ASH BLONDE - picture doesn't do justice.
    Sheelz J.

I went to Fantasy Cuts for the first time referred by 3 co-workers and was very surprised by what my hair can do :) Ask for Pam - she is the queen of Ash blonde. Pam took some time to ask what type of cut and colour I want and really listened. After she was done, we both blowdry my super long hair and she styled my hair what i requested (beach look) and gave me tips on how to maintain the health of my hair. Price is fantastic, I paid 200 for cut and ash baby beach look highlights. I would definitely go back again! I would recommend this place. The ladies are kind, loud, no BS but they are very competent. I will go back again.

I went in on a Sunday afternoon. Very satisfied with the results. Good price and she really paid attention to the details. I would definitely recommend. Thanks to Pam for doing an awesome job.

Pan and Ann did a really great job!!!!! My sister and I love the colour and their service is excellent. Highly recommended!!!

My roots in a brightly-lit bathroom. Random dark brown chunks.

I hate that I have to write this review because the ladies here are nice. Alas, I've gotta keep it real. I visited this salon twice, so the 2 stars is because my first visit wasn't so bad. FIRST VISIT: I went in with medium brown hair (with a lot of grey hair, because I'm unlucky and started to go grey super early), and asked for a head of icy/silver-ish BLONDE highlights. I showed a picture of a blonde. (I'd read reviews and saw that this place was known for lifting darker hair, so I was excited to try them. My hair can handle a lot of bleach and not snap, and it also lifts fairly fast, so I wasn't too worried about that.) After 6-ish hours (and $280 + 20% tip) I left with my hair still quite dark, but with some nice (dark-ish) gray highlights. It wasn't what I wanted, but you know what? I didn't mind it, and it was 6 hours of work for a reasonable price. Every other salon wanted to quote me $500+ because my hair is long. The color I ended up with here suited my skin tone, and though there was some dreaded gold tones and some obvious mistakes, it wasn't THAT bad for the price. The lady who did my hair was nice, too, and I appreciated that they were all wearing their masks properly, had hand sanitizer on-site and asked clients to wash their hands upon entering the salon. SECOND VISIT: 2 months later I came back, hoping to get my roots done and for some icy-blonde highlights (I wanted to be blonde!). They convinced me that I needed the whole top half of my head highlighted and the whole head toned. So it would cost $220 this time (and despite it turning out REALLY bad, I left a 20% tip because when they blowdried it, they parted it to the very far side where it looked more blonde, and I didn't part it back the right way (and subsequently see all the orange and patchiness) until I was in my car. As you can see from the attached photos (all from my second visit), my hair is a smorgasbord of colours. Read the captions. I took the photos in 2 different types of lighting so you can get a fair look at the true tones. They are raw and untouched. In one, you can see that the underneath side near my temples is a cool blonde (more like the color I wanted), but has a random patch of brown through it. At the part, it's all orange/yellow/silver/brown. A little bit of everything, really. Then at the crown, I lifted it up and it's REALLY gold/orange with bits of brown and yellow. In the picture I showed the hair stylist, the girl had beautiful icy blonde hair--a color I know I could get quite easily as my hair lifts well and is strong. Needless to say, after getting home and having a good long look through my hair, it's basically a disaster and I'm going to have to pay a HUGE amount of money to get this fixed after already spending $600 here to look like a calico cat. Again, I hate having to write this review, but I spent a LOT of money here and don't want someone else to end up $600 poorer and with gold/streaky hair. I didn't complain to them because I don't want to go back there at all to have it 'fixed,' as I'm (naturally) terrified that I'd leave with nothing but more stripes/patches and major damage. Edit: I have more characters so I want to add some good points: The lady who did my hair was SO good at cleaning the bleach off of me; she used a face cloth and wiped my ears and neck. She was also gentle with brushing out my hair after. She was quietly friendly and a nice person, and so is the owner (both of whom seem to enjoy what they do). I also saw them do a haircut on a girl a chair over, and the haircut looked beautiful. On their Instagram, you can also see pics of other people's hair bleaching that turned out nice. I didn't have such luck (they didn't even take a pic of mine because surely they knew it didn't look nice). They also did come back often and check the hair to make sure it wasn't burning off.

    Ashy blonde balayage by Pam
    Amanda C.

Great prices ($180) for balayage ashy blonde on my natural ginger. Pam was very diligent and good at matching the random Pinterest photo I brought in. Easy parking on the side street. No frills salon, don't expect any champagne or extra pampering but the stylists are nice. Pam was having a bad personal day (she got in a car accident) but she didn't let it affect her work. She gave me a free trim with my colouring! My only complaint is maybe new washing station... my neck/lower scalp is bruised from yesterday. Lack of padding at sink?

I've been coming here regularly to get my hair colored for the past 3 years and Julie never disappoints!! Service is efficient and my hair always turns out better than I hoped for. Julie is amazing at working with Asian hair and the best part is my hair is still as healthy as ever! Another win is that the prices are affordable compared to other hair salons in the Vancouver market. I highly recommend Julie because she will make all your hair color dreams come true!!

    Jay S.

Judging from all the reviews and photos, I thought that this place would know how to turn fine, straight Asian hair into voluminous, healthy locks, and they were able to do just that. Julie is the owner who helped mix my hair colour (warm brown) but Ann coloured and cut my hair. They were able to achieve quite a light colour for not using bleach. She cut off a good 5 inches of damaged hair. I wish she gave me a warning but luckily I wasn't too attached to the length. I also received a moisturizing treatment ($30) to hopefully minimize some of the damage to my hair. End cost: $200. I will definitely come here again and I would recommend this place. But I will also tell people to expect loud, no-frills, but competent type of service. This is not a boutique type salon. Just be prepared for that.

I have been coming to Fantasy cuts for years and Julie never disappoints with both cut and colour. She is a hair wizard and always knows what colour/cut will suit my face best. She even curls my hair after to make me feel extra pretty. I recommend Julie to anyone who is considering colouring their hair! Overall, everyone who works at Fantasy cuts is sweet and genuine and its a great experience overall :)

Ash brown highlights done by Pam who was the sweetest woman ever!! (My camera does have a slightly yellowish tint on photos though)
    Cherlene T.

Booked a cut + full head colour appointment with Pam, and showed her a picture, but Pam and Julie recommended that to get the shade I wanted, I should get it toned with highlights. The appointment ended up lasting for a good 4 hours, with Pam serving other customers and cutting their hair in between waiting for the toning to be done on my hair. I was totally fine with that, as both Pam and Julie made sure that I was taken care of throughout - with Pam even offering me healthy snacks and tea which I really appreciated! Her service was absolutely delightful, and fun conversations with her helped the time pass fast. My hair turned out somewhat different from the shade that I wanted, with the end product being more ashy than brown, but I really loved it still as it looked great and was a really nice change for spring! Wish I lived in Vancouver (I was visiting from Toronto) so I could come back more often, but would highly recommend this place - great prices too. Just make sure that if you're looking for the exact shade as the picture you bring in, then I recommend really making it very clear to your stylist to avoid surprises. Update: I went back to the salon the day after to clarify the difference in colour, and Julie and Pam explained really patiently why they didn't do the colour in the picture I showed them - that colour would have faded to yellow (which I'd said I didn't want), and thus the current cooler ashy tones they gave me would fade a little warmer after a few washes. This reassured me quite a bit, and I'd say to trust the expertise of the Fantasy Cuts team! :)

    Sibel M.

Definitely not the colour I asked for but Julie explained that achieving the colour I wanted would fry my hair and I truly agree because my hair had been over bleached. I had previously wanted a light brown back in June but the colourist dyed my hair blonde and said I looked better a blonde. I paid her 500$ for frying my head and she would not dye my hair brown as I asked for. I only paid 160$ at Fantasy cuts and the colour is so beautiful and blended in so well. Julie really explained what colour I would achieve and even showed me samples of hair colour to give me an idea of what my hair would turn out to be. She was very friendly over the phone as well and assured me she would correct my hair colour and box dyed hair and that is what she has done. I'm so happy with the results and even my hair cut and style. The entire process took about an hour and a half! :) I'll definitely be back!

I have been going to Anne at Fantasy Cuts for the past three years and she always does an outstanding job with my hair. I always get compliments on my hair colour. Anne is very friendly, personable, and understands what colour and cut would look best for her clients. Highly recommend!

    Elsie N.

I've seen Anne a couple times now and she always gives me what I want! I show her a photo of around what I want and then make more specific requests and she gives me exactly what I describe! The colour washes out nicely and if I maintain it with purple shampoo, it doesn't get brassy up until my next visit- a year later! Highly recommend Anne! She's very detailed and patient when it comes to colouring!

I found out about Julie and Fantasy Cuts after my cousin recommended her to me. His girlfriend has been going there for years and I've always admired how beautiful her hair is always, so I decided to check her out. I went with my mom that day and first thing I walk in I was greeted by Julie. She smiled, welcomed me and asked what she could do for me. I told her I wanted to get my hair done. She quickly ushered me to a stool and brought me the colour swatch books. I told her I wanted blonde highlights. She instantly went to work, prepping the stuff and making sure I was comfortable. Throughout the whole process, even when other customers came in and she was attending to them, she would always come back to me to ask if I was ok. Ever since then I've been going to her to get my hair done. Shes really good, pays attention to details and the clients needs. She always offers suggestions and advice but respects the decision of the client. Her salon is quite big as well, shes always cleans up after each client. She does offer other services like ear piercing, eyelash extensions, waxing etc. Haven't had a chance to try the other services except ear piercing. Got my cartilage done after so many years of wanting it but being scared to do it. She did it in seconds and didn't hurt at all. It didn't get infected and healed right away. In the end, I really recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.

We've gone through a bunch of different hair colours over the years, I used to dye my hair and started disliking the dark root look, so when Covid hit, I decided that I would start to grow our my natural colour. As a professional musician, our band is always having photos done, I didn't want to look grey, I wanted to somehow keep a hint of blonde but maintain a somewhat natural look with my salt and pepper coming in. I discussed this with Amanda who knew exactly what to do, she suggested foils and we've been doing foils ever since. I would never go to any other salon. Citrus Hair Salon is so classy, from the wonderful staff that greets you at the door to the person popping by with snacks. They have fantastic communication, you get a phone call and a text if your stylist is running late. The salon itself is very stylish, the wash area seats are soft and padded and you never get neck strain unlike other salons when your hair is being washed plus they have an array of wonderful products. If you like hair extensions - they have those too! Amanda is not only an expert with colours and styles, she's an incredibly beautiful and kind, smart, charismatic human. There needs to be more stars available to add to this review - great doesn't quite match the service and quality, it should say extraordinary. Thank you Amanda for taking such good care of me all these years and to the owner and all the staff as well. It's easy to write a bad review, I wish more people would write reviews when people and establishments are outstanding.

On a rare occasion I will mention names only for the purposes of management to be aware. Names provided on their website. Sitting in my styling chair and having Kim take care of me, I was actually quite impressed. Not only was she a delight to deal with but she's an absolute expert at what she does...I received exactly what I was looking for. I was really enjoying myself...the energy, the vibe and knowing I was in good hands with Kim who was cutting my hair for the first time. I was in this Zen place thinking to myself in my chair ....finally I found my salon. ........................Until At the end, as I was checking out.....Luna charged me $120. I reminded her that actually Kim's fee for a woman's cut on the website is $100. She mentioned that this is the minimum and that it can increase based on the length of hair, quality of hair...and this and that....which is funny because they call you before the appointment and ask you all that stuff, but don't mention any price increase, until you have to pay....lol I asked her again and she said, the website is not accurate... wow...ok.... Anyhoo, I did find it a little disingenuous especially considering that Kim my stylist mentioned it was easy to cut my hair because of how healthy it is...so why the extra charge then?..... Anyway, moving on....Kim gave me a great cut and she's worth every dollar. What really pissed me off was something else..... I was paying cash, and as I handed Luna my bills she asked would you like change back? I said yes. Twice she asked me and then gave me this look like you're not leaving a tip?! She asked me again, you want ALL of it back?...Yes, I said....As I wanted to manage the tip situation with Kim herself upon a little chat before heading out. What made this even worse was, as Luna was giving me back my change...she dropped every single nickel, dime and Loonie on the desk. Before giving me ....this judgemental look. Every single minute of that enjoyable experience in that salon before checkout crashed and burned. Ok....I'll tell you....it wasn't even the money. I felt judged. I did speak with Kim afterwards outside only to be fair, as I wanted her to know, because she is a great stylist. However, it is exactly due to people like the front desk girl Luna cashing me out that I will not return here. I'm sad to say. Hair salons are like any other businesses. Reception is everything. The first thing the customers experiences and the last thing the customer leaves with...either brings them back or not. Interestingly, Upon arrival, the front girl was someone else and her energy and service matched an upscale environment, professional and courteous. Pity for them she wasn't the one at the front as I was leaving. If you are the reception for the evening, it is not your business how much tip clients leave or choose not to leave. It is however, your business to problem solve which she didn't do. At all. "The website is not accurate" is all she gave me with a blank stare. She didn't even attempt to ask or consult my stylist about the fee confusion, or to ask management to look into the matter and honor what could have simply been an honest misunderstanding. She just dropped my change as you would throw a street performer without a second thought, as to customer satisfaction or your own professional responsibility to the salon and its owner. If it weren't for Kim's great cut they'd only get 1 star.

I decided to try this place again, and booked my first haircut with Zen. I could tell that he is popular as I had to book my appointment one month before to get a slot. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Zen at the front door. He asked if I have appointment, and proceeded to ask for my vaccine card and ID before letting me in. Once seated, he asked me what kind of hair style I wanted to get. I described to him, the length and the image I wanted. Then he told me to move to the hair washing station, he washed my hair and gave me head massage. When I get back to my seat, he gave me mini shoulder massage. It was a very relaxing experience! We had a bit of casual conversation throughout the haircut experience, about his background and where he came from. I specifically asked for short bangs and he asked my daily routine. He wanted to make sure that he cut my bangs to the style that I can maintain everyday. I was really happy with the result. The price is slightly more expensive than with other stylist or other places, but it is totally justifiable. Nit, on the website, it says that haircut include eyebrow cut, but he did not offer it maybe due to COVID-19?

However, when I sat down, Ada start to cut my hair and spraying water. I thought maybe she will wash my hair later. She didn't; she just said she would put some moroccan oil on my hair because my hair was dry. I was skeptical about it because when I was at another hair salon, the hairstylist put the moroccan oil after my hair has been washed. Then she asked Richard to turn on the curler. I felt odd because I didn't ask for my hair to be curly. I was the last customer of the day. She just kept cutting and then she curled the ends of my hair. She said, "I want you to have a different style. Do you know the star XXX? She looks nice with this hairstyle." But that is not what I'd asked for; I just want my hair to be straight with layers and the ends trimmed. She also said," I bought the curler for $100 but now curlers are so cheap, only $40 something. You see how I curled the hair? I will teach you next time." It was strange that she said that; no hairstylists would say that when they curled your hair. It was 30 degrees outside but she asked Richard to turn off the air conditioning. Saving electricity? I don't know why. She kept cutting then she asked me to stand up to let her see my hair. She said she would see my hair better if I stand up. If she cannot cut my hair using the mirror nor just by looking at my face while I was sitting, she is genuinely unprofessional. This is the first time that a hairstylist asked me to stand up in order for him/her to cut the hair. The phone rang after a few seconds, I sat down as she went to answer the phone. When she took off the towel on my shoulder and the protective coat that I wore after she finished cutting my hair. She said. "Wait, your hair." The she cut the ends of my hair again on my shirt and she said, "Don't move" as her scissor was close to my neck. It is really unprofessional for the hairstylists to cut the hair again after they took off the towel and the protective coat. She charged me the price of a single cut at the end. However, I never ask for a single cut only; I expect the haircut includes shampoo and blow dry. Also, I, the client, shouldn't need to stand up for her to see and to cut my hair; that just means she is unskillful. Moreover, she shouldn't cut the client's hair after taking away the towel and the protective coat from his/her clothes. Importantly, she didn't cut the hairstyle that I, the client, had asked for. She had done a hairstyle that she wants instead. If she is that arrogant, then I will just try another hair salon. P.S. After I washed my hair that night and the curls were gone, I realized that my hair on the right side is half inch shorter than my hair on the left side. I suspect that the good reviews were written by their relatives or friends, or just for a discount from the hair salon. Their prices are not cheap; same prices as other Chinese hair salons. The owners (Ada and Richard) are not professional at all, regarding their skills and service. There are better choices of Chinese hair salons in Vancouver.
