I was at a friend's house last night and we decided to have a Chinese take away. I was quite hungry…read moreand had been looking forward to a relatively healthy rice based dish. I hate it when there is too much oil in my food; this is something that I often encounter with Chinese food. I ordered diced chicken with ginger and spring onions with rice. When I got the food back it was served in plastic containers, easily transferable to any plate. The dish was very healthy and the flavours from the ginger and spring onion were delicious. We also shared some chips which were very nice. I have always liked the chips that are served in Chinese takeaways. The have a distinctive flavour about them, one that is different to the ones served in regular chip shops. The food was eaten in an instant, despite having to wait twenty minutes for it to arrive. They deliver to Moseley so I will most likely be coming back here again.

Feeling greedy and lazy on Easter Sunday meant we popped into Bournville Lane Chinese for their eat…read moreas much as you can. It says "like", but let's face it, who can eat as much as they want when it's Chinese food?! BLCR's offering isn't buffet style with food sitting out under lamps getting drier and tasteless; instead you order of a menu and it's cooked fresh for you. As always the staff there are friendly and passionate about making sure you have a good time, and on hand to offer suggestions if you're stuck being spoilt for choice. Food-wise it's fairly standard fare, but that's not to say it's not great. Like other reviewers I'm always pleased when Chinese food comes to the table without being layered in grease and this occasion was no exception. From the Yuk Sung, through the crispy seaweed to the Char Sui Pork it was all delicious.

Stirchley Kebab House

I only tend to visit Kebab houses when I have had far too many drinks. I usually start getting this…read morecraving for greasy kebabs and chips, which does not happen at all when I am sober, honest! So after a few too many I have stumbled into here before, quite literally and ordered myself a kebab. The staff, from what I remember, are always quite nice and friendly and I did not have to wait long to place my order. When I went in the place was full of other intoxicated people and so I did not feel like the only wobbling customer. The price of the kebab was cheap from what I remember as I got change! The kebab itself was good, greasy and tasty and just what I needed to soak up the alcohol. Overall, this is a good kebab house.

Stirchley Kebab House is the kind of establishment I would describe as hit and miss. On occasion I…read morehave popped in for fish and chips and enjoyed a crispy cod on a bed of golden chips which has satisfied me immensely. However on other occasions I have eaten a meal which has been overly greasy, lacking in flavour and quite frankly below par. I'm not quite sure why the quality is so erratic here and I feel it is a real shame as this place has the potential to be an excellent fish and chip shop. One thing I will say is that the staff here are unwaveringly brilliant in terms of their attitude to the customer. I have never visited this establishment without being greeted by huge smiles and a friendly chat and clearly those who work here work very hard indeed. There are certainly much worse chip shops in Brum and if you catch Stirchley Kebab House on a good day then you are in for a treat.

This place is nearby to the fabulous Strichley Wines and I've often popped in for a takeaway snack…read morewhen I've stocked up on booze in the best off-licence in Brum. I have a particular weakness for meat that has been through the whole tandoori process and I'm fairly unable to walk past a place such as this without popping in for some chicken, or a shami kebab. I've not had a takeaway from here, but if the snacks I've picked up from here are anything to go by then it would be a good call if you wanted a meat feast! It doesn't look much from the outside, granted, but it's worth a go, I would say.

I decided to check out Pershore Road's Dilkush due to so many great reviews about the restaurant…read moreand take-away service on the Just Eat website. However, I think some of those reviews must be absolute lies as I found that the food was not of standard at all. I had hard clumps of something in my Pilau Rice and where the hell was the Lamb at in my Lamb Rogan Josh? It felt like I had a good four lumps of meat within my Rogan Josh and that was my curry done and eaten... For most of my meal I was eating the clumpy Pilau Rice with the sauce off my Rogan Josh! I was not impressed at all with the quality of the food and wouldn't recommend, suggest or even think of going back to this restaurant. I found that it wasn't worth my money at all and as it cost me five pounds and forty pence in total, I think I could have been given a Rogan Josh with more meat in it and rice that didn't have crunchy aspects of it. A big NO!

I used to go here back in the day when I was at sixth form across the road. Instead of sandwiches…read moreor school dinners we'd sometimes nip to the chippie to grab a scallop or if we felt more indulgent a mini fish and chips. Returning recently I thought the chips were as great as I'd remembered them but I've tasted better battered cod. It may very well be one of those things where the taste and smell attributed to fond memories can rarely be recaptured exactly as you remembered them. It wasn't very busy when I went and for my local chippies the queue can sometimes be out the door. It may not be the most attractive of chip shops from the outside but definitely a great place to pick up a cone of chips.

The fish and chips are fairly reasonably priced and always of a good quality. It's not quite to the standard of Dads Lane, but few are. It is easier to park outside this place, which might just swing it for you if you are in a hurry. This place is famous mostly for being a landmark, and it's fairly unique for Birmingham for a landmark that isn't a roundabout or a pub. Ask a Brummie for directions and you will be given a list of pubs and traffic islands that get you from A to B. Ask a Brummie for directions around the B14 & B30 postcodes and the Pineapple Fish Bar will almost certainly crop up. Bit of local trivia for you, there.
