Went into his office for Family help, and all he did was tell me I needed to be on medication while I pleaded I just needed straighten things up with the people I was having problems with. repeatedly called me a narcissist and the only justification he had as to why he thought he knew my life better than I, was pointing at his plaques on the wall. I reluctantly agreed to medicinal intervention as he kept trying to push medication on me. Two months after going to therapy, still no medication. When I asked what was going on, and where the meds he was so eminently trying to get me on were, there was never a direct answer. I later discontinued services under suspicion that he was feeding offices patients with no real desire to actually help. This guy is an absolute joke, who clearly lost his vision to positively assist those in need. Under no circumstances would I recommend going here. read more

I have been "troubled" my entire adult life. I am now 69. I have seen more then one professional in my lifetime. Dr. Karimi is the absolute best. He actually spends time with you getting to know you. He will chatter until he discovers something that has your interest. Once the discovers that subject he will discuss that. After we have had our "discussions" he has changed my medications (or not). Being the professional that he is, he knows it is necessary to get to understand his patients as individuals to provide the best treatment. By conversing with his patients he has a more accurate understanding of "whats going on inside"; since, we as patients may not be able to accurately express feelings. The mind is a "mysterious thing" so to speak. He is very good at resolving those "mysteries". He is not like the majority of psychiatrists I have seen, who just shove some pills at you and then send you on your way. Counter to what others have stated in their criticism, he does not think he is God. I cannot understand why she would make such scurrilous accusations. Also, as the science of psychology has proven that, in most cases, medications are the best way to control the deleterious effects associated with a "troubled mind". Providing such medications is the primary purpose of psychiatrists at this point in history. For other forms of treatment, such as talk therapy, people see a psychologist. Unfortunately, I do have to concur with the other commentators, that his office staff isn't very good. The staff often seems confused. The people behind the counter change frequently, so I suspect a high "turnover" rate. In the past, one might wait hours to see him when one has an appointment. However in the last two years that situation has greatly improved. Now the wait time may be only 15 minutes to a half-hour. All in all, I highly recommend him. As a doctor I would give him five stars. I deducted one star because of his staff. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Karimi 16 years. He is hands down the best doctor I have ever seen. I have problems tolerating certain medications and he worked diligently with me to find the right medications for my needs. He takes as much time with you that you need in order to address your problems and concerns. As a result, waiting times can sometimes be very long, but for me he is well worth the wait. read more

Doctor Karimi has been my Doctor for over 25 years. He is the most caring and knowledgeable Psychiatrist i have ever met. He takes the time with you and listens patiently. Do you have to wait longer than usual at times to see him yes. Every minute I wait to see him is worth it. He truly cares about his patients. There will never be another Doctor like him. This doctor kept overdosing my child with medication that led him to go to the hospital. I am happy that we found UIC medical centers. I recommend their mental health program to adults and child. I did receive good advise there and our doctor works close with us. I do not miss the wasted time I spent in the doctors office. That's why appointments are made! JFlip read more

You may have an appt for 11am but will not see the doctor until 10pm or even 1am! He thinks meds are the answer to all of life's problems and that he is God. He talks about himself more than anything, including listening to you. His office staff is rude, hanging up on patients, not calling back and overcharging. I was charged for not showing up for appts that were not even made, bills were never sent to my house and then they would all of a sudden tell me I owed them over $300. I would then look through my insurance records and do the math and come back with check numbers and actual records indicating what I actually owed and no one would then let me pay my actual bill because they didn't want me to be able to get the money I didn't owe taken off. This office is run horribly. I would give zero stars if I could. Don't waste your time. My father drove me to an appointment and after waiting for 4 hours he approached the receptionist to ask when I'd be seen. She could not give a straight answer. My father explained that we had somewhere else to be and she informed him that I'd be charged for a no-show if I could not be present when Dr. Karimi was ready to see me. Dad pointed out that my appointment was at 11 (it was 3:00) and we had not only shown up, but had waited in the cramped area with several other disgruntled patients. She refused to admit any responsibility on their behalf for the problem. He became frustrated and expressed his opinions that the place is horribly run, that scheduling 15 minutes appointments is obviously not a responsible practice when appointments regularly last 45 minutes or more owing to Dr. Karimi's talkativeness, that patients should not be penalized for their mismanagement, and that an apology would be nice. At this point Dr. Karimi emerged from his office and diagnosed my father as bipolar. He tried to write him a prescription for lithium when I was eventually seen at 4:30. I found a new psychiatrist after this experience. read more

Good doctor, terrible appointment setting you might have to wait 5 to 6 hours to be taken care of, stay away if time is important for you.

When i first met Dr Karimi I thought he was wonderful. I was a little upset that we waited about an hour to finally be seen, but I understand and love the fact that he spends time with his pts and doesnt rush. He was very kind and caring, and seemed to be the real help I had been searching for for my teenage daughter.......BUT then he schedules her for her second visit. HE HIMSELF wrote on the appointment card that he handed to me 11:45 am. SO, the day of the appt, my husband gives up working overtime to stay home with our toddler, I (who work midnight shift) give up on getting sleep for that morning, AND I pull my daughter out of school to go to this appt...again that Dr Karimi scheduled us for. We walk in the office at 11:45 to be told" Oh the Dr doesnt even walk in the door until 5 pm." " This is just the way the Dr does it- he will give you an early appt time, but you have to wait until 4 pm to call and find out what time you can come in" WHAT????!! This was so obsured I really thought it was a joke! First of all WHO DOES THIS?! Why would he tell me to come to an appt at 11:45 when he knows damn well he wont even come into the office until 5pm!! And the office staff was so rude just saying'well someone shouldve told you about it-this is the way he's done it for years. Well, HE HIMSELF couldve been courteous enough to explain this screwed up way of running his office when HE handed me an appt time that DID NOT EXIST! So, then I go ahead and call after 4pm. The woman tells me ok you can come in at 7:30. Well, knowing how long we will wait, and the fact that I have to leave for work at 9 pm, there was no way I could come in at that time. So she says, ok well I put down that you have to miss this appt, and well, hes booked up for another month. So, now Im wondering if they are going to charge me the fee for a misse appt, when i did in fact come for my appt at 11:45 when i was told that was my appt time. So the real kicker is when I said well can i just leave a message for Dr Karimi to call me. I cant wait another month to talk to him about the medication he put my daughter on, I have some questions and some real concerns. The very rude woman on the phone says" Oh he wont call you. He doesnt do that." She says" you can leave a message but he'll just have me call you back, he doesnt talk to his pts on the phone." Again I say WHAT?! What Psychiatrist refuses to speak to his pts on the phone, and not return phone calls?! Is this really true of him or is it just his extremely rude office staff giving me the run around? I will never know because I cant get in touch with the man!! So he puts my teen daughter on some potentially dangerous medications for the Bipolar diagnosis he had given her, and then if I have concerns about i=how it is affecting her I cant just call and talk with him? Oh my Lord! I thought he was wonderful, but maybe I was just foled my his charisma. And now i even question his diagnosis he gave my daughter. I mean. if this is how he runs his office, then I have absolutely no faith in him as a doctor!! read more
