When returning to get 2 lbs of shrimp that was promised when I on my last visit purchased 4 dozens LG males and 2lbs shrimp after arriving to my destination notice no shrimp in any of the crab bags...called was promised to get the shrimp and a extra pound for inconvenience agreed left my name and told to on next visit give your name and we will take care of you. Racism 101: My cousin (who's black) was standing in line to order and asked the young boy behind the counter (who's white) if he were taking orders. He told my cousin no and that she would have to wait for another person. Another white man and his son walked in and approached the counter to place an order, and that same young boy who did not take my cousin's order, took that white man and his son's order. My mom has been craving crabs and we were recommended by a local to come here. We purchased 2 dozen female crabs ($20/dozen), 1 dozen oysters ($10), and fresh fish. We got the crabs and oysters steamed and the fish we brought home to make sinigang (Filipino tamarind soup). A basket comes with one side included. I chose a fish basket with French fries and was presented with no less than six options for the type of fish from which to choose! I decided on catfish. My wife selected fried scallops. We also ordered a small serving of hush puppies as an extra side to share. The catfish and scallops were prepared as we waited and were very fresh! The fries were fine, but he hush puppies were really tasty. I would come again and might try a different fish for variety. Captain Smiths also sells hot sauces and seasonings and fresh seafood. Shrimp were the only good thing. (1 the one star). Website said they have green beans but they do not. When I went back to pick up my and my aunts order he asked how many crab deviled eggs I got. I wasn't sure as they were with her order. He found the ticket and rang everything up. Get to the hotel. No deviled eggs. Thankfully it was super close so I went back. No apology. Nothing. You'd be better off going to the gas station right near them for food. Also the crab deviled eggs were disgustingly sweet and only had a tiny piece of crab on top. I'm sure the fried clams didn't actually contain any clam. Hard and empty. If you know anything about good seafood avoid this place. read more

I love these guys! Customer service is great. All the workers there work so hard! The jumbo crabs are actually Jumbo and the Large are actually large lol. our second visit we bought crabs, shrimp, a crab cake and scallops. Got in the car and opened the scallops and discover that they were steamed instead of fried. Then we tasted one of the scallops and learned that they were not real scallops. It was really fish. Returned and our money back. We were told that they do not give refunds because Seafood is very expensive. The owner was in the back. The gentleman said he would ask her. He went to the back and asked, Owner said no we can't give you refund or exchange. sorry. she didn't come out to us as customers didn't seem concerned at all. So we will not be returning. Quick & relatively affordable fried food platters. Coming from the DC area, we are so used to getting our freshly made seafood platters from Captain White's near the Warf. So...yeah. I guess we are a little spoiled because the food is freshly cooked in front of us and you're surrounded by fresh seafood. At Captain Smith's, the shrimp seemed like it was precooked. Not sure how fresh it was. We thought about getting crabs but needed a quick dinner for this evening...so maybe next time. Credit cards accepted for $10 minimum purchase. Plenty of parking in the shared lot. Primarily a take out place but they do have some minimal seating that people mostly used to wait for their food. I'm a fan of the captain's seafood. They have a fairly large selection and everything I've ever bought here was good. Because we're right on the Chesapeake Bay, the crabs, oysters and rockfish are usually fresh. All the other fish of course has to come from far away and is typically Frozen and then thawed here for sale. You can get your crabs steamed or do them yourself at home, same for the shrimp. There are two small tables inside so if you felt like it you could actually order up some seafood and eat it here. They also have Smith Island Cake for sale by the slice for about $4 per slice. Today I stopped in to get some shrimp and it was 9.99 per pound for the mediums or 12.99 per pound for the large. Most other places tend to rate their shrimp by the count, so I'm not exactly sure how Captain Smith's measure medium or large but I was pleased with my order. read more

Saturday afternoon I stopped by to buy 1lb of lump back fin meat. when I went to dump the meat out into a bowl I noticed there was little lump back fin in the container. I was disappointed. Very little backfin at all. I also asked about buying steamed crabs. I was told since it was afternoon they would not steam fresh crabs for just one person at this time of day. but Icould purchase them reheated for the same price. Reheated crabs are nowhere near as good as freshly steamed. They also told me I could come back later when more customer's were there and get them steamed than (around 4). I felt as if I was being a bother to the young man behind the counter just because I wanted freshly steamed Jumbo crabs?? I have never ever had a problem with walking in and getting freshly steamed crabs before today. I have been a loyal customer all these yrs. Ordered a half bushel of jumbo crabs and steamed large shrimp. The crabs were not as big as some jumbos I've had in the past but crabs right now are running slightly smaller than the norm. Very disappointed in the customer service. First, I've bought a lot of crabmeat here over the years. Picked up a pound of backfin this afternoon and took it home on ice. Took the top off to make crab cakes and was blown back by a very bad smell. Tasted a small piece and tasted bad. I know what good crab meat tastes like and this wasn't it. I understand that sometimes you get a bad batch. I called the store and explained to the guy who answered that I wanted to bring the empty container back for a refund next week when I'll be going through Solomons again and he said there was nothing he could do! I explained again I've bought a lot of crab meat from them but he said the owner would feel the same way. Unbelievable. I cannot believe it's taken me this long to write a review. Every year my family visits Solomon's Island for a camping trip and every year we get a bushel of crabs for the family from this very spot. The crabs are BIG and perfectly seasoned. The crabs are little pricey, but they are female AND they are blue crabs. This a tradition that will not stop due to the service of this Seafood Market and because they have never over charged us, or given us a bad experience.
