Had MOT booked in for over 6 weeks. Have a young baby so booked it in for 10.15 on Saturday morning and we had our Christmas night out on the Friday night so I know it was 100% not booked in for 8am as we have one car and a 15 month old, hence why i booked in in weeks in advance. My husband arrived in plenty of time and was told the car had to be in at 8am. Garage refused to complete MOT but do service. Husband spent the morning going back and forth to garage. Terrible experience and wasted a Christmas weekend due to their incompetence and poor communication. Would not recommend. read more

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE THIS GARAGE! It is full of absolute clown technicians. Day light robbery and con artists!!!! Why? I was attracted with the low price MOT cost of £27. So I decided to book with them as the cheapest I could find elsewhere was minimum £45. Oh how i live to regret that decision. I soon got a call telling me they have failed my car on three pointers - windscreen blades (I agreed with), rear tyre having a nail in it (apparently), and BOTH shock absorbers had SERIOUS leaks (?). The initial cost of £175 (including MOT and Service), ended up increasing to £488!!!! £40 for blades, and £110 EACH for the shock absorbers. I was shocked (no pun intended). I was not willing to pay that price and i was very sceptical with their decision. So i opted to change the tyre only and I took the car home. Thankfully I had AA breakdown cover, so I called an engineer to have a look. When he came, he tested the shock absorbers, and told me that there was NO PROBLEM with them whatsoever, and that the technicians were blantantly lying. He said, at most the worst that could have happened is an advisory, but nowhere near any realm of possibility to fail on. He encouraged me to seek an MOT elsewhere. I decided to skip these random garages and go to my car manufacturer themselves (Vauxhall). They matched the price (£27), and charged me £15 to change the wiper blades. I just went to collect my car and it had PASSED! With absolute NO MENTION of faulty shock absorbers at all!!! And these farmers tried to charge me £220 + £40 to change them? Ridiculous Absolutley ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend these con artists to my worst enemy. There is a reason they have cheap MOT's, they just want ANY reason to sell their "services" rather than provide a truthful test! Truly disappointing in todays day and age. Great garage for MOTs and basic servicing. Really friendly staff and seem pretty honest and straight, which is a huge deal with garages! Only thing that let's them down is their turnaround time. No slower than most other garages, but when you have an MOT booked in for 11.30, you really should have had it tested before 2. That said it is much quicker than their biggest competitor. Well worth a try, their prices are really good, and if you want to wait nearby there are loads of cafes to sit in or you could chill in the meadows. read more

Last year a garage stung me with a bill of £731.93 for my MOT (since I like naming and shaming read my review of Lochrin Autos for the full story). Last week I took my car to Farmers Autocare and my total bill was less than £35 (£27.50 for the MOT plus £5 for a new light plus VAT). You certainly get your monies worth in the low price MOT, they even point out all the 'advisory' matters that may need attention in the near future but unlike other garages they do not set about loading them onto your MOT bill unless they are actual faliures. Terrible service from Farmers Auto Care Piers Hill, Edinburgh. Basically conned out ot nearly £700 . Told my car was fixed but turned out to be a near death trap. They returned it to my address with fluid leaking from engine, steering wheel squint -but front tyres straight. Don't trust them! I took my car into Farmer Autocare to have a look at the wheel bearing/ wishbones checked as they appeared to be faulty, and were still under warranty from previous work they carried out. They checked over the car and informed me it was my track rod ends instead. My car was already booked in for an MOT at a different garage so took it there for repairs where they had to replace the said wheel bearing/wishbone to get through its MOT and the track rod end was not needing replaced. Farmer Autocare claimed that the part was of high quality and not needing replaced and it was an issue. This was clearly not the case. This is a disgrace that the conned me out have having it fixed under warranty, and trying to take money for parts which did not need replacing. read more

I feel it is essential that I put right one comment I made regarding Farmers in Strathearn Road. My complaint was with regard to their attitude and information to me when I delivered my car for MOT. I was not informed that I would not get it back that same day. See previous review. However, with regards to the petrol comment, I have realized that the sensor unit in my petrol gauge is unreliable and so that particular comment should be completely disregarded. We took the car to Farmer Autocare because the back right brakes were jammed, glowing red hot and smoking. They rung to say they could see that the disk had warped, the calipers and pads needed replacing. Total bill over £700. After the repair we drove the car away and half an hour later the back right brakes were glowing red and smoking. They had changed the other three (pretending they had found serious damage) and ignored the only one where there really was a problem. When we took it back they said they could see a warped disk and serious problems with the brakes. This is not just incompetent, it is dishonest. We have taken cars to Farmer for years and this is the only time we know we were cheated. read more

Ordered 2x front tires for my Nissan GT-R. Farmer Autocrat Musselburgh attempted to fit them, but said they could not get the old tired off. They re-inflated the old tires and I had to find an alternative. I only drove the car home and left it in the garage. Overnight one tyre lost 20psi of pressure, but as a run flat, I was able to drive slowly to the garage to get the new tyres fitted. When the garage took off the old tyre, It was apparent why it had lost pressure. Farmers had damaged the bead on both tyres, but had tried to re-inflate them and let me drive away with damaged tyres. I raised this issue with Farmer Autocrat, but they were VERY dismissive and them did not respond to the pictures I sent them of the damage. I will never use them again, for both allowing me to drive away with damaged tyres (damage they cased), or for the way the just ignored the complaint. Not sure this is what Sir Tom Farmer had in mind from a business bearing his name. read more

i booked online for an mot six days in advance at the blackhall branch in edinburgh, as no actual time was given for the test the arrangement was that the branch was supposed to call me to arrange a time. this did not happen so i am not happy as mot has now expired and i have to arrange another test with another garage. back to national tyres i think ! read more

I took my car in for a replacement nearside brake caliper and the associated pads. After leaving the garage I noticed a loud knocking noise coming from the rear nearside wheel. It sounded like it was coming from the caliper, and I took the car back into Farmers to have the noised diagnosed. After spending an hour looking at the car, they were unable to identify the source of the problem, and said that there was nothing wrong with the work that they'd done. They told me I'd have to take the car to Honda to be looked at, at a cost of almost £100. I booked the car into Honda for a diagnosis and took the car home, removed the rear wheel and could see that the new brake pads were not sitting properly in the caliper. They clearly moved around when touched. I took the car to Honda who informed me that pads were the wrong size for the caliper and would need to be replaced with the correct pads. The total cost of the pads and diagnosis was £130. I took the car back to Farmers and they refunded me this charge, but this did not in any way make up for the time wasted with what should have been a very simple and noticeable issue that they had caused. read more

Low MOT price and vouchers only to try and rip you off double price for parts & fitting. Not really sure where they dug up the staff, customer service is lacking. Ofcourse don't judge the fake diplomacy, just watch your wallet. I'm sure they won't be there next year as locals catch on. read more
