It is still 5 stars here. They have been here as long as I can remember, opening early at 5AM for breakfast, and close at 9PM. Although there is a huge selection of items on the menu I always seem to get the large catfish dinner that comes with two sides. The fish is cooked fresh and the large serving size fills you up. I can say the brown beans and corn bread are a good choice for a side.

Service was good as always, but my chicken livers were raw inside. Someone needs to have a talk with the cooks....

They failed to provide me with biscuits. Bacon was over cooked. Hash browns were fried potatoes seasoned with butter.

I find that happens more frequently in smaller towns--in this case: Whitesville, KY! A colleague and I left a meeting for work in the area, and we had about an hour to get to our next stop. We both enjoy local finds, so I asked if there was anything in Whitesville, as she is a native of the area. Her first reaction was to laugh. Then, she recalled Kelly Rae's. I whipped the car around and pulled in. When we walked in, time seemed to stop. We were first-timers, and most everyone else there seemed to be regulars. No employees were up front, so after awkwardly standing for a moment, we decided it was okay to have a seat. Shortly thereafter, a server brought us menus and took our drink orders. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but there is plenty of space. It is truly a diner--with breakfast selections and lunch options. Dinner is on Friday and Saturdays only, with special written on a chalkboard. (Frog legs were highlighted on my trip here.) I opted for a BLT and fried pickles. I was impressed with both. I wasn't given choices for bread; it was served on white. The bacon was cooked extremely well; I was impressed. I'm also a fried pickle snob. There were LOTS of them on my plate, and they were also good! Fried pickles are one of my favorite foods, and these met my high expectations. There aren't many healthy options (lots of greasy, fried foods here), and service is a little slow--you are living in the country after all. However, prices are SUPER inexpensive, and the food is good!!! It's a shame this wasn't on Yelp before for others to find, but I hope this will bring in a few new folks. Just expect to get a few looks. ;)
