I asked the dispatcher if she could give me a fixed rate or minimally a quote: She wouldn't. For me, a woman coming from out of town, it did not give me the assurance I needed that, things would go well, if I couldn't be given the courtesy of a fixed rate or minimally, a quote up front. That lack of transparency was a big red flag. I crossed them off my list. I then called Coastal Cab and spoke with Adam, the dispatcher. I asked him for a fixed rate and he said, "Of course," and guaranteed the ride would cost $50 from the Del Cerro neighborhood to the airport. I made the reservation and called about 30 minutes before my pick-up time, just to ensure I was on their list for a ride at that time and he assured me I was and the driver showed up exactly at the requested time. The cab (a Prius) was clean and the driver (Jamal) was friendly, a good listener and most importantly, reliable and safe. It seems to me that it's rare these days to have such an experience of competence and ease with making arrangements with a new business, but Adam and Jamal made things seamless for me. I will absolutely call Coastal Cab in the future, next time I'm in San Diego and need a lift.

Except I made a mistake with the original pick up time. I put 2:45 AM vs PM. My fault. I had a very hard time getting ahold of anyone. (Email on website didn't work) calling they told me to email this was 15 minutes or less after booking. Finally I called the next morning and got someone. Luckily they were able to change it for me. Skip to day of arrival. Of course our connecting flight was delayed. I messaged city captain to let them know we were going to be later than expected. Our original driver still showed up at the normal time and asked where we were. I told them that I contacted the company and the rescheduled for A little later. He told me to call him when we were out of baggage claim. In the meantime, I got a message that a different driver was on their way to pick us up at the new anticipated time. I let them know our original driver was waiting for us. I didn't hear anything back, so I Joe they cancelled that driver. We finally got picked up and dropped off at our hotel. Phew! The driver was super friendly and understanding when we apologized about the situation. Fast forward to scheduled pick up from hotel to be take to the airport at 4 Am. I was texted at 3:30 that our driver was on the way. I stood outside of the hotel until 4:05 when I called and said "hey we were supposed to be picked up at 4 and our driver isn't here" I don't think they remembered. You could see their car on the map that was not driving. Shortly after my call it started moving. 20 minutes late our driver showed up. Luckily we were able To navigate through the airport quickly to make our flight. I am not sure if these issues are normal? We have scheduled Ubers before at 4 AM and have never had an issue. So It's weird that with a premium car service this would happen. I don't know. Everyone we had Contact with was friendly though.

He gave me his business card and I promised him that I would repay his kind service with a decent review here. I drove into San Deigo from the Los Angele area to attend the last day of Comic-Con 2013. When I arrived at the convention center area, my car started to over heat. I was alone, and thanks to my iPhone, I was able to find a Pep Boys that would be able to look at my car on a Sunday. While waiting for my car feeling very distraught and worried about costs and getting back home, I decided that since it was so difficult to purchase my Comic-Con pass, and it was my first time attending, that I would call a taxi to take me to the convention area. I found Secure Taxi on Yelp and called, and they quoted me the fare price. The driver, Dan, promptly arrived at the Pep Boys and proceeded to drive me to the downtown area, gettng me as close as the massive traffic jams from the convention would allow him. On the way Dan was very empathetic about my predicament with my car and made me, a stranger in the city, feel very comfortable and relived that I would not miss the Con. Dan was also shared with me his past experience with the city and with traffic for this massive convention. Dan was a very kind and careful, driver and I only wished that I could have gotten him for the ride back to Pep Boys. I gave him a decent tip and thanked him for his friendly service.

He was prepared for our needs related to luggage and timing for our international flight. We had arranged for pickup on our return to San Diego. Again, Rudy was right there as we stepped up to the curb, totally prepared as before.
