We had them out for our son's birthday party and I gotta say it went well. It was refreshingly different and he handled the kids well and kept them engaged despite the party having like 15/16 kids. It was a large group for sure. He arrived early and was set up on time. He stayed a bit longer than expected. He was professional yet fun and dealt with some of the difficult kids like a pro. I can't recall his name, but think he was from Sweden originally. The show was fun and he taught them magic tricks and did a magic show. Apparently he inspired a few of the kids to learn magic as weeks after the party they are practicing what they learned as well as learning new tricks. That's cool to see. This camp changed my life! I'm an adult summer camp director in New Mexico, and I can credit SO much of my skills and talent to attending this program as a camper and counselor. It's the perfect place to explore your weird, and be surrounded by other odd balls and learn skills from juggling to confidence. read more

We are obsessed with this camp. My son just had his first summer attending, he did 2 weeks. I'm so glad we booked that second week, because he loved it so much 1 week was not at all enough! My son is 6, so one of the younger campers, and we were a little worried about sending him to a "big kid camp." But everything was so incredibly well organized, and there are so many counselors - it was clear that all the kids were in good hands. They kept him engaged all day, and he came home excited to show us all the new tricks he learned. His confidence and showmanship blossomed, too! Illusion mystery and magic! A camp for the aspiring performer or magician. Summer is a time filled with "what the heck are we going to do with the kids now that school is out?" We traditionally spend thousands every summer putting our boys in camp after camp trying to keep the busy, out of trouble, and entrained. This year I tried to spice it up with an improve camp and a "magic camp". The magic camp was a two week camp and it was not cheap, but as it turns out it was worth much more then we paid for it! My son enjoyed every minute of this camp and would have liked to go more! He learned stage performance, he learned the art of magic and how to entertain... he learned that it isn't all easy... but what a thrill when he pulled off the perfect trick! The camp is held in an old church, it is not the most pristine venue but it is good for what they have. My only complaint would be the young help they have... most of them are just not old enough to be responsible like they should be, engaged, or just mature enough. There needs to be a bit more adult supervision at check out, the magic stores, and in general. However don't get me wrong... the place does a great job, my son had a complete BLAST, and we were extremely happy with the camp. At the end his Wizard group put on a show for families and it was truly awesome! This is on our list for next year again! read more

My 9 yr. old son is weird and wonderful and Ben and Peter and all of the staff make certain everyone feels welcome and included. Everyone is kind and curious and my son HAD SO MUCH FUN. He has built confidence and self esteem and DELIGHTS in sharing all he learns daily at camp. Peter and Ben have so much patience and are so good at communicating with the kids and really listening to them. I feel so fortunate to have found them and we will be back next Summer according to my kiddo that had his last day today. My 9 year old son LOVES magic camp! He has attended Fantastic Magic Camp for spring break and several summer sessions and can't get enough of it. The staff genuinely loves kids and magic. I am always hesitant to give anything 5 stars but, in this case, I'd give 10 if I could! My stepson was diagnosed with ADHD at age 6. After years of trouble in school and various extracurricular activities I feared that this might be a battle we couldn't win. That was until I learned of Fantastic Magic Camp! He had already expressed an interest in magic, which was a bonus, but I had never heard of a program so suited to fit his needs. After his first day I knew this was the place for him! The curriculum was at the right pace for him so he didn't seem to get bored and was able to retain almost everything he'd learned. He came home with this new found confidence and excitement, something I'd never seen in him before. He recounted stories he heard and practiced everything he'd learned and didn't automatically give up if he didn't get it right away. At the end of his two weeks he was already talking about what he looked forward to doing next year! The staff is trustworthy, patient, and helpful. I had no reservation about leaving my child in their care. The counselors have all been campers so they have a deep understanding and passion for the camp which shows in how the camp is run. I would recommend this camp to anyone with children between 5 and 12. Fantastic Magic Camp is inclusive of all types of children and they do an amazing job of attending to all the campers needs while making them all feel special without making anyone feel different. That is the perfect balance that I know I have been searching for and I look forward to continue to be a part of in the years to come! read more

Wonderful camp experience and so much more! Our son started going to Fantastic Magic Camp when he was 9. (I only wish we'd found it sooner.) He always had a wonderful time and came away with so much. (He loved it so much, it was hard to get him to leave at the end of the day.). The camp's attitude has always been that every child is a special camper. While the camp's theme is magic and related arts (juggling and puppetry), the real things the kids learn here are life skills. And the best part is, they are learning while having fun, so they don't notice education is involved. The "more" part of "wonderful camp experience and more" is the Camp's Intern Program. Those who have a successful year as a12-year-old camper are invited (depending on anticipated staffing needs, of course) to join the Camp's four-year Intern Program, as my son was. This means that, in order to work there, you must first have been a camper at Fantastic Magic Camp The program involves over 35 hours of training (one Saturday per month starting in January) each year covering all aspects of caring for the campers. It also gives the Interns a chance to bond and become a real team. This is even more true,since most of them come back for all four years of the Program. This ensures a continuity for returning kids that most camps can't even dream about. Each year, after completing the training, they are given more responsibility in accordance with their age and previous experience. If they don't complete the required hours of training, they don't get to work at the camp. At 17, my son is now a senior counselor. . The general rule for the camp has always been that, while there is always at least one person on site old enough to rent a car (a fun way to say that there's always a "mature adult " there, just in case), the bulk of the work at the camp is done by the staff of junior and senior high school students. While my son was still a camper, I would sometimes show up early to watch the daily magic show (still a daily fixture of the camp). Periodically, I'd see some typical "kid behavior," which could have gotten out of hand if not checked. As soon as a counselor noticed (which was always pretty quickly), the situation was handled very appropriately. The camp has been in existence for over 20 years. From what I understand, the reason kids (former campers themselves) were first given responsibility back then was that the founder didn't know not to. These kids lived up to his expectations. (Something I've learned over the years - kids really will live up to - or down to - whatever expectations are put on them.) Why should you, as the parent of a potential camper, care about this? Because these interns will be caring for your kids. And they are some of the most well-trained, mature teens you will find. If your child stays with the Camp and is invited to be an Intern, do whatever it takes to get him or her to those trainings. There are so many reasons for this. First, and most practically, it means they have something to do for at least part of the summer, at an age where most kids are to old to continue on at another camp and too young to get even a summer job. Also, It's incredible how much they learn about so many different things. (Believe it or not, one of the favorite jobs of the CITs -- Counselors-in-Training -- is cleaning the bathroom. No, I don't understand it myself, but I've heard it myself from multiple interns. And, if nothing else, that's a really important life skill to have.). The more years your child remains in the Intern Program, the more useful life and leadership skills s/he will learn. It's more than worth it. read more

My daughter (6.5 yrs old) recently attended the online version of Fantastic Magic Camp over the winter break and she loved every bit of it. She was not only eager to show us the magic tricks she picked up each day, but she also took away a lot of life principles - kindness, honesty, self-discipline. Before magic camp, she had been a reluctant performer even when she really wanted to show off a skill to someone outside the family. It is really hard to find a camp that both my my kiddos like. There are twins, a boy and a girl and so like I said. I struggle to get them into the same camp, and one that they love! We went for the first time last summer for a one week session. It was the first camp ever that they actually jumped out of bed in the morning to get ready for. Not only that, but they always wanted to stay longer when I came to pick them up. They do an amazing job! Bonus, the kids come home with new awesome tricks every day. Both my kids have gone to Fantastic Magic Camp for years, and they have both loved it. Not only have the kids learned magic tricks, diablo, juggling and other cool things, they have also developed self-confidence, presence in a public setting, and the ability to engage an audience. My older son is now old enough to become a counselor, so he is currently in the magic camp's training program for new counselors. That has also been wonderful - he is learning how to be responsible for others, manage projects, deal with conflict, build work relationships, and many other life skills. My seven year old twins LOVED magic camp. Camp directors and counselors are deeply respectful of the intelligence of children, meeting them where they are and fostering their confidence to try new things. My daughter, who tends to be cautious about risk felt safe enough to try a unicycle and perform a magic trick on video. My son's already deep interest in magic grew each day he was at camp. The other children at the camp were kind. I can't say whether this was the influence of the camp, a self-selection process, or good luck, but I suspect it is a combination of the first two. I am so grateful to have found a place where my children can express their unique selves, take pride in learning, and have fun! read more

Our second year doing this camp. It is one of the best. My kids have fun in a safe, fun learning environment. Bullying is not allowed and will be dealt with immediately. They want the kids to have confidence and have fun while learning magic tricks. Peter helped my five year old daughter after she was upset about not getting enough tickets after the girls pooled their tickets. Amazing experience for both my boys! They both gave magic shows at home to the family after attending. :) The older one has participated in the leadership program and as a junior counselor after attending as a camper for two years. My son has been going to Magic Camp for years, since he was 5 or 6. He even had an epic 7th birthday party there with a performance from Peter ... it was unforgettable. He absolutely loves coming to Magic Camp, over holiday breaks, special workshops, and summer camp of course. Peter and Ariel (and all the counselors) are always upbeat, welcoming, and have a way of making every child feel special and valued. I am grateful that we stumbled across the camp when we did, because it instilled a love of magic and performing in my son. I would have sworn I have already written many 5-star reviews, since they deserve laudatory praise, but somehow I missed "yelp"...?! Our son went to magic camp the first week after kindergarten ended and loved it. Now at the end of the summer, he's still proudly doing the magic tricks he learned for us and for friends. We've been to a couple of other summer camps since, which have also been great, but magic camp is still the kid-voted favorite! We got a good deal for that first week, but overall it's more expensive than the other camps we've done - not something we could do for the whole summer, but I'm sure we'll be back for a week or two each summer and I recommend it for other families. read more

Before we learned about the camp my son was relying on YouTube videos and written instruction to learn magic tricks. Both my boys love this camp. We feel like Fantastic Magic Camp is the best camp they ever attended. After they came back from this past spring break camp, we've already registered them for the summer camp. The camp director, magicians and counselors are such good educators. They have passion to teach kids not only magics also help build their confidence in themselves. They made the camp experience huge fun. My boys got so much encouragement to open up and keep on practicing and bring out the best performance of themselves. By presenting quite a few shows of their newly learned magic tricks to our relatives, friends and neighbors, we began to realize how much joy and laughter the magic could bring to people. We're very thankful for all camp staffs who did a fantastic job to build a fantastic environment for kids to grow and enjoy their precious childhood.
