I started coming to Fashion Forward when I was looking for make-up and hair for my wedding; Taff was great during my trial, especially given that my hair is thin and frizzy and rather... uh, challenging. She also got up SUPER early to help me get ready for the big day. My hair was a work of art and my make-up looked great and stayed put until I scrubbed it off that night. It looked great in photos. If you're looking for wedding MUAH, they're a great pick (and very reasonably priced). After my wedding, Fashion Forward became my regular salon. I still see Taff, and she does a great job, and is open to my sometimes quirky ideas (like pink hair). They allow you to book appointments online, which is great for me, and they send text reminders -- a huge help since you often have to book pretty far in advance. My only real critiques would be, 1) Their salon's chairs. I'm a plus-size person and find their chairs really uncomfortable. Ideally, I'd love if they'd just get chairs without arms, or had one station with a chair with no arms. The chairs' arms dig into my hips the whole time I'm there and it's super uncomfortable. They also don't really have plus-size robes, so I usually end up squeezing into one that's way too small and is pretty uncomfortable. Better size accommodation would be awesome. 2) You cannot leave your tip on a card. So, if you're like me and never carry cash on you, it always means a trip to the bank before your appointment. I get it, but it's kind of an inconvenience for the customer. That's mostly a "me" problem but it would be nice if tipping on your card were an option. read more

I went here because it was close to my house and had awesome reviews. I also chose it because I could make an appointment online, which is a god-send to a person like me who gets anxiety picking up the phone. The store is neat and clean and well decorated, albeit a little small. The waiting area does not have much seating, but the seats it does have are very comfortable. The reason I have given this salon 3 stars is because of the attitude of my stylist. When I walked into the salon I hadn't had a haircut in 3 years, and I used everyday products. I'm 23, I make barely minimum wage, and have to buy food over a haircut and expensive salon products. My stylist made me feel belittled because I didn't get a haircut every month and I didn't use expensive products, and I was younger than their target audience. She didn't come out and say it directly but this was the vibe I was getting. I asked her a good suggestion for an affordable shampoo and conditioner that I could buy anywhere and she said that there was none. She did do an excellent job, and did an awesome job dealing with my crazy hair. But I will be finding another place that respects me as a younger adult trying spend my hard earned money getting pampered once in a blue moon. read more

I am fairly new to VA and have tried 2 other salons in the Haymarket/Gainesville area. They were okay, but I was not completely sold on the service, quality or price. Fashion Forward is definitely going to be my salon. I had Kim which I am glad the receptionist booked her for me. Kim was extremely nice and friendly not to mention I loved my trim. It is extremely clean inside and the atmosphere is definitely what I was looking for. I am from Louisiana, so I was glad to find a nice poshy salon with that small town country feel. Comfortable middle. Not too upscale to include prices and friendly service. This was my first time with B&B products and my friend swears by them, but I am pretty picky on products. No issues though with B&B and my hair didn't feel like I had a lot of product in it which is my biggest complaint. I don't mind the long drive if you're getting excellent service. Since their opening I have been a frequent client. If you're a guy looking for a quality hair cut without the butchering you'd get at a local barber shop please see these girls. I went to this salon because it was close to home and I hadn't had a haircut in over a year. The place is nice, clean and well kept. The staff seemed nice. However I'm giving this salon 3 stars due to being in-honest. I came in with photos of how my old stylist used to cut my hair as well as Internet photos of the original cut that inspired the cut I've been getting for years now. I like fun, funky, choppy rock and roll hair. When I showed the photos, my stylist said she could definitely do that. However, the end result was nothing like how I've had my hair cut before. I requested, fun and funky, I received soccer mom boring hair. If she couldn't do what I asked, she should have told me. Upon going somewhere else to possibly get my cut fixed to what I really wanted (which it was), the stylist found the back of my hair to be uneven leading me to get my hair cut slightly shorter than I wanted. If you're looking to get fun hair done, this isn't the place. read more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SALON - The staff are all very friendly no one is snobby at all and this salon is very upscale! I love going to Sara for her to cut my hair and she does a phenomenal job.. She is very personable and knows what she is doing! I would drive from another state just to go to this salon.. That is how great it is! It is clean, they serve beverages, and they carry the Bumble & Bumble line.. It is very easy to get to, even when Haymarket Day parade was going on we could see get in the parking lot. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I brought in pictures. I explained clearly and this is what I got instead: Asked for long side swiped bangs Got. Uneven across the forhead bangs on one side of my face. The bangs were got so short the barely reached halfway down my forhead. Asked for layers to help lighten my hair for styling Got straight hair line cut between my chin and neck. I've always been someone willing to try new things. Play with my hair. I have never left a hair salon wanting to cry. It is awful! And it make matters worse they were rude to me. I will be telling all my friends, moma groups, hell even strangers in the supermarket to NOT go here. I had to go to another salon to have them fix what they could. This salon is fantastic! I have had my hair done by Corey, the owner, several times and facials with Sarah. I like to change up my looks and Corey is always willing to listen and give advice. She is extremely knowledgeable and talented. I leave loving my new cut and color every time! Sarah, the esthetician at the salon, is helping me to transform my aging skin back to a more youthful glow. Taff is a very detailed and talented stylist. I would go back to see her specifically. Cozy small town atmosphere with charming decor. She was friendly but not gossipy or pretentious. Salon plays fun music and has a cute coffee bar. Taff was upfront about costs of services so there were no surprises. She was very open and familiar with the latest coloring techniques. She invested in a pair of high end scissors and is excellent at giving an amazing trim. Fast Forward Salon may not be for everyone, but it's definitely for me. The salon was small and quiet, unlike other places where I go and I swear I think I'm walking into a night club. My stylist, Kim, was so sweet and listened thoroughly to my concerns as I expressed my nervousness in cutting my long naturally red hair! But she took her time, referenced the photo I brought, and after just an hour, I had healthy and beautifully blown out hair. I will definitely be returning and am going to spread the word! read more

I chose this salon because of their great reviews and took a chance on who I would get to cut my hair. I ended up with Alyssa who did an amazing job! I sent a bridal party appointment request on May 22nd. I sent another email on May 29th to follow up on the status of the appointment request since I hadn't heard from anyone. I didn't get a response until June 9th. I don't understand why I couldn't get a "hold tight, we're looking into it" email while they were trying to find enough staff to accommodate the bridal party number. My friend has great color and cut so I decided to give her stylist Jaci a try and I am so thankful I did! From the time you walk in till the time you walk out you feel like you've known these guys forever. The shop is small, quaint, clean-felt like Steel Magnolia's-just drinking coffee and talking while getting your hair done. Jaci took the time to talk to me about color selections and also the cut I was going for. I have short hair so I wanted my cut to look edgy and sharp. Their color line is awesome! I made an appointment at this salon because the prices were reasonable and its close to my house. I was greeted by the receptionist, checked in and kindly offered a beverage. While waiting for my stylist I inquired about bridal services since I am getting married in a few months. The bridal coordinator handed me a price list and told me I needed to go online and fill out the questionnaire for services and availability. Now that really irritates me because if you show that much of a lack of concern for going to a computer or scheduling book to see if that date is available or ask me what services Im interested in, then why am I going to take the time to go answer your questionnaire online at home when I'm standing in your store? (You quickly lost a potential client there.) After the (un)coordinator left, she went to a salon chair and two other stylists began to work on her hair and have a discussion. I personally think it's unprofessional for employees to work on other employees' hair while the salon is full and clients are waiting. Maybe a more appropriate time is when people aren't waiting and it's busy or even after hours. When I told my stylist what I wanted (to go lighter for summer) she explained it wasn't a color appointment at that point and I would need a different service that would go over her allotted 30 minutes to almost one hour. Now, I get my hair done quiet a bit and I've NEVER had my hair professionally colored in 30 minutes or less so I'm not sure why they only schedule a color for a short period when its a longer process. Anyways, after telling me she didn't have time to do what I had originally wanted I opted not to a partial or any service. At no point did my stylist ask me if I wanted to rebook or see if a different stylist would be able to accommodate me which shows how much she really didn't care. I walked out of the salon without getting anything done because of a lack of customer service and poor scheduling. I will not recommend this salon to anyone! read more

Kim and Alyssa are both wonderful, give great cuts and the staff are always accommodating & polite. Prices are very reasonable and salon is clean (with little snacks and drinks my kids adore.) FINALLY! I love my hair............ Since leaving NYC four years ago, I have been so lost and seeking for a great colorist and stylist. I found her! Corey......... she is just fantastic. My color no longer looks "skunky" and I finally am receiving compliments on both my cut and color. And the best best thing I have ever done with my hair is the Bumble and Bumble straightening treatment. I have NO FRIZZ. It's glorious! My hair usually looks like Monica from Friends in the "Bahamas" episode when it gets anywhere near humidity. And this treatment has no formaldehyde!!!! read more
