$20 for ladies cut? Heck yeah. I was in the area and desperately needed a cut, luckily they had room for me! Julie (the owner) and her staff are Vietnamese, but conversation is no problem as her English is fine and she loves to engage and talk with her customers. Really friendly place. read more

I have been going to the same lady to get my hair cut since I was 7 so clearly I was super scared of getting my haircut in a new city. I had really long thick hair (down to mid back) and so yelp lead me to Fantasy Cuts with all the great reviews I wasn't disappointed. Got my hair chopped off to my shoulders and styled just the way I wanted it (my hair is super thick and can get frizzy at times). I am super picky about how my hair looks and I was really satisfied with how it was handled here. I would recommend it. For $20+tip I got my hair cut and I'm actually happy about it! I will definitely be going there for as long as my stay in Vancouver lasts! read more

Amazing!!!!!! This is going to be my go to salon from now on till the end of time! Got a balayage done today and it is everything I wanted and so much more. And the price made me love this place even more! Seriously if you want anything done with your hair, come here! Julie was so nice and she wanted my hair to look good as much as I did, the service was impeccable and I'm just so happy I came here. 5 stars for fantasy cuts! Thanks Julie! read more

Fantasy Cuts - My balayage - Hair Salons Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Came here to get my hair colored couple days ago. I wasn't expecting a place that is charging me $260+ needed to dry my own hair and having water down my back when getting my hair washed. As for the hair color, the result was nothing like what I've asked for in the beginning. I showed them the picture of the color I wanted for my hair, they said they can do it, gave me a price and started working on my hair. But the color didn't look anything close to the picture and ended up have a few sections of my hair not properly bleached. They told me it was the style for the sections that were left unbleached and it was because I have Asian hair, therefore, it was impossible to have the same color. Why didn't you tell me beforehand that you can't do it? To me, they are full of excuses when it comes to not achieving what the customer wants. They'll try to say everything is 'normal' and should turn out like that. I'm certainly not coming back, and will not recommend anybody to come if you're getting your hair colored. They are better places in Vancouver that would give you better results read more

Last week I flew from Chicago to Vancouver to send my little brother off to his first year of college at UBC, and while there I decided to get hair coloring and treatment- which I was planning to do for months now. Fantasy Cuts had a lot of great yelp reviews plus all the amazing before and after photos that convinced me to make an appointment ASAP. Unlike many yelp reviewers/customers, I did not get my hair done by Julie, but another senior staff. At first I was worried that my hair wouldn't turn out as beautiful as I was dreaming of, but my stylist did a great job on the new color and blow drying my hair to beautiful waves. Julie was giving recommendations on what would be best for my hair and all the things a professional hair stylist would tell you. Damn was she right. Julie is the Hair Master. All hair hail Julie. I went from dark brown to light honey brown and I have been in love with my hair ever since. I have gotten so many compliments from my friends in Chicago, I mean even the GUYS noticed how gorgeous my hair was. Honestly, I am going to fly back Vancouver just to get my hair done at Fantasy Cuts. read more

I tried this place due to the wonderful Yelp reviews and love my haircut! Usually I just accept what my haircut turns out to be but this time, I actually love it! Julie cut my hair into a bob (with a wash) and gave me a blond streak and it came out to $60. Wowza. Not only does she know hair very well, but she is quick! Also I was amazed at how quickly my hair took to go from black to blond as it is known to be resistant to dye. While I was waiting for my dye to work its magic, she cut three guys' hair, less than 10 mins each and they all looked great! I made a reservation but like others have mentioned, you probably will have to wait anyways but will have priority. It's such a busy salon and don't be surprised if each hair stylist is working with 3 clients at the same time. I saw that some clients had to blow dry their own hair for a bit, but it's so the ladies can do a quick cut in the process then finish the styling process when the hair is more dry. Only cash and debit are accepted. Probably best to go during the day instead of after work hours because the wait gets long! read more

Super unhygienic, no after care was told right after dying my hair. I wanted to wash it the night after I had gotten it dyed but since I wasn't told about the aftercare process, the dye had already come out a bit! Used the same comb on my hair after dropping it during the cutting process. Don't expect high end services to be provided but definitely not coming back for it. The color didn't even last more than a month and wasn't even what I expected when I asked for a cool toned brown. Came out completely blonde after a month of washing and purple shampoo. So disappointed Was going to give tip in cash after paying the whole amount of my bleach and dye but my hair dressed GASPED because I didn't include it in my debit payment. Extremely rude. Don't think I'll be going back ever again. read more

I have long, blonde, straight hair. You think it would be easy to cut, but because it's so straight it shows imperfections easily. I was really happy with Fantasy Cuts! When I arrived, a woman asked me what I was looking for with my cut - and I explained it to her. She then translated (Vietnamese) to a young guy with great hair, who cut my hair. I was a bit nervous expecting something to get lost in translation but he asked helpful questions and gave me exactly what I was looking for. They cut it dry, and the outcome was great but I wish I had known in advance so I could have washed my hair in the morning. They charged me $25, and I tipped $5. He did really well and I love how it looks :) read more

Back again. This time to chop off my long looong dead hair which I experimented with over the years. Dropped in and Anne cut my hair freely and for 20 bucks I'm looking DOPE as hell. Not a lot of frills but don't let their tone scare you. They are experts and do take your hair seriously. read more

I just moved back to the city and to the Mount Pleasant neighborhood and was looking for a new hair salon. I just happen to live above the salon, so I thought I would try it out. Pamela did an amazing asymmetrical haircut and highlighted my hair blonde. It looks and feels great and it cost me $90 overall! (not including tip) They are always pleasant, speedy and affordable. I have been back twice since my first initial visit. read more

Paid eighteen dollars for a basic crew cut haircut. The hair stylist was very quiet and hardly spoke. The haircut itself was okay. The shocking thing was she did not use any shampoo to wash my hair. Plus she continued to cut my hair again after she "washed it" but did not wash my hair a second time. So I had short cut hairs going down my collar. If you are in a bind and need a quick haircut then you can come here. It is not great but it is not awful. read more

Had my hair dyed balayage and trimmed by Julie. She was very accommodating and updated me regularly on what she was going to do on my hair next. Even after bleaching my hair, it still looks healthy. During the duration I was there she had cut and dyed many other people's hair and in my opinion, they all walked out looking gorgeous. Last but not least, the price is very reasonable. Highly recommended! read more

I've been debating posting this for a year and a half now... But I think it needs to be said. I came here after reading all the great reviews about two years ago, wanting to blonde - I wish I could remember the name of my stylist but I think I've blocked a lot of the experience out - the stylist was kind of cold and through out waiting for my bleach to do its thing, she was boiling chicken wings in the sink behind me... Anyway, my hair was down to the top of my butt, I got it bleached to go blonde all over and when the stylist started taking out the foils, LARGE clumps of hair started coming out when she brushed it... I just watched clumps of it hit the ground and tried not to cry. She blow dried it and then CURLED it, I'm not an expert but I'd think that you'd want to avoid further heat damage to now-extremely damaged hair, no? When she was done curling I was brave enough to look and it was, no joke, light green and INCHES gone. She still charged me $400+ for the treatment even thought she made remarks about sometimes bleach is harsh on hair and I could tell the treatment didn't go as she'd expected. No discount and no offer to come and see her in a week or so for a deep condition or anything. I cried for WEEKS. Since then I've spend thousands on my hair to repair the damage and I'm a little too scared to go to a hair salon again. It might be dramatic to say she ruined my life, but my self esteem was in the toilet for a solid year. read more

I had a great experience at Fantasy Cuts. The staff are really fun/friendly and the salon is clean/comfortable. Pam gave me a beautiful ashy blonde ombre/bayalage colour. I was super nervous to try someone new, but I was completely blown away by the end result. She took her time and told me what she was doing through the process and stopped to make sure I liked the style in the process. I've been getting a ton of compliments on my hair since. To top it off, the price could not be beat! I would definitely recommend you try this salon, and will be back when the colour grows out. read more

This is a very simple salon. I decided to come here after reading all the amazing reviews. I wanted a simple trim and for $20, I thought "can't go wrong". Julie wet my hair with a spray bottle and starting chopping my hair and then used a flat iron to straighten the ends. 10 min later, I could not believe how awful my hair looked. Trust me, this was not worth $20. I am staying clear of this place. read more

Fantasy cuts is amazing! Service 100%. Result A+! I booked an appointment 3 days ahead for a balayage by Julie and a haircut for my boyfriend. Personally, it was my first time getting my hair dyed at a salon and first time bleaching, so I was a bit nervous about the outcome. I was scared my hair would be fried. However the result was so good! Better than I envisioned! Yes you had to blow dry your own hair, but thats completely fine. Julie was nice and chit chatty once I got in. She was polite and asked and genuinely cared about my opinion of the hair. When she cut my hair she gave me recommendations and she followed exactly how much i wanted to get trimmed. Not to mention the price was great! $150 for balayage and trim! As for my boyfriend, his cut was done by Ken. It was quick and easy and nice. He got a faded combover for $13. He got his hair washed once before cutting cuz he had product in his hair, then another time after his cut. Ken is very thorough and precise! He gave nice head massages during the washing process, as he washed my hair as well. Also, he was very careful and skilled when straightening my hair. My boyfriend is picky with his hairdressers and at first he was afraid to try something new. But, after Ken finished, he says he'll go back everytime from now on because Ken is great. Everyone was very respectful, kind, and friendly! 110% recommend!! Julie will now become my go-to hairdresser and Ken will be my boyfriends'! :) read more

Experience here is hit and miss, you never know which until your hair is done. Pros: Affordable, i.e. I paid $250 for full hair coloring bayalage. Cons: 1. Not very friendly service 2. Will not listen to you, and will not let you pick the color off the book 3. Told the stylist I wanted dark brown, but turned out black 4. Told the stylist I didn't want the hair to be over-toned, she over-toned it anyway 5. Seemed very impatient 6. HAIR LOOKS ALMOST THE SAME AS BEFORE (besides that clear cut off between two colors on my hair, making it look totally tacky). Will not be coming back. OH and did I mention that your stylist will go do other people's hair WHILE doing yours? Pretty much the whole time. read more

The price for a balayage here is unbeatable. Pam quoted $220 for a grey/blue colour on my black Asian hair. I agreed and right away she went to work bleaching to lift it to a light yellow colour. I noticed she left some dark strands which I thought was a bit unusual. She told me it was for the balayage look. So the bleach was left in for about an hour and lifted my black hair to a pale yellow, almost white colour in one session which l was very impressed with. When Pam washed out the bleach, the headrest at the sink was quite hard and uncomfortable so prepare for that! Then, I was left to blow dry my own hair after washing which was fine with me. The coloured dye was then applied and rinsed out once again. The end result wasn't really what I was looking for because there were some brown strands and looked a bit uneven with the rest of my gray/blue hair. I'm guessing it's from not bleaching all of my hair. Next time I would probably save up for a different salon. read more

2/5 for getting my hair done by Julie I wouldn't go to Julie (owner) for hair colouring. The process was rushed and the amount of hair dye seemed not enough. Try Pam she seems to spend more time with her clients. I picked this salon because they use Goldwell dyes, fair prices ($190 balayage and hair cut), and the number of good yelp reviews. I thought what the salon lacked in aesthetics was made up with the quality of application and service. While toning my hair, Julie only used one or two pieces of foil to brush my hair after informing her that my scalp is sensitive. I looked over the other client (who was getting her hair done by Pam) she had foils in her hair while getting toned. As a result I ended up cleaning my ears and chin to take the dye out. My hair got blow dried by her untrained and under aged relatives which was uncomfortable while she works on another client. Julie did a nice job of curling my hair but she could have added more products to hold the curls longer. I was a little disappointed with how little ash purple I could see on my hair but thought the look was acceptable thinking that it was going to last by buying and using the recommended shampoo. I knew that my chosen colour would fade but I didn't think it would fade within a couple of days! A week later from my appointment I had to get my hair retouched from Julie. It was again rushed and she used way less dye compared to my first application. She did mention that a darker purple would last longer. I asked if she could dye it the darker purple but she denied the request and would only colour ash lavender. Most salons would dye a different colour and strive for customer's satisfaction if the customer wasn't happy with the results. From my observation Julie's men's cuts looked nice and stylish and very affordable. Pam seemed to spend more time with her clients than Julie. Pam did a really nice hair cut transformation with an Asian woman who had frizzy dry hair into a smooth straight mid shoulder length hair. Pam is really nice she gave me a sandwich while I got my hair done and I wasn't her client. If you want to try Fantasy Hair Cuts I would go with Pam. read more

Came here for a hair cut and Balayge after seeing reviews on yelp. I asked for Julie and she was super nice and the place is extremely busy. However, the colour was not what I had originally wanted. I had originally wanted Ash Blonde, but i felt like I got a Ash brown instead. The price seemed to also range dependent on the client. I was quoted a different price than another girl, but when I was charged, I was charged the same price as the other girl. It was only about a $10 difference, but still odd. read more

After reading reviews and looking at pictures I decided to check this place out. Went in for a haircut the other day. Maybe they treat their regulars better? But I was ushered into a chair by a woman who was on the phone. No introduction at all. So I have no idea who did my cut. My hair was unwashed because I expected them to wash dry and cut it. Maybe I should've been more specific? But after a few instructions and I showed her a picture she went straight to cutting my messy dirty hair. Straightening the waves and ponytail kinks it as she cut. I found this quite strange and ended up leaving with my hair looking worse. Flat ironed and greasy at the roots it just kinda hung there. The cut was only $20. What did I expect? I would've been willing to pay more for a proper wash cut and style. But now that I've washed it and dried it I'm noticing it's uneven and quite choppy. Not impressed. If she had washed and dried my hair prior to cutting, my wavy hair would've hung straight enough to have been cut accurately. I won't be going back. But I hope they read this and take my critiques to heart. Now I have to spend more to get it fixed. This is what I get for trying new things. Sigh. read more

Rushed my haircut to make a quick buck. Took less than 5 min and my hair looks very uneven, did not like my hairdresser's attitude

Mixed feelings after my experience. Having read over reviews on Yelp, decided to give the salon a try and made an appointment a week earlier. The location is very accessible on major b-line route, thumbs up for this. However, not impressed with up keeping of the inside. A hot wax machine close to my chair with used wax and wood stick looked like it had been sitting there for a while. It is comfortable and bright inside, but a tad disorganized and messy if you're more used to salons that up keep even the staff area. But I assume that service and quality of product and work would make up for this having read great reviews. I have long dark virgin Asian hair and had previously had balayage done at another salon 5 months ago. My goal was to get silver grey toned hair which I know is very difficult to achieve and was told I would have to go through several sessions to achieve this look. This was the third session at three different salons. I was happy with results the first time but the price was steep, unhappy with second location and decided to try a different place the third time around. I was not sure who would be attending my hair and I was not given an introduction and neither was I asked for my name when I arrived, so I left without knowing the names of the two ladies who worked on my hair. The main person who worked on me did not seemed happy to work on me, this was a big downfall for me but she sounded like she understood what I wanted and could do the job so I went along. I'm fine with impersonal service, but just be warned if that is something you personally look for in your experience. I brought along pictures of what I wanted, and they got to work on me. My impression was that I felt that they were both confident in what they were doing and I liked this. It was a very no fuss, get the job done quick kind of pace, like they have done this many times before. The whole time I was there about 3 hours, they serviced other clients, mostly walk-ins and males. I left with color that was darker than when I went in. I asked for a light silver grey shade and the result was ashy blond brown. It looked very nice but it wasn't what I came for. I know from experience that the color will fade and lighten. It was styled nicely at the end but the shade was not what I asked for. At least it was not orange and brassy?! Was asked to help blow dry hair, wasn't shocked because I was warned from reading reviews. Left with pretty styled hair(temporary solution) in color I didn't want (permanent). Overall disappointed, $200 not including tip. read more

I went in for a haircut(men) here, they do great fade BUT, can't seem to cut well with scissors, uneven. Wasn't too happy. I ended up going somewhere else to get a even out. If you're just looking for a Fade Job, for $13 bucks this is a good place. But if you have a thing about hygiene (NONE), be warned this is not the place for you as the machine and scissors seemed to have been used to cut previous customers but they have not been cleaned when they were used on me. As far as customer service goes, I'm not suer if it's due to their custom, I found them to be quite bossy, and not friendly at all! read more

I went in for a trim and one strip of blue colour added to my hair. I had been in for a trim once before. No problems. Reasonable price. Good service. The second time I went (trim + colour) they were very busy and everyone there was handed a blow drier and asked to blow dry their own hair. Myself included. Everything seemed very rushed that day. I was disappointed with the dark blue strip of colour I received too. Within a week it turned purple and part of it turned blonde shortly after. It stayed half purple and half blonde for a long time. I paid $80 for the trim and colour strip, even though I blow dried my own hair. read more

My daughter got a fantastic hair cut by Pam. I will definitely take her back. Pam did the cutest inverted bob. She has gotten so many compliments. It only cost $12 and she did an amazing job. Pam also cut my hair - I have wavy/curly hair, she straightened it first and then cut it, that was odd. I seem to have triangle head and will have to go elsewhere to have it cut into a style. My trim was mainly to get rid of damaged hair, it only cost $20...I'd go back for a trim but I don't think she is the one to be cutting curly hair....my daughter's hair is mainly straight.
