Crabknockers Seafood Market - J.O. seasoning

Crabknockers Seafood Market

We were visiting family in the area over Labor Day weekend and my brother-in-law told me it was…read moreblue crab season. So of course, I requested it for one of our meals during our visit. We did try to catch them ourselves, but they weren't biting! LOL. Instead of going out to eat at a restaurant, I suggested we do a takeout order to be able to take our time and fully enjoy at home. Years ago, we had the crabs at a restaurant and it took me HOURS to pick them! I think my brother-in-law felt bad (and the rest of the family was getting impatient) and started picking the last few for me, because it was taking soooooo long! He suggested we go to Crab Knockers, a local seafood shop that sells fresh seafood, but that also cooks it for you! Inside, they have old arcade games with a fishing themed decor. They have a case full of seafood with a combo of locally sourced and brought in from other places. The shop was quite busy with a steady flow of patrons. We got 2 dozen blue crabs, steamed with J.O. seasoning (medium spice) and it came out to roughly $60! It took about 20-25 minutes or so. When we got home, we got right to work. My brother-in-law showed me the proper way Marylanders (is that the proper term?) and I think I got the hang of it by the 3rd crab hahaha. Even my oldest managed well! Crabs were delicious! Some claws were a little overcooked, but that's just the nature of seafood and takeout. The body meat was perfect! There is a lot of work for these little guys, but it fed me and my oldest as our only dinner and a few other family members who ate one or two. We even had enough crab meat for two crab cakes for breakfast the next day! I highly suggest checking them out. It's less expensive and less work in terms of cooking (and mess)! I'll definitely ask for crabs again next time we visit! Enjoy and go out and support!

Easy 5 stars! First time ordering crabs (1/2 bushel females) and ordering over the phone was easy,…read moreemployees friendly and helpful. Crabs were cooked within 20 min of me placing the order, crabs seasoned generously with J.O., and they were cooked perfectly. The crabs weren't wet like some other establishments. Crabs were fat and full of eggs! And if you know me and my family, and majority of Asians, we LOVE our eggs! Wait, what?! Crab meat was sweet, eggs and crab buttah tasty...what more can you ask. There's several seafood markets in St. Mary's county and I'll be putting Crabknockers on the top of my list whenever I need a crab/seafood fix in the future. I will definitely be spending my hard earned cash here in the future. Highly recommended! Check them out, you won't be disappointed. Oh, they sell snakehead fillets, too! YEAH!

Yelp tried to tell me but I didn't pay attention. Lesson learned…read more I'm a seafood snob. Grew up in Charleston, we would get our own oysters, crabs, shrimp, fish, so I know what good seafood is. Richmond has some respectable seafood but nothing like I had a Shoreline today. Did I mention my husband grew up in the Boston area? For him, lobster and clams are a weeknight dinner and his uncle, who was a lobster fisherman, would cringe at the lobster we've been eating. When you're away from the source, you have to make do. Not anymore. Shoreline Market has amazingly simple, well-prepared high quality food. And they do it for a decent price. I have a new favorite seafood place in Richmond. Came for lunch on a Saturday. We ended up getting the crudo, which was a tuna poke; lobster roll; clam sandwich; potatoes and salad, plus a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. Everything tasted great and was clearly masterfully prepared so the seafood was the star. All in our bill was around $90, totally reasonable for what we got. On the way out we bought more food to have at home. Fish stew and pimento cheese and another seafood soup. We work from home and are super close and HUGE fans of seafood, and the prepared foods they have is reasonably priced and fresh, so when we don't eat at the counter, we will take something home. I'm traveling this week and if I was home, I would have bought a few more items, such as the shrimp and artichoke pasta. We were told about these 10-course dinners they do so we booked one in May. So excited. I'm sad I didn't come sooner. I knew Shoreline opened but I assumed it was on the side of Patterson close to town. Glad to know they are right around the corner!
