I used to go to this hair dresser for shoulder length layered hair (can actually see multiple layers) but she has moved somewhere else and I can't find her again to cut my hair. I did some research and after seeing great reviews, I decided to try this place out. The price I paid was $30 + tips with shampoo and cut. I was not satisfied by the hair cut as I asked for shoulder length and with layers. When I came home, my mom said she could have cut that ! It was nothing special and the layers that she did was not even layers. I find Julie scissors skills for layering hair aren't that great! She probably better at dying Asian hair blonde but other than that, I don't think her hair cutting skills are great. Will not be going back. For that price, I can go elsewhere. read more

The whole experience at Fantasy Cuts was really easy. Found them on Yelp with great reviews, called for an appointment the next day and I was in. The day of the appointment (was spring forward) so I totally messed up my time and was late. I had phoned in advance though and they had moved my appointment 30min later and I managed to get there in time! Phew. The owner came and did the consult. She looked at ideas I found on Pinterest. She gave me her opinion on what would look best. She gave me the pricing and once I agreed, she called over Pam who listened to the idea and on we went. Pam did a great job! She is so friendly, personable and is able to carry a great conversation while you're waiting to be rinsed. She also works fast, but really good. The whole process took 3 hours with my balayage, cut and blow dry/curl. I ended up leaving just as they closed. People were calling for appointments, coming and going for theirs like crazy while I was there! You can see they are popular. I'll be recommending them to family and friends. read more

I have gone here to get my hair cut for many years. While it appears to be more of a fancy hair salon for women, they also cut mens hair here too. Ive never had a bad haircut and the price is very reasonable. The staff are very professional and friendly. Great price for balayage and colouring for a reasonable price. Pam did a super job at covering my greys and also giving me blond highlights. It was also really nice of her to give me some snacks as I was getting very hungry. Very friendly staff, but don't expect customer service to be posh as they do multiple customers at same time. However, they make each customer leave the salon looking like superstars. My only complaint would be the hair sink was a little uncomfortable for my neck and the hair dye or shampoo is really strong scented. I've washed my hair a couple of times after yet I still smell the chemical scent. But other than that, for the price and skillset of the staff, I will definitely return! read more

I visited this place on three separate occasions and I will not be coming back. I came here the first time to get a trim and to add subtle brown baby-lights into my dark hair. I showed them a picture and they said OK and that they will make it very subtle (what I wanted). They bleached then toned my hair, and since the lighting was so dark in there I couldn't really see what I was getting and left pretty satisfied. When I finally saw my hair in my brightly lit bathroom at home I realized that instead of giving me baby-lights/highlights I got big streaks of unevenly dyed brassy hair! It was literally GREEN. This was the night before Valentine's Day so I couldn't even get it fixed in time for my date the next night so I was obviously very very upset. I called them a few days later and they told me to wait a week and if the green doesn't wash out (?????) then I can come back to get it fixed. A week goes by and it's still green so I go back and luckily they made it darker, but it still returned to yellow a few weeks later but at that point I was like fuck it and just left it. The second time I came back was just for a trim just because they did a good job on my cut the first time and this time it was fine. The most recent time I went there was a few days ago to get another haircut. Since I had been growing my hair out for a while I decided I wanted a big change and to get like a lot of hair (like 6 inches) chopped off. When she finished it was still way too long and she insisted "I cut a lot off already! long hair is better anyways"... I also asked for like a "gradient" to frame my face but it was really uneven and not even a gradient and the hair near my face was sooo much shorter than my hair in the back that it looks like I am wearing really cheap extensions or like I have really grown out bangs (not the look I wanted) Anyways the ladies there are nice and their prices are fairly affordable but for the sake of my sanity I probably won't go back again just because 2/3 of my experiences have been less than satisfactory. read more

Went here to get a trim and bring my old, brassy balayage to an ashier blonde/brown colour. I was never introduced to my stylist, however I believe I was worked on by Julie. I showed her pictures of the colour I wanted and she said yes ash grey. It was definitely not grey, however because I'm not overly fussy with my hair and mainly just wanted the brassiness gone, I agreed. The dying process appeared to be just regular foil highlights, not a true balayage technique. I've had balayage down twice and both times they hand-painted my hair and wrapped it in plastic, not foils. During the 4 hour process my stylist was working on 3 people at once and seemed a little rushed. There were multiple girls who came in with appointments and were told to wait while the 3 stylists were already working on multiple people. It seems they do not prioritize and work around appointments but rather take as many people as possible. In the end my colouring turned out straight grey. While it did look reasonably nice and I didn't mind it, it was not what I had asked for. It seems they just go for whatever colour they think will be easiest/quickest, and not try to achieve exactly what you want. My cut also seemed rushed and she did not even take the time to properly part my hair at the top to see where the layers would fall. In the end the price was also a lot higher than I had anticipated. I paid roughly $250 for what was not a true balayage technique nor accurate attempt at colour. I think for the same price you can definitely get a higher quality job and service at a different/higher end salon. read more

I had been growing my hair out for about 2 years getting ready for my wedding and came here to bring my hair back to its natural color. I told the girl my hair was naturally strawberry blonde (as in it pulls red) and that is something I like. She said there was a fair amount of damage and would have to cut off some length. When she showed me the amount it looked like 3 inches, that I was fine with. The final cut was closer to 6 inches and she used a green toner on my hair so it looked almost grey for a month. I did by the purple shampoo she advised for me and it did help remove the green toner, but green cancels red and should never have been used on my hair. She did do a good job not damaging my hair and bringing it close to my natural hair color, but the cut and the toner were both issues. For the price it was reasonable. $200 for cut and color correction. Just make sure you are far more forceful with what you want and expect or they might take all your hair and turn you green. read more

wowowowowow!! My usual salon closed down but honestly, I have never been very happy getting haircuts or dye jobs anywhere because it never turns out the way I want. It would take me 6-8 months to get a haircut because I have never had a really enjoyable experience. Now everything has changed!! Today was my first time at Fantasy; I came here because a classmate recommended it highly. The owner Julie is a HAIR GOD and turns out she is best friends with my aunt so that's really cool :). The prices are very affordable and reasonable for the array of products that Julie uses on you--all high quality products. She knows exactly what she is talking about and prioritizes the health of your hair. My original hair was ombre (black to brownish red) and I wanted platinum blonde highlights. Julie darkened my base and put in ash blonde highlights to create an amazing contrast. She also mixed in several different blonde colours into the highlights to produce a beautiful blend in my hair. She worked fast but carefully and diligently...and she's very friendly. I was there for about 3 hours but it felt fast and only paid $150. At other salons, this kind of job has cost me over $200 in the past. In the end, my hair looked very ash at first but Julie told me not to worry and that over time and after a few washes, it would turn out brighter and more natural. I went home and I already think it is beautiful! I love my hair so much and I'm so happy. Julie has a new customer for life. Don't be scared if your hair turns out darker than you wanted at first, mine turned out way better than I could have imagined--TRUST JULIE!!! I got there at 10AM when the store opened and Julie started working on me right away. You can tell she is hard-working and is excellent at what she does. read more

Went in for a quick hair cut, just needed a trim and my hair thinned out. I dont know the stylists name but they took me in right away, assessed my hair and said with shampoo it would be $35. I've never gotten haircuts for less than $50. Super affordable! Had a wonderful hair wash and the stylist made a suggestion to layer my hair a little which I agreed. She cut it perfectly, layers on point and everything was even. She also straightened it and doubled checked the length all around. This is a no nonsense place. An easy to spot location where there won't be any problems finding free parking! Also, I noticed a bus stop a few steps up the street so taking public transit here is very convenient as well. The salon itself is very clean, modern looking and not too big or small; a decent size. We were greeted right away warmly by Julie (The salon owner) and asked what we wanted to get done since we didn't make an appointment prior to walking in. It was a Sunday and even though it wasn't too late yet (Around noon), it was already kinda busy (More than 3 people were already there getting their hair done or waiting). I'd recommend making an appointment (Julie said a day before at least is best) unless you are fine with waiting. The wait wasn't too long though surprisingly since there were quite a few people, it was around 30 minutes! I felt very comfortable talking to Julie about what I wanted. I brought photos and she helped with what she thought would look best on me. Throughout the cut, every time she was about to do another part of my hair (EX: Showing me where she's going to cut up to, how she was going to layer a bit of the ends, where she'd start my bangs...etc.), she would inform me and ask if it was alright which I appreciated a lot. She was easy to converse with and was so sweet!! She 'kept thanking me for coming when I told her about how I found her salon on Yelp from all the good reviews and how far I travelled. My hair was done very quickly (I want to say 10 minutes but I'm not sure), but it looked great!! I am extremely satisfied with the results, I was shocked by how nice it looked since usually at other salons, my hair ends up looking "alright" or not what I had visualized but Julie really gave me what I wanted! My hair was very long, it reached my waist so I was surprised by how fast she was. Julie gave me tips on how I could do my hair and said that she cut it in a way where even if I didn't style it (Since I told her I don't usually), it would still look presentable/good. My only complaint is that I noticed my hair was a bit longer on my left side compared to the right, it's noticeable if you actually pay attention to it but for the majority of the time, no. Another great thing about Fantasy Cuts is the pricing, it's amazing!! My haircut was only $20 which is a great price compared to other salons which are usually around $40+. From past experiences, my hair cuts only look good on the day of and I'll have to wait for my hair to grow at least a month before it becomes what I had I visioned but from Julie's cut, I've liked it on the day of and still do!! The style has remained the way I wanted and my hair feels a lot healthier now that it's shorter! A bit of an odd comment but the ends of my hair feel great, super soft!! Completely recommend this salon for anyone in need of a cut! They are open 7 days a week and do everything from eyelash extensions to hair colouring! I didn't experience their hair colouring but the lady beside me had it done and it looked stunning!! It didn't have a "fried" look to it, in fact, it looked healthier and shinier than before! She asked what I want and show me pictures to explain how light I can go as I had been using box dye . She also explains the difference between highlight and balayage . I read all these great reviews and thought - okay. I don't know the name of the woman who "served" me. She was not very easy to communicate with - English not good. I indicated exactly how much I wanted off of my long hair. She snipped quickly, seemingly without care and when I got up from the chair about 5 minutes later I was appalled to see that she had cut off twice as much as I asked for. When I brought this to her attention, she insisted that it was a very good look for me. Debatable - and not what I asked for. It was the worst customer service I had ever had. When I first got into the store I asked to get my hair coloured. They lady tossed at me two colouring books to choose a colour from, insisting that I choose certain colours that would generally look good on Asians. I had already told her the particular colour I want. I'm not going to go further into details, but basically I was asked to blow dry my own hair and told that once I was done I can walk out, and my hair was treated roughly. I've been working towards the perfect platinum hair for about eight years now. I've been many places and have had great dye jobs before, but nothing tops what Julie can do for you. I went in today and asked her to make me as blonde as she possibly could, and that I liked it to be as close to white as possible. That's usually what I say, and while I've had other stylists do a good job, no one has taken the image I had in my mind and recreated it as perfectly as Julie did. I've gone to her two times now, and can't imagine going anywhere else. It's not a salon you go for fancy service-they're always busy (a great sign) and sometimes you may be asked to help blow dry you're own hair. But honestly, the end result is so amazing that none of that matters. They focus on what is important and that's being kind and respectful, listening to what you want, and doing all they can to accommodate you. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I've been back a couple times but I won't be going back again. The two senior stylists are good (at least, I can vouch for one of them), but both times I went recently, I got my hair cut by another person, who appears to listen to requests and looks at photos, but then does something completely different and half-baked. It feels like she has no understanding of the basics of shaping hair - I could do better in my bathroom (and have in the past!). Not only does she fail to follow instructions (I asked for my bangs not to be touched at all but she chopped straight into them and I had to ask her to stop, eek), she is also not great at cutting symmetrically... As I sit, one of my sideburns is more or less properly cut (in a style that was not at all what I requested, sigh) and the other is shaggy and choppy and half an inch longer. Disappointed. Wait for the more experienced stylists or go somewhere else that charges a bit more but does a proper job. read more
