The Holiday Inn Express & Suites North Brunswick seems content to drift somewhere in the middle, like a tired commuter floating down Route 1. I arrived around 4:00 PM last weekend to find the lobby empty except for one poor soul already hollering "Hello!" into the void like a man trying to contact the dead. By the time an employee emerged from the back room, four parties had formed a small, weary congregation around the front desk. Not the warmest beginning. To her credit, the woman who checked me in was genuinely pleasant. She acknowledged my Platinum status and upgraded us to a suite without my asking, which ended up as less of a luxury and more like being handed the least bruised apple in the barrel. Still, kindness counts. The suite itself was another matter. Nothing horrifying. No crime scene outlines or raccoons operating the ice machine. Just a general sense of neglect. Dingy carpets, worn furniture, the sort of room that makes you wonder how many rolling suitcases and defeated business travelers have passed through before you. The next morning around 10:15, I went downstairs hoping for coffee strong enough to convince me civilization was still worth preserving. Only decaf remained. I attempted to inform the gentleman at the front desk, but he was deeply committed to a personal cell phone conversation and seemed unwilling to let his job duties interrupt it. Nothing terrible happened here. Nothing memorable either. It is a hotel that exists, nothing more and nothing less. Three stars.

If no one else was around I would take my shoes off in the elevator from the lobby to avoid the shock. rooms are clean and beds are fine but don't let the pretty lobby fool you - it's not that upscale. Pool and spa are never open. Walls are thin - I could hear the lady in the next room coughing. Some broken elements in my room - tub faucet coming off, drain broken, hold/cold rubbed off, etc.

It did not collapse, which felt like an appropriate baseline. The lobby tries very hard. High ceilings, a sense of occasion, the faint suggestion that important people once gathered here to discuss important things. Then you reach the room and the illusion loosens its tie. I had a corner king. It was enormous. Vast, even. You could host a small philosophy class in there, Socratic circle and all. Unfortunately, the room looked like it had already hosted several and lost all of the debates that happened there. The furniture was worn, the decor dated, and everything felt just a little too tired to argue back. In the elevator, an older gentleman joined me. He looked around, nodded once, and said, "this place sure isn't what it used to be." Then he got off. I believed him immediately. The hotel exists in a very convenient location, which is clearly its greatest strength. You can walk to restaurants, to the university, to the train station, to wherever it is you need to be. But convenience is not the same as comfort. Service feels inconsistent. Sometimes friendly, sometimes distracted, as if everyone is working from slightly different instructions. The amenities are a gamble. Some are limited, some unavailable, some simply not what you expected when you booked. There are also fees that appear with a quiet confidence, including valet parking that loudly reminds you your car now belongs to a system larger than yourself. Nothing here is terrible in isolation. That is the trick. It is all just a bit off. Slightly worn. Slightly overpriced for what you get. And so you leave with the feeling that you visited a memory rather than a hotel. A place that still stands, still functions, but no longer quite believes in itself.

On the third day, the bride and groom are dressed in traditional and eleborate red garments. Wedding vows are exchanged with the Holy Koran held over the bride's head. The paperwork is signed in front of an Islamic priest and guests. At the end of the night, the bride and groom host their first dinner (reception) as husband and wife. We were present on the third day of their celebration. The bride looked absolutely gorgeous! She was dressed dripping with jewels. I love the lavish jewelry, intricate bead work and embroidery that adorns her sari and veil. The opening of the ceremony consist of prayers, singing, and formal portraits taken with the bride & groom at the center stage. An open buffet of appetizers- tandoori wings, chutney and dressings, chickpeas salad and paan (Indian bread) was served along with coffee and tea. Stations include tiki chicken masala (chicken curry finished with cream sauce), yellow chicken curry, goat curry, bastimi rice with peas, pann, roti, samosas (indian puffy appetizer filled with potatoes and vegetables), chickpeas, salad, and condiments. For dessert, sweet potato Indian pudding and strawberry icecream with fruit seeds. The waitstaff immediately cleared dishes and utensils off the table. Clean napkins were distributed frequently. Later, in the evening the room featured a dance floor with the DJ and MC. The guests were pretty amazing with their dancing w/o any alcohol. Overall, the reception held in the conference room was very spaceous and accomodating. The facility was neatly kept and clean.

The terrible service began the next day, when I was checking out of the hotel, an unbalanced employee named Sam immediately after checkout time began banging on my door and kicking me out in a blatant manner! I can't remember more terrible customer treatment! Moreover, the more I apologized, the more he insulted me, drove me away and said that he was waiting for me, and also threatened me that he would withdraw a lot of money from my account as a fine and that I had to run away almost in my underwear immediately after he started rambling at my door As a result, I asked for a check and all the information for which he gave me, the papers were built, I asked again for a check, to which he said that he could not give it to me, I asked again for confirmation that everything was fine with the number since I had already handed over the keys, to this he again replied that he could not give any check I was extremely surprised, I am 100% sure that only scammers do this ranslate text with your camera Subsequently, he added that if you need a check, you must arrive after 5 pm. I said that I could not come at that time because I was leaving, he said that he could not help. He constantly takes breaks for smokes, although I can't stand the smell of nicotine, I started saying that I'll leave you a corresponding review. If you don't give me a check, to which he replied, I don't care anyway, write right now, I don't care, continue to threaten and insult me! He said this so confidently as if his superiors, senior manager or someone else were covering for him. This terrible service left a big aftertaste, I don't know what he was trying to prove, but he proved that this is the worst service, the worst hotel and the stupidest act of an employee of this hotel. I would like to quickly forget about this terrible day when I arrived at this hotel and met this boor. and an ill-mannered person and they still haven't given me a check

There was always plenty of parking and I loved that. We know this is not a 5 star hotel so don't expect that. I had a Queen size bed which was great for two people. The room was very big and had a sofa; big bench and desk with chair. It had a fridge and microwave as well. The room and All appliances were cleaned. The bed was not the most comfortable but it was ok. They had plenty of pillows for us but they were a bit on the tiny side. The breakfast was plenty options and all great. I was impressed with that. I will definitely try this place again.

They attempted to resolve by moving us to a suite. Failing to say the suite was also short a bed. The substitute was a sofa bed couch, that was ridiculously uncomfortable, that they apparently thought was a worthy substitute. In moving to the additional room, it was a downgrade with no balcony and a bizarre view of the roof of another portion of the property. Kind of strange the front desk would consider the room was an upgrade solely cause the room size. The hotel doesn't contain noise from fellow rooms (or at least the room we had), as you could clearly hear conversations from neighbors in the room next door. The room had what appeared to be newer furnishings, but some of the larger pieces (where maybe extra pillows, blanket, etc. would be stored) were barren and made for a dreary ascetic. Maybe not a big deal, but it has been a few decades where I have been at a non-Travelodge category hotel with an ant sighting in the room. All that to say, you may want to select another hotel if staying in this area and can find a comparable rate.
