Birthday boy with teachers and staff at a party on FDS premises. Personalized to circus theme, and included instructed time at dance & gym.

Not sure why this place does not have many reviews because it sure does have a community of lifelong fans, and I am one of them. My two elementary school children have been attending FDS programs for four years now, having tried pretty much every offering: Afterschool Program, Gymnastics and Dance Classes, Dance Troupe, Elite Program (dance competition team), School Break Day Camp, Overnight Camp, and even private Birthday Parties and private dance lessons. Top Reasons to Keep Going Back to FDS 1. VERSATILITY **Variety of Classes** FDS offers a wide range of classes that challenge kids creatively and physically. From various dance styles to gymnastics, judo, and art, there's something for every interest. My then-toddler thrived in a 3-hour "Saturday Enrichment Program" that included gymnastics, art, and creative dance movements. As my kids grew older, FDS provided sustainable afterschool enrichment, keeping them engaged and excited for the next year. **Variety of Proficiency Levels** FDS offers classes for beginners and experienced students of all ages. Unlike other schools with a linear path to pre-professional levels starting at preschool, FDS allows children to discover and pursue their interests at any age. This inclusive approach means a kid in elementary, middle, or high school can get introduced to a new style (i.e., hip hop or jazz or ballet) by signing up for a weekly class, explore their interests via exposure to multiple-styles in a day camp, and potentially get serious about specific style with "by audition only", "year-long commitment required" programs like Team or Troupe. **Individualized Approach** FDS teachers skillfully handle classroom and backstage drama, accommodating each student's needs, fears, and hopes. My kids receive appropriate support, guidance, and care, especially during stressful times. 2. COMMUNITY FDS fosters a strong sense of community. Many families with multiple siblings attend, and parents often get involved through parent-and-child classes, overnight camps, or volunteering. Kids form long-lasting friendships through classroom interactions and bonding experiences like rehearsals and performances, enhancing their social-emotional and self-regulation skills beyond what public school provides. I see some teens start assisting in the classroom, getting leadership experience and caring for younger students. 3. RELIABLE OPERATIONS As a working mom, I appreciate how well-organized FDS is. Communications are timely, detailed, and responsive to individual inquiries. There are no billing issues, unexpected schedule changes, or closures. Management is attuned to client needs, introducing services like transportation for the afterschool program and extending spring break day camp to accommodate different school districts in the area. Suggestions: * How about an acro dance camp or a ballroom dance class? * A summer picnic with the FDS community would be fantastic--more time together with family! * Can we bring back the foreign languages "reading club" to the AfterSchool Program?

At pickup, my daughter is joking and laughing with friends not wanting to leave. Nadeen and all the teachers inspire and invigorate their students--highlighting the importance of confidence and believing in themselves--all the while motivating them to do their best and achieve excellence. The choreography and range of technique is amazing. More importantly, the social emotional learning is very special - especially in dance. The recitals are so so well put together, with professional sound, lighting, costume, and choreography, which is surreal considering that it organizes hundreds of kids into so many back-to-back ~3 minute dances. Luna also feels like a space for inclusion whether the kids are rapidly advancing in skills and there to be with friends and have fun. My daughter has done 4 recitals, and I've done 8 (in the adult hip hop class). We've loved every minute and can't recommend it enough!

This studio has challenged her and she has grown so much to be a better dancer and person. I wish I had moved her to this studio sooner. The teachers and staff are all wonderful. If there is any concerns addressed they do their best to resolve it. When greeting on phone, I believe they should say their name first so It sounds more welcoming. And not so stiff sounding. Especially, since the person on the other end of phone probably doesn't know how sweet the office Staff are.

I have never more happy about a decision I've made. Not only has she drastically improved in just two years, getting a title, scholarships and awards to boot. But, more importantly we've found a new incredible family. These kids and parents all truly care about each other and it's so beautiful. No drama just unbelievable support and great vibes. The teachers are the most amazing humans who truly care about your kid and have a great balance of cheering them on and guiding them to their best potential. I adore every single one of them. They have given my daughter (and I) so much love and support that I'm forever grateful for. I also take their adult classes which has been the most amazing experience for me as well. Yes, it's great fitness and fun. But it has also honestly been such a light in my life on my darkest days and been so great for my mental health. You get the same incredible teachers and amazing supportive community. Who knew one trial class could change our lives so much for the better? Forever grateful for our new family!

Introduction classes taught me routines, steps, the basics of ballroom overall, and higher-level courses taught me further nuances with more detailed patterns. I highly recommend private lessons from this studio - I saw immediate results, with massive improvements to my posture, balance, steps, and the subtleties of each kind of dance. The studio has a wonderful sense of community, with a large number of events throughout the year; On Friday nights, the studio teaches a dance workshop accessible to all levels, rotating between several fun routines - this is followed by a dance party in which the floor opens to general dance with a great atmosphere (lights, music, etc). As a plus, at the time of this review, the dance party is free to anyone who attended the workshop just prior, so you get two experiences for the price of one! The studio offers more than just ballroom itself, with classes in technique, fitness, strength, ballet, line dances, and more. Variety is nice! The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly, and the atmosphere is always positive. For anyone who wants to try out ballroom dance, whether experienced or entirely unfamiliar (like I was), I recommend Arete!

It feels almost…read morelike a lifetime ago, but I thought of them this morning on my walk and it's never too late to call out awesome people, is it!? First of all - it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find an adult hip hop class that's mildly convenient on the SF peninsula... so when it fit my schedule and I saw how welcoming they were, I jumped at the opportunity as soon as I could. It also made for a perfect off-season triathlete activity. Not only did the entire group make me feel comfortable as a newbie, Mandy & Lisa asked me quietly my reason for taking the class. At the time, I was comfortable to confide to them that I still had some unresolved trauma and since a lot of it is energetically stored in the hips, it felt like a good alternative medicine for me. They definitely seemed to understand this, especially as women. Plus, I absolutely LOVE hip hop and jazz and I was able to learn music theory and history, simply by attending this class, perfect for my inner learning geek. Since Jazz is the foundation of hip hop and it was Christmas time, we rehearsed a jazz number, where I felt so lost at first! To their immense credit, both Mandy & Lisa broke down the moves repeatedly, but not too much to distract/slow the more dedicated class goers. Just like any other sport or activity, to improve, they encourage you to practice at home, using their online tutorials, which was very helpful. My best advice to a fellow newbie, with no formal dance training, like me, is this: relax and don't worry if you think you look silly. You'll never improve if you focus on these things. Admittedly, that's much easier said, than done. By the end of my time taking classes here, I learned enough moves to improve at-home dance parties with my kid, relax my body and have fun. If you can swing it, Groovitude is definitely a positive step towards good general health, trauma healing, improving dance moves and good vibes. Imagine if dance were standard in the education system, as part of the core curriculum? Wow, the good it would do for children, being so healthy for the entire body, mind and spirit. Maybe include a homework activity some parents wouldn't mind helping their child with? Hmm, food for thought.
