Unfortunately, a lot. This was our first time coming to a demo class and we were very disappointed. We came for the paella. We were looking forward to seeing how it is authentically made. First thing was... No paella pan! Really? Apparently it went on vacation with the Chef. Shame on her. If you have a class coming for paella, you get another paella pan. These classes are not inexpensive. As far as authenticity went, the chef went off script on several different steps we were looking for authentic and we got impromptu. I felt very bad for the Chef who was doing the demo. He was really trying to do a great job considering the circumstances. I do not hold him accountable. Except for maybe the dessert, which was sickening sweet. Could not take more than two bites That being said, we had a lovely time lovely people. The staff was very friendly. Disappointing Experience - Not Worth the Price I was really looking forward to the Asian Dumplings Cooking Class, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The class started over 30 minutes late and ran long, which caused me to be late for my next commitment. More importantly, it wasn't truly a cooking class; it was a demonstration. Most of us simply watched, while a few lucky participants were invited to roll and seal one dumpling each. There was no hands-on learning, no guidance, and no opportunity to build skills. To make matters worse, I was seated near the back, where I couldn't see the main table well. The viewing monitor wasn't zoomed in enough to be helpful, and loud conversations around me made it hard to hear the instructor. Reserved seating was allowed, so although I arrived early, I was unable to sit in several empty front-row seats because they were being held for friends who arrived much later. The food itself was underwhelming and bland, lacking in authentic flavor, and not worth the wait. Two of the dumpling varieties used store-bought wrappers, and portions were small. The sauces were forgettable, and the pace of serving was slow, leaving us with lots of waiting and very little to enjoy. We weren't even given recipes to take home, which, after tasting the food, I wasn't too disappointed about. At $100 per ticket, I expected an interactive, educational experience with quality food and better organization. Unfortunately, I left without learning any new skills, still hungry, and feeling like I wasted both time and money. I would not recommend this class. The company has expanded quite a bit and although it is impressive, I learned a lot more when the company was smaller and more hands-on. The classes are more demo than hands-on. I am the type that learns more from doing rather than watching. Follow up communication has become frustrating. Maybe they are growing too fast and loosing sight of the customer? I signed up for this class about a month in advanced. I was so excited about it. It was going to be my little Eat, love, pray weekend trip for my birthday but I came down sick the week before. I thought I'd be better by the weekend but my sore throat came back that night. The policy is you have to make the transfer to another day 48 hours before the class. I technically emailed them 46 hours. I also called the next day but no one returned my call. I went to the doctor. I had a sinus infection and even got a doctors note. When they finally got back to me they said absolutely no exceptions even though I explained to them what happened. Horrible customer service with absolutely no compassion. I understand if you want to have a rigid policy but I have a group of 8 girlfriends who love doing stuff like this. I had already suggested we do a girls day trip out to this place cause a cooking class was on their bucket list. That's $150 x 8 = $1,200. But they'd rather keep my $150 than provide an exception that would win them new business. I won't be rebooking my trip to this place. The way they treated me just left a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended. I'd rather patron someplace that cares about building relationships with their customers and isn't focus solely on taking peoples money. read more

This place offers so much! They have cooking classes, cooking demos, instructional classes, all varieties about food and how to prepare it! I have taken several classes throughout the years, even a wine class, which was more instructional. I started taking cooking classes when the owner taught from her house. After she moved to the current location in Solomon's, I was nervous that it would loose its charm. But it didn't, her sparkling personality and great cooking instruction still shine through. If she's not teaching a class, her employees do, and they are just as great. Last week I requested a private meal for my fiancé on their beautiful scenic deck. Last night we went and it was one of the best meals I may have ever had. She is a phenomenal chef, a true craftsman. I was honored to be there and pleased with everything. Her staff was pleasant, professional, and made the experience that much better. It is really nice to be around employees that love their job, and express how much they love the person they are working for. It's an extension of how wonderful the owner truly is. Lastly, her shop Provisions is wonderful. I have bought many things from there over the years. Everything that she sells there is the best of the best. I have never been disappointed by the items I had previously purchased. I have used the knife block that they sell for years and it has held up well. (Her husband makes these and they are great!) I even bought the cookbook she wrote and am looking forward to using it. In summary, this is a place not to miss! read more

No Thyme to Cook brings big city culinary experiences to quaint Solomons Island. It is the center of our social scene and has delivered wonderful experiences during this pandemic. We can't give this business enough praise. The food is fantastic, the view is breathtaking, and the prices are a bargain considering it the caliber of food and experience. The staff goes out of their way to create positive engagements. So, I wouldn't call this a cooking class, but more so a cooking demonstration. We went there for a brunch class, and basically spent 2.5 hrs watching someone cook in front of us. Brunch consisted of french toast, stuffed french toast, pancakes and crepes (in that order). Honestly, by the time we got to the french toast, I was kinda sick of all the carbs, breads, and sweet stuff and was wishing there was more variety involved. I left the meal feeling full, but not satisfied, and then hungry a short while later. I wasn't impressed by any of the items, and honestly could have cooked it better at home. Overall, the entire presentation was long, kinda disorganized and tedious, and boring. It was also incredibly pricey for what you got. You can go next door and get a great meal at less than half the cost. It's ironic how their name is No Thyme for Cooking, seeing how I could cook at home or go to a restaurant in much less time than we spent here. I also think they had false advertising. We went in thinking we would actually get to cook ourselves and nowhere did it say that you'll be watching someone cook. I definitely wouldn't have signed up had I been told that. read more

Had a wonderful class today at No Thyme To Cook! My sister and I took our mother as a gift for her 80th Birthday! Today's class was pie making! Who doesn't love pie!?! We learned to make 3 different pies from the crust to the filling and all the tips and tricks in between! If you're looking for a fun outing that's wrapped into a "cooking" learning experience, this is the place to be! I understand they have couples cooking classes as well as classes for children! Yesterday was our 39th wedding anniversary and I wanted to have a special dinner. We've tried a few of the local restaurants takeout service and were underwhelmed. Consequently, we were really pleasantly surprised at the quality of this meal and service! The steamed shrimp were delicious and a perfect appetizer to share. The mixed greens salad was a perfect balance of sweet, acid, and a little fat with the soft bleu cheese. The bread was fresh and crunchy and as good as we had in France. The main course we ordered were the lump back crab cakes with amazing remoulade sauce. There was very little filler and the crab was fresh tasting. I was surprised by the nice addition of lemon orzo. Boy would I love that recipe! The delicate but bright lemon flavor enhanced the crab cakes without being too rich. After we let all that food settle we dove into a creme brûlée and a chocolate lava cake. We have already ordered a celebration box for father's day and can't wait to enjoy this wonderful food again. read more

My daughter and I recently enjoyed an evening out at No Thyme to Cook. This cooking school has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We dined on a classic French, Julia Child's inspired, Beef Bourguignon that was tender and tasty. Kudos to Chef Gwyn Novak and her crew for a delightful experience.
