I am only revising my stars based on the teachers and Director at the former Greatstart Denville location.

Picking and choosing their enrolled children? Or are they racist?…read more Advance warning - long post I am (or use to be) a huge Goddard School fan. My first born went to two Goddard Schools, in #NorthBrunswickGoddardSchool and #BranchburgGoddardSchool. As I was expecting my second born, I obviously turned to one as well which is near my work. Also a current co-worker has one of there children currently enrolled and soon to be expecting her second one soon. So with no question asked, my husband and I (with another co-woker) went to take a tour of this facility. We were looking for January/February (2018) enrollment but was told there was a waiting list and the next availability would be in March 2018. I asked if there is anything we could do to ensure our spot for March, and was told by the owner Laura that taking a tour would put our name on the wait list automatically, nothing else needed. I went above and beyond with my work to get a delay start of March so my New Born could go to the Goddard school as preferred. I recently called at the end of November to ensure my son's guaranteed spot for March was still available. First, I spoke with the director, who was very standoffish on the phone. She informed me there wasn't any spots available until April 2018 now. I was SHOCKED! I had asked for the director, Laura who at that time was not available. Few days later, I had called back to speak with her and left her a msg. She left me a voice mail, stating "my director had informed you about everything already, if you are still unsure give me a call back." She's lucky that I did not hear that voicemail until I had called her back already, otherwise she would have gotten a piece of my mind. When I called back, Laura informs me that the next availability is early Spring, once I asked what that means she says Early May!!! I was very disappointed. Still keeping my composure, I had asked how is that possible and when was anyone going to inform me about this change..? I had sacrificed my maternity leave to ensure my son had a spot in March. She stated during the time of the tour that they would contact us when a spot was available a deposit was not needed because the tour was sufficient. The story changed when I inquired further. She explained that we do not call to let you know, if you want to ensure your spot, you need to put in a deposit." I was stunned! I told her that this is new and this information was not told. I continued on by saying that I had specifically asked her about a deposit and had brought my checkbook as well to make one. Her response was, "I apologize if you did not understand me, but this is how we have been doing it for past 23 years, this is nothing new." (talk about customer service people!) Biting my tongue and keeping my chin in mind, I had asked her if she could email me the enrollment paperwork since I wanted to have a guaranteed spot for next availability, I would try to drop it off or drop it in the mail with check etc. Now, 24 hours later, the next day, I have NOTHING! Not a single paperwork in my email inbox. Later that day, I had confirmed with both my husband and my co-woker who went with us to confirm if I was having a Pregnancy Brain and totally misunderstand her during the tour of having a spot available in March and tour is sufficient enough OR she did NOT mention any deposit? Both confirmed my understanding. So clearly Laura, you had provided me with wrong info and two other people confirms it. To make this even more interesting, my co-worker whom I recommended this place to, took a tour, and during the tour, she was asked to make a deposit. Now, her New Born has a guaranteed spot for March. As you can imagine, this is why I feel we are being ignored and purposely not provided a spot, interestingly enough, both of my co-workers are White. During the tour, I had noticed very little to hardly any minorities in the entire school. In the current New Born Classroom, there were zero minorities! And they are clearly going above and beyond to not only be very unprofessional, and providing me with wrong information to me just to ensure that my mixed African -American/ Asian child would not get into this facility. SHAME ON YOU #GODDARDSCHOOLPISCATAWAY. SHAME ON YOU #Goddardschool!

I saw this one and another close by, so I had my mother visit before I moved up. This was my mother's choice and when I talked to the owner, this was my choice as well. The owner, Ms. Cheryl, made me feel so welcome and I just knew she would take care of my son like her own. You could feel the love oozing out of her. She's also a mother and knows what mothers feel. She's done a great job of keeping me abreast of the daily activities the kids' are doing and what they're learning. Over the past year, I've seen her bend over backwards for these little kids and even the parents at times. My son can now count beyond measures, write his name and is reading a few words. He's made some great friends and loves his teachers. It's tucked away from the road and attached to a church. This also made me feel good because it's enclosed and the kids have their own gated play area. If you want to feel the love and know your kid(s) are being nurtured, being them here.

The owner Miss Cheryl was a God-send to us when we took in two foster children (two and three years old) this past year. Miss Cheryl was one of the few constants for our beautiful foster children during a time of a lot of uncertainty and instability in their lives. She also became a great support and friend to us as their foster parents. Miss Cheryl works hard to create a warm and welcoming daycare where every child is valued and loved. She loves all of the children in her care so well, and they love her! We would highly recommend Precious Gifts Daycare to anyone, and especially foster parents, as Miss Cheryl has a wealth of experience working with foster children.

This is a little long, but I think it's worth sharing with other parents. When I picked my son up from aftercare, his face was covered in dried snot and the staff didn't mention it at all. As we were leaving, my son told me he hit his head and that it hurt. I looked at his forehead and noticed a bruise and felt a knot. I was honestly so focused on how much dried snot was on his face that I didn't noticed it until he said something. I immediately went back to ask the staff what happened but nobody could tell me anything. They said they weren't aware of any incidents. What made the situation worse was how the director responded. He kept downplaying the injury. He also insisted that nothing happened because the staff hadn't seen anything. But there's a big difference between saying you didn't see something happen and saying nothing happened, especially when my child is telling me he hit his head and I can SEE it. I asked what their process was for documenting injuries that nobody witnessed and he told me they typically don't document those situations but could write up a report. I wasn't trying to blame anyone. I understand that toddlers fall and get hurt. I just wanted to know how something like this could go unnoticed and what we could do moving forward to make sure there was better communication. Instead the conversation became defensive. He even suggested that my son could have gotten hurt after pickup despite me explaining that we were walking down the driveway when he told me about his head and I immediately went to speak with the staff still on site. I asked for the incident report after our conversation but didn't receive it until three days later after following up multiple times. When I finally got it, there were several things that were either incorrect or left out completely. For starters the report didn't mention that my son told me he hit his head and that it hurt. It also left out the knot I had repeatedly told the director about. After I withdrew my son and asked for a tuition refund, the director told me he would mail my refund for the month. Instead, he showed up at my house unannounced without calling or checking with me first, waited at the door for me to answer and then left the refund in my mailbox. That was inappropriate and made me really uncomfortable especially considering how everything had unfolded. There was no reason he couldn't have mailed it like he said he would or simply asked me to pick it up. I do want to say that my son's regular daytime teachers were wonderful. They were attentive, caring, and always communicated with me. I genuinely appreciated them and felt that they cared about the children. My concerns are really with the aftercare program and the center's leadership. The most disappointing part of all of this is that I was willing to work through the situation. I wasn't expecting perfection or looking to point fingers. I just wanted honest communication, some reassurance, and to feel confident that my child's safety and well-being were being taken seriously. I left feeling like the director was more concerned with defending the center's reputation than actually listening to my concerns and figuring out how to make things right. If you're considering CKA, I'd encourage you to ask questions about aftercare, how injuries are handled and documented, and how the director responds when parents raise concerns. Having great teachers is important, but so is having leadership you can trust when something goes wrong.

The center is unique because of its hospital affiliation providing high quality training to the educators and nurturing care to all children. It is also NAEYC accredited. The center is open all year round except for major holidays and provides before and after care programs. Each classroom has certified teachers and aids who provide exceptional care from infancy to kindergarten and offer camp in the summer. Currently, two of my children are enrolled in the child care center and this past June my oldest graduated from kindergarten. My youngest is currently enrolled in the infant classroom. The supervising teacher Debi ( baby whisperer) and all her staff are AMAZING and help foster a nurturing, loving and safe environment for my baby. When my baby started daycare she would not sleep in a crib at home and only slept in a recliner, Debi and her staff transitioned her to sleep in a crib in ONE week. I can't thank them enough! The child center also helped facilitate toilet training with my first and second children, I couldn't do it without their help. The child center also offers recreational activities such as ballet, hip hop dance, soccer, tennis, computers and swimming which my girls enjoyed very much. They also go on field trips to an apple orchard, Liberty Science Center, and to see a Play. The facility is very clean and safe and the office staff ( Helen, Marie, Anna, Anitha and director/principle Dr. Avonia Richardson-Miller) are always so helpful and pleasant and have always adressed any concerns I had. The kindergarten program is one -of-a-kind, the teacher Miss Erin is amazing!!! She is so passionate about teaching and she engages her students, making learning enjoyable and fun. Miss Erin has provided a great foundation for my daughter, and because of her, my daughter is confident and has excelled as a student. Miss Erin is the most organized and talented teacher you will ever meet . I would highly recommend KWJ for kindergarten to every parent. The staff is dedicated to providing high quality child care services. I always felt my kids were in great hands; greatly cared for in a loving and nurturing environment. The staff at KJW are like family who have had such a great impact on my children's lives . God bless the all for such excellent care.

I've been a member for about 4-5 years and can report both good and bad…read more The good: Great community vibe, staff are all very friendly and want to help. My son was in the pre-K and K summer camp for the past two years and loved it (but summer 2020 might be challenging - see below). The main exercise facilities (workout equipment and gym), as well as the pool are in great shape. The bad: 1. They don't have enough swim instructors - for the past two sessions we couldn't get my son into a swim class even though we tried to sign up on the day registration opened. I'm getting furious that we're paying more than $100/month for the opportunity to not get lessons because we forgot to set our alarm to 5:00 am on a Saturday. 2. As noted by other reviewers the locker rooms are in bad shape. In particular the showers in boys' locker room are terrible - they flood all the time and EVERY TIME someone turns a shower on or off every other spigot goes from boiling to freezing, or vice-versa. I complained about this to the staff over a year ago and nothing has been done. 3. For this summer we're debating whether to send our son to another camp because the main building will be largely closed, so they're moving the camp to a local school and then busing the kids back to the Y for swim class. I'm sure they have their reasons and are doing the best they can but based on the published schedule it appears kids will spend about hour/day being schlepped back and forth - that adds up to almost a week's worth of camp if you add up nine weeks.
