When I contacted customer service, I spoke with Ashe, who informed me that Big John has a verbal policy in place that drivers cannot go upstairs or enter the building. However, this policy was not stated on the website or app. After placing another order for cash delivery, I was informed by Ashe that the driver would not come upstairs. Despite explaining that I have a disability that makes it difficult for me to go downstairs, Ashe gave me a five-minute ultimatum and threatened to blacklist me. This behaviour constitutes a breach of the 2010 Act on Harassment/victimization. As a customer with a disability, I feel that I was not treated with the same consideration as able-bodied customers. Ash was very clear that failure to come downstairs would result in being blacklisted. This made me feel victimized and pressured, especially as the driver only gave me two minutes to get downstairs, which was virtually impossible due to my disability. Despite explaining my situation, the driver continued to call me multiple times, putting a lot of pressure on me. This mistreatment has led me to seek legal advice. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it downstairs in the given time frame, as I was struggling with the stairs. I regret to inform you that the food I received was lukewarm and not hot, which made it almost cold. I was disappointed with the experience and felt mistreated. As evident from my history, I am a frequent patron of your services. However, I must bring to your attention that the driver assigned to my recent delivery has constant pressure to get downstair. That familiar warmth that washes over me as I see the pink on green colour scheme, and the way that the words 'Famous Five' makes me think of chicken nuggets rather than Enid Blyton perhaps says a lot about my relationship with Birmingham's fast food institution. My relationship with Big John's on the Bristol Road went from a curious first meeting at the outlet opposite the Vauxhall Garage beyond Millenium Point, to a passionate few months of indulgence following a move to Selly Oak (The Bristol Road Big John's stood between my house and the train station as a constant temptation). Following dieting and vegetarianism, we're not really on speaking terms at present, sadly. Perhaps the best reason to visit Big John's on the Bristol Road lies in its rivalry with Pizza Pepper next door, which has led to an outrageous price war between both establishments, slashing pizza prices to less than 50% (In real terms, a massive 12" pizza from Big John's is a steal at £4.99). While Pizza Pepper's pizzas are less drenched in grease, Big John's has a small advantage by letting customers pick as much of their own toppings as they'd like. For example, my usual would be cheese, pepperoni, jalapenos, chinese chicken, regular chicken, red onions, peppers, mince, a second layer of cheese and a top layer of pepperoni - ONLY in that order. While the shame of struggling home with such a large box past masses of people waiting for busses might hurt for a while, the dinner (and following breakfast of leftovers) will be well worth the while. Besides pizza, Big John's covers a large variety of chip shop regulars, peri-peri chicken, kebabs, kid's meals and even paninis. These are all mostly inexpensive, with the 'Famous Five' deal in Selly Oak remaining an old favourite. When I moved to Selly Oak two years ago, a fairly small - but still generous - portion of six chicken nuggets and chips, a slice of pizza and chips, a donner meat burger, one piece of chicken and chips or four hot wings and chips were all available for £1 each, which proved to be a very tempting proposition at first. Following two jumps in price to £1.25, then £1.50 a few weeks ago, it remains a good deal but is less likely to make me count my change in the street like it used to. Perhaps over-indulgence has overshadowed my relationship with the Big John's in Selly Oak, but it continues to open new stores and keep customers happy with a large and often pretty tasty menu, so it must be doing something right. read more

The Big Johns in Quinton has always provided excellent service and good quality food to us, but make sure you get there early at lunch times at it gets very busy. They do a huge menu, a £1.25 menu such as nuggets, pizza, burger, sausage and chips. Also they do fresh pizzas made for you which are very cheap. You can also get wraps, kids meals, fish & chips. The staff are usually friendly and although some cant speak English fluently, they still give service with a smile, and give you bundles of food. Coming onto the portion sizes they are quite big leaving you full after. On average you could probally feed a familly of 5 a full meal for under £10. read more

I went to the Selly Oak branch of Big John's, a small take away restaurant chain that has a few stores throughout Birmingham. I really enjoyed the Big John's in Kings Heath and Shirley and was starting to think that they had the potential to monopolise the fast food market in the Midlands. The Selly oak branch quashed this positive outlook for me. The Selly Oak branch of Big John's is a lot smaller than a lot of its stores. It opens at 10.30pm and is empty till lunchtime. They sell a large variety of food in a very cramped environment. The whole Birmingham franchise seems a little confused. They are not quite a chip shop; they are not quite a kebab house. They sell everything that the aforementioned sell. They also do a good line in Pizzas and again have copied the McDonalds style service system. I wish Big John's all the best for the future, but I believe they must lineate their product range as at times I have walked out without ordering because they sell far too many food products and meals. read more

Oh, Big John, you must be a very big man indeed, a lover of all food. You welcome every type of fast food with open arms, not discriminating against any offering of greasy, calorie-addled junk. And we love you for it. Nowhere else in Birmingham can you go at all hours of the day or night to find such a mish-mash hodge-podge of fast food. Curry, kebabs, pizza, Chinese, burgers, fish and chips, chicken sandwiches, fish shop chips, curly fries, lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Big John's is a big, dirty take-away hub of delectable treats listed above. There are no seats, you just queue up and order your food. There are about 8 tills, and every time I've been there, it's needed them, as the queue at each one has been about ten people long. The pizza here is soooo good, very freshly made, with a large one coming in at £11, and feeding four people easily. The chicken breast sandwich is really tasty and fresh, and the fries are nice and crisp. Big John's only accept cash, so you have to be prepared for your trip there. I ordered via there website which had some offers which looked good, but the offer I liked was not at the closest big John's but I thought if it was too far to be delivered I would just collect it and so I made my order expecting it to say it was too far for delivery but as it didn't I just assumed it would be made a delivered from the closest branch, 2 hours later I had a phone call from big John's customer service asking why I had made the order from that branch, I explained and told him the offer was only available from that branch and I just thought the order would be transferred to the nearest branch to me and as there website had let me order there would not be a problem, he then told me I was wrong and all the offers were available in all branches to this I said I'd be happy to come to his branch and show him to which he he just said I didn't need to show him as I was wrong, he then told me he would have to throw all the food I'd ordered away as it was too far to be delivered and he would have to transfer the order to a nearer branch, as it was only 6pm and the delivery was for 7:30pm it seems odd to be making a pizza 90 mins early and also why did he not check the address first?, he continued to moan at me and so I just put the phone down as after 13 hours work that was the last thing I wanted to listen to. At 7:50 (20 minutes late) my order turned up, I thanked the driver and brought the meal in, opened it only to find the chips, po and cake all missing, so I phoned big John's and the same so called customer service man answered and just made lite of it saying the rest of the order was probably in the drivers footwell of his car (not even giving a apologie), at 8:30 a different driver turned up with what had been missing in the first delivery and of course by then the chips were a waste of time as the pizza had been eaten and the pop was also too late to be enjoyed with the meal. I emailed big John's explaining all of this I did then get a apologie but that that was all, a good business would offer some form of gratuitie to try and put things right but not big john. This place is perfect after you have been to the pub, when you order a pizza you get to choose what toppings you want, they have loads to choose from and the pizzas come in different sizes. Came here around a month ago. Being a student the budget meals attracted me straight away, alongside the funky decore. However, once in the fast food restaurant my order took forever - that wasn't just cooking it but paying for it as the young men behind the till clearly had no experience what so ever. It took nearly 10 minutes to use the card machine. The team just looked completely over whelmed and there was only two sets of customers to serve at this point. Alongside this they were rude, hostile and not apologetic at all. Once we had took the food and arrived home - we were absolutely disgusted by it. I am not a picky eater and I have never not ate food I have paid for! I had a salsa wrap and it was completely inedible! My boyfriend and I both left all the food (minus a few bites) and will definitely not be returning to Big Johns ever again. Vile. read more

Ah, the amazing brumme chain chippy! For a number of years I didn't realise this place was part of a chain - i just knew it was incredibly cheap. Unbelievably cheap. Competition killingly cheap. I've been going to Big John's for about 7 years now and I must say that they are absolutely fantastic. They have never let me down in that entire period of time. I don't tend to like fast food places mainly because of bad hygiene and not good value for money. At Big John's every thing is well prepared and well presented and not to mention cheap. The only down side is that the place is so popular with locals, it will take you some time to order as the ques get massive especially at lunch time. read more

Yelp scouts normally steer clear of big chain businesses such as Big Johns but I am such a fan of their Selly Oak outlet that I decided it deserved a little bit of recognition. It's not that this particular outlet provides any services that other Big Johns do not but the speed and efficiency of the staff makes it stand out from the rest. This place is always busy, particularly on a weekend evening; however do not let that put you off as the staff will work with speed to deliver your food in no time at all. As you may be aware Big Johns allow you to choose your own selection of pizza toppings, meaning individually tailored pizzas. I have witnessed a particularly difficult customer drunkenly ordering all manner of oddities in the Selly Oak branch and I have to say that the staff maintained patience and professionalism throughout. All in all this is an appraisal of the staff rather than the business itself. read more

Went to the new Big John's in West Brom last night and I was expecting the wait and we did have to wait 25mins to get served so no problem as long as the food was good but my god it was DIRE ! The place was filthy with food all over the floor and tables, no staff cleaning up, the staff were poorly trained and when I placed my order of Balti Chicken & chips for me, Pizza for the daughter & Wife and a cheese burger for my son the server got the cheese burger ready put it in a bag then my chips, then strolled along chatting and laughing with the other giggling servers, got my rice in a plastic carton and placed it in the microwave for a bit, then put that in the bag (by this time it was 5 mins since the burger was put in the bag)...strolled along again to get my chicken balti in another plastic carton, microwaved that one also then put that in the bag, then told us to go to another pizza counter to get our pizza made up and cooked by this time it was over 10 mins since the original burger and chips were put in the bag.we went to the counter to wait another 10 mins for someone to serve us, make up the pizza and cook it for a further 10 mins !!!.....All of this time ment the food in our bag was STONE COLD and it wasn't until complaing many many times about this and threatened to demand my money back that someone with more than one brain cell decided to act I will keep this warm for yo....YES under a light !!! Got home 500 yards from the Big John's and threw it in the bin.it was ruined !! First and LAST time I go to Big John's and after this experience I would think that this time next year the place will be boarded up with a bit of luck !! i dont mind big johns, its cheap fast food. nothing special but they have a nice range and you get served quick enough. its right by the train station, so its ideal for ppl catchin the train etc, its on the main road, so easily accessable. its open late which is fab for people comin out the pubs etc. read more

i just visited big johns drive thru in water links birmingham with my family, we ate in, am a fast food freak, so i now my fast food, i must admit there food is second to none, and the price is a little dear but not expensive. but the only think i was very disappointed from was there lack of hygene, tables were dirty, with other customers food left over, and the toilets, very very filthy, the floor had food all over it, i can understand the fact that it was busy, but thats not the point, if your dealing with customer satisfaction, you must do your best to keep up standerds. i have never liked Mcdonalds food, and havent ate from there in last 10 years, i thought this outlet was a good sobstitute, but although i'l give 9/10 for food. the hygene was 2/10. good luck for the future but i wount be coming back again. read more

Big Johns is a bit out of the main Selly Oak area but its still worth a visit. Their large pizzas are brilliant and you can have every topping on it from the selection which makes a great pizza. The one pound deals are great value, but dont visit at about 4:00pm on a saturday as it gets very busy and the queue will be quite tedious. I have used Big Johns ever since it first opened in Selly Oak over 10 years and for the first few years it was a good place to get good quality food at a fair price. Since the refit about 5 years ago i noticed that the food had gone downhill to the point where i decided no longer to go to Big Johns. Anyway i thought id give Big Johns another chance tonight to see if things had improved since my last visit a while ago. To conclude i must say that the food was not nice at all, the chips tasted like they had been cooked in stale old oil and were sickly , the kebab meat was dry and not tasty at all. It was that bad i couldn't eat it and it ended up in the bin. Never again will i be buying food from Big Johns. read more

You can tell the guys in here love the drunken banter that usually results from visiting a place like this. Lots of different fast food, the cheesy chips are good (on a par with adams place) and if you go towards the end of the night you might get some freebies - depends on who is working. at busy times you have to wait a while so time your visit properly! read more

we love big johns in west brom. i always go through the driver thru and never have to wait long for our order. you'd think with prices that cheap the food would be vile but it isnt i had a chicken meat and chips today only 99p the chicken was beautiful better then anywere else ive eaten in west brom. its geat!!!! dont know where id be without it. my daughters 3yrs old and she loves there milkshakes plus its open till 5am on fridays and saturdays. my husband is not so keen though sour puss.... read more
