The Italian birthday boy considers himself an accomplished home cook and yet even he was impressed with Chef Taylor's menu and culinary creations. By all accounts, our event was a HUGE success. We also very much appreciate Hey Chef!'s support for a local nonprofit (Truckee North Tahoe Emergency Warming Center). Without small businesses like Hey Chef! (who support local non-profits) the world would be much more complicated and unduly difficult for the less fortunate. I wholeheartedly recommend HeyChef! for those special occassions where you loosen your budgetary restraints a bit in order to create lasting memories. Highlights of our overpriced meal included shrimp that was so rubbery we didn't know if it was shrimp, a sludge of mixed vegetables that were seemingly from a can, rice that was pre-made and reheated, corn overcooked, and steak that was like rubber and well done with no flavor. This professionally trained chef also shared that the salad dressing (the only edible portion of the meal) is easy to make, "just hidden valley ranch packet mixed with chipotle. The empanadas are also easy to make, just buy frozen pastry dough and put corn and meat in". Tortillas were out of a bag, and the guac and sour cream served out of paper bowls that we supplied. That price doesn't include plates or even a cocktail or wine? We requested a tres leche cake, which he pulled out of a box and told us he ordered from a bakery. Of course there is some value to this individual showing up, but frankly he should have been paid as a middle man, not a chef. The final icing on the cake was the knock on the door 10 minutes after he left to remind us we needed to tip him directly and not through the company or he doesn't see a dime of it, something seems weird there...??? We appreciated the transparency before even having to reach out to them and were thrilled to find that they were available to cater our event. We started out with only a very rough guess-timate of the number of attendees as we were waiting on more RSVPs. As You Wish always responded promptly to our e-mails and was very flexible in the weeks leading up to the date as we adjusted the menu and amount of the order. Seeing as we would be busy with the rehearsal before the welcome dinner, we opted to have them deliver directly to the park instead of us picking it up as originally planned. Despite the obscure location, they arrived with all the food still piping hot and helped with the set-up of our "buffet table". The guests raved about As You Wish's BBQ! (Our family members who were originally hesitant about having catered BBQ were pleasantly surprised.) Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection.
