My girls are absolute ambassadors of OKS, as I see the totality of what Oak Knoll offers, in them. The teachers and faculty are like family, the care they exude is ever so natural and nurturing. Don't get me started on the academics. In the lower school, the classes are interwoven. I was actually intrigued to learn that in the sixth grade for instance, as the origin of the golden ratio was being taught in math class, the students were also being shown how it was applied to the Mona Lisa painting in their Arts class, it's application in the Renaissance era in Social Studies, and there was reference to the concept in Science, and even in the library classes. My sixth grader was absolutely fascinated relating her experience. As for the nurturing environment, you can sense the importance of core values in the school, it only takes one visit to feel it in the air. The students are also exposed to practical religious tenets, helping those in need, etc. I honestly cannot say enough about Oak Knoll. There was an issue with bullying in one of my child's class this year. The issue was handled in great form and everything was much better afterwards. Bullying will happen. But Pingry dealt with it fairly and gracefully. Our experience with the Pingry community is one of positivity, support, excellent educational opportunities, amazing and dedicated teachers & administration...I can't say anything bad about this wonderful school! It's a privilege to attend a school like this, but it's not a school of privileged children. They are an ethnically diverse, socio-economically diverse, and religiously diverse community with a lot to offer children of all ages.

The teachers really push the kids to excel in their academics. They have a nice mixture of academics and athletics. School meals gave changed to healthier choices and served fresh daily. Parking lot is also used for the kids to play and their is also a toddler lot in the front of the school. The parent association has strived to make things better for the students and are trying to improve communications with the parents on school and fundraising activities. My son has entered kindergarten and has shown dramatic changes in a month of attending. I highly recommend you send your children here for a quality education.

Newark offers the international baccalaureate (IB) degree. It is a mysterious degree that the…read moreschool brags about that they use to claim they are a high level academic achieving degree. There are many problems with the IB program. The easiest problem to demonstrate is that IB classes and exams can only be taken in only in the junior and senior year. There are many amazingly academic students that must wait until junior year to take the IB exam. If you look internet you will see many smart student question this policy. Are all student homogeneous? Do all student suddenly become smart at the same time? The school had tried to get rid of all AP exams but have failed in many areas. The most notable is math. There are many kids taking AP calculus in middle school and quite a few finish both AP calculus exams in middle school. The school could not also get rid of AP history. AP history is done in the sophomore year. After further review the science depart felt that AP Physic C was more rigorous than IB Physic HL. There were problems with the Econ SL class that the econ teacher created a Econ honor class to replace it. Unfortunately all other AP classes have been banished from newark. At one time classes were designated as hybrids AP/IB classes. This allows many of its students to achieve AP national scholar status which requires the a student to pass for AP exams with a score of 4 or above. IB is also very expensive compared to AP for the school. The school tuition is outrageously expensive. IB program is contributing to this outrageous high tuition.

This isn't the greatest high school as it is very small and out of date. They have heating problems…read morethroughout the school where some rooms could be 100 degrees while others are 40 degrees. The outside of the high school is also like a jungle with the new garden they put in. The only decent thing about the school is the nice turf field complex but that is pretty much it.

This is difficult to do in any school but SHP teaches that "your SHP brothers are actually family. It is obvious that the students have true concern for one another (even if they don't know that brother personally). Alumni seem to feel so much like SHP was their home that they never forget about the brotherhood & continue to introduce themselves if they see anything that makes them feel like the student or adult must have some tie to the school. There are so many clubs & sports available. Students have so many different types of opportunities to find "their tribe". The students truly enter as boys and leave as self confident educated men. The education is second to none with many different areas of study. The discipline must be just right b/c the boys all are well mannered, decent people that learn very quickly how to advocate for themselves. In addition, they are required to learn & participate in volunteer work yearly by assisting their fellow man with no judgement. Their values become incredibly strong. It is truly a wonderful school for boys from various economic & demographic parts of the world. I highly recommend it.

From the outside there doesn't seem to be much to be impressed with but , alas, "don't judge this book by it's cover". The moment you are buzzed through the doors and are greeted by Miss Denise you begin to understand what separates Crossroads from the rest-THE PEOPLE!!! You feel the love the moment you walk in. It's genuine. The staff to student ratio is close to 1/1.The administration and faculty do so much of the heavy lifting for the parents it"s impossible to thank them properly.The Teachers , Aides, Therapists, Administrators, Maintenance workers and volunteers alike put Crossroads above and beyond all others. As a parent of a Special Needs child I''ll be forever grateful for and awe-struck by the Crossroads family. They turned what began as a devastating blow and utter despair into progress , possibilities and hope . There aren't enough stars to award.
