Awesome and unique orchids but super poor customer service. I walked in and wasn't acknowledged by several people and walked around for 10 min., walking by workers, but no one even asked if I had questions or needed help. The front desk person was talking to someone socially the whole time. I ended up just walking out but would have loved having some kind of interaction. read more

This is such a magical place. I never seen such a huge selection of orchids in Denver or for that matter, during my time in the south. The staff are super helpful and will give you great advice on care and maintaining your plants. They have an additional program where you can bring your orchids previously purchased from them to turn in for a discount on a new one. When one has finished blooming I bring it in for a new one, knowing they will take care to bring the previous one back to bloom for someone else to enjoy later. They have strict policy of no orchids from other vendors. I appreciate that they are taking care of their stock and also ensuring that no infected plants get into the mix. Like so many places I end up adoring, Fantasy Orchids is entirely unremarkable from the outside. Even after walking through the front door, it still inspired little awe. They have some small plant displays, then hard goods like planters, fertilizers, media, and so forth, but once through the shop area, you reach a most magnificent greenhouse! Only see a small portion of it is visible from the exterior, so you really do not know what you're getting into until you enter. Sooooo many orchids! They move the majority of blooming orchids to the front, and we were immediately drawn to enormous cattleyas in a rainbow of colors, many wafting their gorgeous perfume through the air. I was specifically seeking phragmipedium and pahiopedilums, and they did not have quite as many as I would have hoped, but then again, more than I have ever seen elsewhere, and these are less in-demand varieties. There were a couple employees about, but one young lady in particular was incredibly friendly and helpful. She allowed us to wander at our leisure, but every so often would come by with a particularly pretty specimen she happened upon, or, overhearing a conversation about a specific orchid, would suggest beauties with similar appearances or attributes. Just as we were about to leave, we discovered a gorgeous display of award winning orchids of every sort! It was breathtaking, and housed in a large section of mostly roped off "sold" plants. This would be my only complaint about Fantasy, as it was disappointing to see so many dazzling orchids that were not available. Even so, we could have left with an armful, but limited ourselves to two. Now, a month later, the dendrobium that I chose has shot out a spike! Both of our selections are healthy and happy, and I would absolutely recommend Fantasy to any orchid enthusiasts, or even just lovers of plants in general. Prices are in line with similar stores (not that I have ever shopped anywhere quite like this!): anywhere from $15-$50, depending on the variety. We spent a good hour here, and beyond the wonder of a world of orchids, it was lovely to enjoy the light and warmth of a cozy greenhouse in winter. read more

Super cute little place tucked behind a car wash!! Delightfully humid and earthy smelling, with soft Hawaiian music playing in the background transported me to the tropics of Hawaii. Aloha! This gloomy day I came with my cousin to attend a free orchid growing class. I've always wanted to know how to keep my plants blooming in dry, arid Colorado. The owner's son Kent was a wealth of information and so gracious and kind. He obviously enjoys what he does! The class was small today, but we learned great stuff on how to grow and care for these exotic plants. Touring the grounds after the class was so delightful and nurturing to my gardener soul, and I ended up buying two plants, growing medium, fertilizer and decorative pots. I highly recommend this place for orchid lovers everywhere!! read more

Fantasy Orchids makes me feel like I've landed in the most beautiful jungly greenhouse ever. They have a ridiculous selection of orchids for sale and are happy to walk you through their selection. I've always had good service and the staff has corrected any problem I've had. After one of the trips I made I realized that the dendrobium I purchased had spider mites. I get it, bugs happen, but I'm not bringing it into my house to infect my other plants. It was after business hours so I called and left a message. I had to call again the next time they were open, but they let me return the orchid as I discovered the issue an hour after I bought it. read more

I visited Fantasy Orchids a few days ago for the first time with my mother to take a look at the selection. I had previous experience keeping orchids in subtropical climates, and I love the flower, so I decided to take the challenge of learning to keep them in-state. I ended up purchasing a Phal. And den. Orchid, both of which were $32, each. While Fantasy wasn't super well staffed, the woman that was present and interacting with customers was incredibly helpful both with providing information and helping us pick out the right supplies, when she was available to help (she was being run all over the place, she wasn't hiding from anyone). She actually didn't like the appearance of the Phal. I originally chose, so she found another, similar looking one for me. That woman is the salt of the earth and I treasure her, especially because I worry how much worse off that other plant would've been. I found two respective spots in my homes for our new babies, and both were happy enough, it seemed, from the last couple of days--at least enough so to show me some new blooms. There were a couple questions I had about repotting, as well as the preferred treatments for common pests (I wanted to care for them in the exact ways Fantasy Orchids had), so I did reach out over the phone the day after my purchase and left a message. They mention they're low staffed on their answering machine, which is kind of par for the course nowadays, so I don't really take issue with that. Now, they didn't get back to me (again, not what I'm taking issue with) and thankfully there's an entire internet and forums of information to help me guide my own review, and I would say until this point my experience had been very good. What's unfortunately soured it, for me, was when I went to water my orchids for the first time and I noticed just how *bad* my new Phal. orchid has root rot. I couldn't hold off on repotting my Phal. after seeing how bad it was and what I thought would be an easy $32 plant quickly seems to have become a rehab. Thankfully, I'd already purchased all their other care supplies. I've had to remove maybe 25% of its roots, and I'm seriously concerned about the life of the plant (thankfully, it was already starting to grow new roots, so we'll see. I'll probably lose blooms, though). I wish I had photos of the root rot before I repotted, but I do have photos of the roots I removed. Almost every root had a piece of rotten tissue on it, whether it be smack dab in the middle of it or towards the ends (for those of you who noticed that bit of living tissue, it wouldn't have been alive much longer as it had rotting roots further up as well as at the end) Should I have examined much more closely to take care of myself? Probably, yeah. I thought I'd done thorough enough inspection and I was proven wrong. Did I expect this reputable of a business that made the time to be exclusively dedicated to orchids to overcharge me for a sick plant? No, but what's important is I've learned my lesson, and now you all know to do some research before you come and look out for these kinds of things. I find this especially frustrating because they have such strict policies about what kinds of plants they'll accept for their boarding/exchange programs, but won't hold those same standards for themselves when it comes to selling you plants. I can only imagine how many beginners would get screwed over by that. I have zero doubt in my mind that these people know what they're doing. Their greenhouse is absolutely gorgeous and their plants, overall, looked healthy, their staff is knowledgeable, and they also have some of the best pots for orchids I've seen. I wonder if, perhaps, they have too many plants for the number of people working there and doing husbandry tasks, because that's the only explanation for this degree of neglect that makes sense. Of course, that's all speculative. I hope for the best in Stanley's recovery, and that this was just some fluke, as well. Godspeed, everyone! read more

HORRIBLE experience! I was not told by staff of any sales policy, or is there any policy written or printed in the store or on the website. I bought an overpriced orchid that they would not let me return LESS than 24 hours after purchase! I bought it, went home, looked at it more, and was generally not happy with my purchase. I did not the damage orchid or anything at all! Manager was not on site when I went in the store the day I bought the orchid and the next day I went in to try and return it. When I told the sales person that I wanted to return it, and I also had receipt, he replied that he did not know of any return policy and called the manager or owner. He came back telling me that all sales are final and I can only have store credit or exchange the plant. I explained that I did not want either because I was going to be moving that same week (I bought the orchid in the first place as a gift for someone, not for myself, and wanted to gift a different plant that I got from another store). The sales guy then has the nerve to say, " We can't let you return it just because you found a worse plant for a cheaper price at Home Depot or something." That was so unprofessional of him! And I didn't find it at Home Depot anyway. I wanted to speak with the manager but the only way to do that was to call the store on the day he would be in. So I called the next morning, which I was told he would be in that day from the rude employee. Well, the manager was "out", so I left my phone number and asked the employee who answered (which sounded like the same guy from the day before) to have the manager call me back as soon as he gets in. I wait, and finally when it's about one hour before closing time, I call the store again (I could not go in the store as I was extremely busy packing and needed to speak with the manager, NOT a sales person, asap because I was moving in less than two days!) The same sales person answered and said the manager was still out and running late making deliveries. Honestly, why is the manager out of the store all day driving around dropping stuff off? I stressed to the sales person the importance of having the manager call me back because I was moving out of the state, and I would think the manager would come back to the store at some point before it closes. Sales person says he will tell the manager to call me. Well I still NEVER received a call that day, and not even the next day! I NEVER received ANY return call from them, not even that week. Still no call from them! I even contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge because there is no return policy ANYWHERE and I was not told of any policy. The sales person didn't even know there was one! And surprisingly, I lost the dispute! I don't understand why or how they won when there is no sales policy. Also, the first orchid I bought from them that day was cracked in the stem and I noticed it just as I walked out the door, which was then exchanged for the orchid plant that I tried returning the next day. So whether or not it just wasn't noticed by the staff, I was almost sent home with a damaged orchid in the first place. Basically, this store had only a handful of orchids in bloom (when I went), they charge double the price, and don't work with customers well or at all. You should first look into other stores, even grocery stores, not kidding! I saw some after this whole ordeal and the grocery stores had more variety, bigger plants, and at half the price with more flowers blooming/bloomed. This place probably only stays in business because they overcharge and don't give refunds! read more

I had purchased an orchid for my mother last Christmas on a whim at Home Depot. She loved it, but it ended up doing poorly over time and I've read that this happens a lot when purchased at big box stores that may not have the capacity to care for them. This year, I decided to seek out a specialist and ended up at Fantasy Orchids. The young woman behind the counter helped me to pick one out based upon my mother's color preference, a beautiful two-toned one in purple and pink. She answered all my questions regarding care and maintenance, and I came away very impressed. Their selection is great, and I felt very positive about the experience. Meh. I was underwhelmed with my visit here. Getting help was quite difficult. I asked one man for help, and he gave me curt answers which weren't very thorough, and generally seemed annoyed I had any questions, much less follow up ones. I later found out he is the owner. That is unfortunate as he has the personality of a wet noodle. I was about to leave, but Nichole showed up and saved the day. She answered all my questions, and came back to check if I had more as I wandered through the greenhouse. I found the prices for larger plants outrageous. Over $30 for a basic phalaenopsis is too much. $50 for a standard dendrobium is also crazy. Prices for smaller plants varied and were sometimes reasonable, sometimes excessive. A 2" coconut fragranced orchid was $40; a 6" from Andy's Orchids online runs about $31. It's a long drive from anywhere except Boulder, so be prepared for that. You do not receive an itemized receipt, and there is no clear return policy. When I asked about it, the owner hemmed and hawed, and refused to give me anything specific. I understand they need to protect their inventory, but they should be able to state clearly, "If you return the plant in X days we offer Y option." They do have an almost overwhelmingly quantity of plants, in a variety of sizes, so if you want a baby version or full adult, you will find it. Many of the smaller ones didn't have prices, tho. In spite of the quantity, I found the variety lacking. They offer many types within a few species, so variety within type is there. But if you're looking for something slightly more exotic than Lady Slippers, I doubt you'll find it here. In short, if you need an orchid fix right now, you will get it here. If you need a basic plant & can forego the color options, go to a grocery store & pay the lower price. Oh, Fantasy Orchids supplies many of the local nurseries, and I've found some nice orchids which include a pot for the same price as Fantasy sells them at my favorite shops. But for a basic Phalaenopsis, I go to King Soopers. For something more exotic, I order from Andy's Orchids. read more

If orchids are your thing, this place is for you. They have the huge, beautiful, single flower variety, the spidery looking ones, and the ones that smell like chocolate, yum. They keep all the blooming orchids in the main aisle so you can see all the different species. The place is super toasty and humid so if you're a homesick Floridian, you'll love it. These guys have a great variety of orchid species in bloom all year long. They have tons of species from Angraeecum to Zygopetalum. The staff is always helpful if you need it. They also know when to give you some room and just let you explore the greenhouse. I never spend less than an hour here and could easily burn a whole afternoon walking around and looking at all the beautiful blooms. read more

Staff is either hit or miss. Depends on their mood as it isn't a very large number of employees that work there. Many plants that they have are sick and you might as well just spend the money to find the exact plant with good pricing online. The Miltonia Linda Lingle I bought in spike mid March has only just finished blooming this past week. Prices are really affordable for unusual plants! Today we took a tour of Fantasy Orchids with Hoe & Hope Garden Club. It was very interesting. They have between 60k-70k plants all blooming at different times so every week you see something new. I think Kent mentioned over 400 varieties and growing from cross breeding. They have classes on replanting on 2 Saturdays per month. I thought prices were pricey $32 ish for many. But Kent explained the inexpensive ones in the stores are intended to bloom and throw away these ones cared for properly will last decades! (My grandparents orchids are over 50 years old.) Some varieties do not require as much light which explained why mine did not re-bloom and died. Watering twice a week is best. Orchids are not planted in soil. read more

Fantasy Orchids is a gem. Easily the nicest orchid greenhouse in the rocky mtn. region. Honestly I don't know of any that even come close in any of the surrounding states. You'd have to go down to a couple places in TX. or out to CA. to try and find an orchid greenhouse w/ a better selection. Species, Hybrids, in bloom or not, from near seedlings to specimen plats, there blend of potting mix, mounting supplies, vanda baskets etc. , they save me so much $, that if it wasn't for them I would have to spend on shipping and handling, cause straight up... I went in to Fantasy Orchids not knowing much about orchids and came out and expert! The staff was very generous with their time and I felt very comfortable asking all the questions that popped into my head. They were even able to show me pictures of Lady Slippers that hadn't spiked yet so I would have a good idea of what it would look like. I spent at least an hour in the green house browsing and asking questions about all the different types of orchids. We don't have many options for good orchid growers in Colorado but I only need this one. I'm very thankful to have Fantasy Orchids available for all my orchid needs. read more

I was there today, and spent a ton of time selecting a number of orchids to purchase. All of the orchids had price tags on them. When I went to pay, they raised the price on one of them from 40.00 to 60.00. They changed the price on the plant while I was waiting to pay and wouldn't honor their price on the plant. We placed an order for a bottle of fertilizer, they charged our credit card and then never shipped the product and never responded to numerous emails and phone calls. Ok, when you live in Colorado and usually have 2 real seasons, any chance to enjoy a wonderful summer day any time of year is welcome. I needed a gift and stopped here. I was greeted and taken into their amazing greenhouse. I didn't know that orchids can be scented or that orchids can bloom for months and require little care. After choosing the perfect orchid and getting a tremendous deal on an orchid pot I was on my way. Very nice orchid nursery. They have a big variety of orchids (oncidium alliance, cattleya alliance, dendrobium, Phalaenopsis, ect..) They always have a bunch of orchids in bud/spike/bloom. The staff are really nice and very helpful. It's very hot & humid, so leave your coats one the car! They also have a thing where the take care for your orchids until they bloom again. Very nice place! An orchid paradise for sure. Lot's of variety and always a ton of flowers in bloom. From floofy Cattleyas to alien flowered species, you'll find them all in fantasy orchids. The people here are very nice and know a lot. They can give you lots of advice on how to bloom you're orchid, etc. They all know it. I love orchids, and when I heard about this greenhouse in a book titled "Ageless Outings" I planned on taking a group of seniors with Alzheimer's and Dementia. We called ahead because according to this book they offer guided tours if you call in advance, when we called the person who answered was very rude and made it clear that they do not offer a guided tour. When we arrived after being in a bus for an hour (which is a very long trip for a group of seniors with dementia), many of the residents needed to use the restroom and followed signs pointing the restroom. A worker there, whom I believe to be the owner was in the office where the bathrooms were located and was very rude. He let us know that it was his office and we were not welcome. The whole time we were there nobody greeted us, and when we left a few more of the residents that I took with us had to use the restroom so I tried to keep them quiet and take them one at a time, but this time the owner was on the phone and loudly said " I can't even work because people are coming in and out of my office". At that point we were very upset and shortly after we left my coworker called and told him that she could not believe that he could be so rude to such elderly people, and that they all have Alzheimer's and dementia and I hope when he is older that people treat him with respect and kindness. He proceeded by telling her that he deals with "our kind of people all the time, and has never had any problems, and he said don't come back, before he hung up". The worst experience I have ever had bringing a group of seniors on an outing. I will never take them back and can not even put into words how hurt I was that someone who treat them with such disrespect. I hope that you choose to buy your orchids elsewhere, and not support such a business as this. read more
