After seeing multiple optometrists and eye specialists, in different States (and countries) for a…read moreserious eye condition, I saw Dr Umbel. Due to loss of vision over the years, the visit was to determine whether I vision could be corrected enough with eyeglasses (which previous doctors had not been able to do properly). For the first time, I had someone who took extra, extra time to help with a prescription for glasses that helped me finally function again! She understood the complexities of the eye conditions being dealt with, which included environmental components and Lyme infection. She was patient, understanding and quite knowledgeable. Even though my insurance did not cover the latest visit with Fick Eyecare, I chose to pay out of pocket due to the positive experiences with Dr Umbel. I highly recommend her and appreciate her abilities, patience, friendliness.

Will definatly not be returning here…read more To start, we went in person to make my daughter her yearly appointment, confirming, IN PERSON, to make sure they still took CHIPS, as not all eye doctors do. We had gone here last year for her, but still wanted to comfirm as things change. They comfirmed they did still take CHIPS. We made the appointment, there in the office, and my husband requested off so we didn't have to bring all the kids into the office. The day before the appointment we get a text message saying we had to pay full price, as the doctor in the office she was scheduled with did not take CHIPS....the other doctor did. Which is why we comfirmed in the first place, in person, when we made the appointment. We had to reschedule on a diffrent day with the doctor who would accept CHIPS. Wasted day off for my husband. CHIPS pays for 1 eye exam a year, fully. Get to the office, waited 45 minutes to be seen, eye emergency, which happens, of course. But, the doctor spent 5 minutes with my daughter, flipping through the exam quickly, never even having her read a line correctly before saying "ok" and moving on. He then said her eyes were way worse than before, wrote the script, and we were charged $40 (which CHIPS is supposed to pay, so confused on why the extra?) and were told on top of that if we had a CHIPS plan with a co pay we'd be billed seperatly for anything else owed... Get home and my husband was unaware she wanted a contact prescription, not just glasses. They were never even asked what they were wanting, or my daughter would've spoke up. Failure on us there, but wish they'd of asked and not just assumed. My doctor asks what I am there for... We call and the say bring her back in, but we will owe $60 extra for the contacts prescription. Now at $100, plus whatever CHIPS pays them, and then any potentional Co-Pays? Ok, sucks but it is what it is. Once we go back and they realize it's her first time with contacts...now it's another $40 for them to show her how to use them. So an extra $100 on top of the $40 we just paid!? And they can't teach her to use them today, we'd have to come back another day for that. We just left. Now I can't trust the prescription I have for her glasses, as he spent no time with her and never even let her read a line right before moving on? She gets 1 appointment a year which is wasted, and we are out the $40 because I cannot trust the prescription he wrote. I will go to my normal eye doctor, as a non-insurance self pay is way cheaper! $140 what I have to pay them plus whatever you bill CHIPS and potential co-pays? For a simple eye appointment? That's insane! Horrible experience and wouldn't recommend.
