This very popular Chinese offers a tremendously diverse menu in comparison with your average…read moretakeaway and offers a pleasant culinary experience whether you're eating in or taking away. As with most Chinese restaurants, soothing flute instrumentals of popular songs are played at a low volume for customers and the tables inside are decorated with red and white tablecloths and laid out with both chopsticks and knives and forks. The menu offers all the usual curries, stir fries and starters you'd expect, but then exceeds expectations with its diverse selection of seafood dishes, all of which sound very appetising, but are sadly quite pricey. Pale, click-and-fit wooden floors and white wallpapered walls give the restaurant a sort of clinical feeling and the ambience inside definitely isn't quite up to scratch, but the staff are friendly and relaxed (they don't try to rush you out of your seat) and in my experience, the food is always of a good standard.

Seriously top notch Chinese food…read more What I ordered over 2 visits within a 4 day period... - Crispy seaweed Great little appetizer that is the perfect combo of salty sweet. Enough for 1 or 2 people max. - BBQ spare ribs NOTE: this is chinese BBQ, not American BBQ style -- so the sauce is a thick red color, that's perfectly sweet and spicy. Meat was the perfect amount of tenderness, where the meat falls off the bone, without ALL of it coming off at once. Great value, decent portion size. Enough for 1-3 people. - Duck Pancakes The name puts a lot of Americans off, but anyone who has tried this, always orders it again. I'd say 70% of the tables in the restaurant had this item... duck is really well butchered, cooked and falls straight off the bone. Plum sauce is perfect, everything perfect. So good. 1/4 duck enough for 1-2 people. - Crispy shredded beef Crispy, and sweet. Exactly what you crave when you decide it's a chinese food kinda night. I've had other versions of this where the beef strands are a little bigger, that I actually prefer, but the dish was still good. Good portion size 2-3 people - Crispy squid Salty, crispy, with sweet dipping sauce. More of the same -- another awesome dish that satisfies everything you look for in a chinese meal. Prices can run up to 20 per person for food, with approx. 1 starter and 2 entree dishes (you'll be full!)... Worth every penny and already craving it again!

There is an open floor plan through-out but there are more private areas. The restaurant has a lovely but small outdoor seating area. Inside it is quiet big as it seats up to 50 people. Moving onto what you really care about, the food! Their menu covers a wide range of dishes including my favourites: peeking duck and sweet and sour chicken. I even had a go at eating them with chop sticks and didn't do too badly. The speciality starters are about £5.00 and the mains are about £10.00. This might sound like a lot but I found the portions just right. Not so filling that I felt stuffed and not so little that I was still hungry. Unfortunately their menu doesn't have any deserts but I wasn't too disheartened by this as the main meal was so delicious and moorish, plus I'm not a huge fan of deserts. As well as this the service is good as we didn't have to wait too long for the food and the staff are friendly, polite and seemed to have a good attitude towards what they do .

The food is always excellent, the service is always amazing (and we always receive serviettes) I really don't have much more to say, there is nothing I don't like about the China Garden - it is of an excellent quality.

The décor inside has a great deal of charm and the staff were fairly friendly. When my meal was served I noticed the plate was cold and chipped. The starters of BBQ spare ribs and crispy duck were very tasty and the sauce was sticky and moreish. I decided on having two starters for my main, BBQ spare ribs and Thai Chicken wings. Even though I'd devoured an entire rib cage for my starter and main I must say that the BBQ ribs are a great specialty of this restaurant. The wings were raw in the middle; I sent them back and got a new plateful. Again, these were under cooked and I was given a poor excuse as to why they were undercooked. They told me that the blood in the middle would do me no harm. I disagreed. I have had great experiences at this restaurant in the past, but this did put me off. I should have ordered a main course, which would have been a better idea. Despite my difficulties here, I will probably come again based on past experience. I'm not going to let one bad experience put me off.

The decor is great and the service is good too but we soon got a little idea of what happened behind closed doors. Put it this way the health and safety inspector could have a field day! However the standards of the starters have vastly improved as we ate some delicious spring roles' but our mains were still disgusting! I ordered chicken and not only was the crispy sea weed greasy but our food was bombarded with spice; I like spicy food but not to the point where you can't taste much else. Maybe this was just one bad experience because other people looked and sounded satisfied. On this experience, the only thing I liked about Shirley Temple was their service, decoration and the prices are reasonable for portions. Bottom line is there are much better restaurants to go to and I won't be going back here for a long while.
