I took gyoza & sushi roll master class and it was worth 2 trips from Upper East Side to Hoboken. She limits the class size only up to 4 people and unlike inpersonal and expensive culinary schools, every steps were hands on and I walked out very confident in what I learned. Anyway, gyoza is Japanese dumpling and I always loved gyoza and so my husband. In the class, we made everything from scratch; I learned how to make gyoza wrapper, fillings and the tasty dipping sauce, and how to wrap gyoza! I think we made about 60 gyoza among 4 of us and we cleaned up everything quickly. Yuko also served some brown rice and miso soup to go with, which was nice. I made gyoza at home a few times already and it turned out petty good. As for sushi roll master, I had such a fun time to create my own sushi rolls. Yuko stayed right next to me and gave me the detail instructions so I made an almost perfect sushi roll at my first try! We made so many rolls that there was no space on my plate, although I kept eating while I made rolls. She handed me a take away box to bring them home. Yuko's cooking is authentic, useful and inexpensive. I highly recommend if you really want to learn Japanese cooking. The traveling time was about 1 hour from Upper East Side in Manhattan, but once I got on the bus from Port Authority on 42nd and 8th Avenue in Midtown, I was in Hoboken in 15 mins. read more

Yuko's Cooking Class was a fantastic hit! Yuko brought her sushi studio to my home and it was an amazing experience. I have been wanting to have my friends over for a dinner party but have struggled to come up with a menu that is delicious and fancy enough to satisfy my foodie friends. Yuko and her assistant took care of every last detail and brought everything to turn my kitchen and dining room into a five star Japanese restaurant. My friends and I learned all about the art of making sushi as well as the most delicious winter miso soup that I have ever tasted. It was so fun to learn to make amazing and fresh sushi rolls while laughing and catching up with good friends. Everyone had a blast and marvelled at the quality of the instruction and food we created ourselves. This was one of the best dinner parties that I have ever hosted. The only thing that I had to worry about was learning to make my own spicy tuna roll, Yuko took care of everything else. Each of my guests, left my house as sushi masters, armed with their own sushi rolling mats, recipes and instructions on how to make their own sushi at home. Yuko's Sushi Roll Master Class was amazing! Yuko is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and personable-- and her home was cozy and warm. We felt welcomed and comfortable as Yuko provided demos of instruction and as we practiced methods of cutting and preparing various sushi fillings, sashimi, and rolls. We learned how to properly cook sushi rice, prepare all of the vegetables and fish, as well as practice various methods of rolling sushi. I can confidently say that Yuko's class has provided me with the practice and information I need to make my own sushi rolls at home with ease! Yuko provides all guests with take-home recipes, information on local locations for getting supplies and sushi grade fish, your own bamboo mat, and all of your leftover sushi (which tastes so fresh and delicious!) After the class, I raved about it to everyone and have already made a refreshing dessert at home that Yuko served after our Sushi dinner. My boyfriend and I attended a private class at Yuko's. We had a great time! If you love sushi, you will love taking a class with Yuko. As soon as you walk in, Yuko makes you feel very comfortable. She is very friendly and enthusiastic about her classes. She is very informative so that even after you leave her class you are ready and excited to make sushi at home for your friends and family. She shows you every step by step instruction and is very hands on learning. Yuko is so welcoming, you feel you are spending the next couple of hours with a friend. With the price you pay, the classes are definitely worth it. You make so much food for yourself and what ever you do not finish, you can take home. Yuko also provides you with recipes and places you can shop to get the best ingredients you need to start preparing sushi in your own home. Yuko's cooking class is amazing. To be honest, I am not cooking type of person. I like delicious food but just can't cook well. After I took Yuko's classes, cooking became easier. Her receipts are easy to follow and ingredients are also easy to get in most of supermarket. It is a big plus for me. Even me was able to practice the dishes with my poor kitchen gadgets at home. Unlike those fancy cooking class they teach you fancy dishes but you can't really practice that at home because of you lack of either special seasoning/ ingredient or some special kitchen tools. Atmosphere in Yuko's class is really casual and relaxing. Just like you go to a girl friend's place and cooking together, chat a little bit and enjoy the meal. Yuko taught us sushi at a sushi party we hosted recently. She set up our dining table beautifully with cutting boards, bamboo mats, sushi serving plates and numerous varieties of sashimi and vegetables. We started off with spicy crunchy tuna rolls which were my husband's favorite. Yuko demonstrated the rolling techniques for the group and then gave each of us personal tips and instructions. To our delight we were all able to make the rolls without them falling apart! Next we made California rolls with lots of vegetables which were quite refreshing. However, my favorite was the inside-out salmon roll. It tasted even better than it looked! Overall, it was a fantastic social event and unique dinner party with my husband and several of our closest friends. And I'm excited that my husband now can make sushi for me anytime I want! I found this class online by looking at these Yelp reviews and let me tell you...they didn't lie! Yuko provided a sushi making experience like none other. She was warm, attentive, extremely knowledgeable, hospitable, cleanly and patient. All the ingredients were of great quality, fresh and tasty. From the refreshing organic tea, to the Japanese music playing in the background, to the cool cooking tools she pulls out, to the venue's ambiance, to the fact that even after eating more sushi than I have ever eaten in my entire life ( and I eat a lot), I still had delicious leftovers to take home with me along with Japanese recipes and my own lil' bamboo rolling mat! My friends and I have Yuko over to our apartment for a private sushi class, and it was all we could have asked for. Even though none of us had ever attempted to make sushi before, by the end of our class everyone could make them with ease. We made a wide variety of sushi, so that all tastes could be accommodated, and we made a TON of sushi: I had enough leftovers to cover lunch for the next three days. The class was fairly inexpensive as well, especially considering how much food we prepared and consumed. Yuko was great to work with: patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. I am now a sushi roll master, or close to one. Yuko's class was informative and hands-on from start to finish. We learned everything from preparing the rice, fish and vegetables to where to purchase each ingredient and create the perfect roll. I just read Sarika's review above and was quite surprised. I attended a private gyoza group lesson in July and had a wonderful time. My friends and I drove up from Maryland for a ladies' weekend in NYC. We originally booked the class for May but rescheduled to July and had no trouble at all. Yuko offered to refund our payment but thankfully we were able to reschedule our trip in July and Yuko hosted the class then. It was one of the highlights of our weekend! Yuko is simply amazing! I purchased a personal sushi making class as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law, brother-in-law and niece. Yuko, answered all our questions prior to the event and asked us some questions of our likes, dislikes and any allergies. Yuko arrived early and set up everything for our class. I absolutely loved my Saturday night sushi making course with Yuko's Cooking. She did an amazing job, made me feel 100% welcome in her home, and went above and far beyond all my expectations. We made about 5 different rolls so be prepared and bring an empty stomach.
