do not regret it. The Bananas Foster Fried Dough ($10) was a good size chewy fried dough topped with a very sweet & sticky bananas foster sauce (like syrup), vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, powdered sugar, cinnamon, chocolate chunks, chocolate sauce drizzle. It took some effort in cutting the messy and chewy fried dough. The check total with tax and before tip was $34.24.
Overall, the food here tasted very good and the service here was attentive and courteous. So, if you're in the mood for the 1950's style diner atmosphere and like Betty Boop, then Fast Betty's is the place to go!
