    Crab rangoons
    Laura C.

We got a variety of rolls: salmon avocado, spicy tuna, Philadelphia, and shrimp tempura. We also got crab rangoons. The salmon avocado maki was perfect, melt in your mouth delicious. The spicy tuna was ok, they added tempura to it and it wasn't called crispy spicy tuna so we were thrown by that and it wasn't spicy at all and I have a very low spice tolerance. The Philadelphia roll was extremely disappointing. It was imitation crab and cream cheese instead of smoked salmon cucumber and cream cheese and we hate imitation crab so this was pretty terrible...we have ordered a Philadelphia roll from many sushi places and this was the first time someone strayed from the norm so was really annoying. The shrimp tempura roll was weird..idk if its just because we got takeout, but it seems like they took the tops/ends off of it and put them in a separate box...we were confused and thought we got the wrong order at first. The tops were pretty good because they were just fried shrimp covered in sauce. The roll itself was decent, but not crispy enough. Ans pretty small for shrimp tempura. The crab rangoons were OK. I appreciated the star shape which is objectively the best crab Rangoon shape, and the sauce was a nice spicy/sweet plum sauce. But the rangoons themselves were almost sickening sweet so I wasn't really a fan. My partner thought they were OK but agrees they were too sweet. Overall, not super impressed. The salmon avocado roll was great, but not sure it is enough for us to want to go back.

We really tried to give it a good shot but unfortunately this sushi restaurant fell short. Besides the service, which was very friendly everything else was not good. The restaurant itself was spacious and appeared clean. My Husband and I ordered a Ramen and it actually came out lukewarm. Soup is supposed to be hot, right? We mentioned it to the female owner and she offered to bring us some fresh hot broth... I don't know where they were getting the broth from, but it was far from hot. And honestly, lacked a ton of flavor besides salt. I also hate when places give you a hard boiled egg in Ramen. After the second time, we just gave up. Now let's talk about the sushi... we ordered two rolls New York Roll and Godzilla rolls. Honestly, my pictures are deceiving. The rolls look pretty good, but everything about them just tasted off. The Godzilla was our least favorite - (Imitation)Spicy Tuna Deep Fried.w.Eel Sauce Spicy Mayo Sauce.Spicy crab Masago Crunchy & scallion On Top $14.95. The inside tasted mushy and not fresh. The New York roll - (Raw)(Imitation)Shrimp Tempura & Tuna Inside.Avocado, Crab & Tobiko On Top.Served w.Chef Sauce $16.95 was just plain and bland, even with the spicy mayo on top. They kept offering us takeout boxes which we respectfully declined. We are sushi connoisseurs and there is much better sushi places here in Connecticut. We wanted to like this place so bad because next-door is one of our favorite Pho spots - The Pho Bar. Unfortunately, we more than likely would not return.

Dropped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the presentation of the sashimi lunch! The fish was very fresh and beautifully plated and generous servings. The service was so friendly and food came out pretty quickly. The ambience is very modern and quiet and enjoyable. Will definitely stop by if we aren't in the air again!

This has been on my radar since they opened. Finally made time to go here for a late lunch and happy I did! First of all the restaurant feels very clean (probably helps that it's new). Our host/server was super nice and helpful. They bring out complimentary tempura crab and soup as soon as you sit down which I thought was a nice touch. They have lunch specials but we ended up ordering specials that weren't on it - wish she mentioned the specials but I guess we should have read the menu better to know. Oh well, our loss. The sushi was delicious and tasted fresh. They have a ton of great options and I would definitely return to get some again. It's a little out of my way but it is good enough to drive a little bit further.

This was my first visit at Fancy Sushi and went for the lunch Special on a Sunday by 3 pm. I was greeted, friendly faces. The restaurant is lovely. Very modern and open. Even has tables outside! What brought me in to try was that they had GF options. Not listed on the menu but they were able to make certain dishes GF and they had gluten free soy sauce. The sushi rolls were very good! Very fresh. I chose basic rolls. For hibachi portions were big. Noodles were very good and gluten free. They gave me steamed rice since fried rice was not an option as Gluten free. The protein for meat wasn't a lot and lacked some flavor everything else was good. Salad and soup tasted great. I'd def return and try something else! Great lunch and dinner options with a wide variety From sushi, to hibachi to Ramen, Noodles, Katsu and more! .

I've been looking forward to Fancy Sushi's opening in the old Boss Grill space. The inside is completely transformed. Fancy Sushi is instantly one of the nicer looking sushi restaurants in the Greater Hartford area. There are about twenty tables of different sizes, plus a sushi bar with tall chairs. There are tall ceilings, walls with different cool textured designs. The space has a very modern, clean feel and my eyes were drawn to artistic accents and light fixtures across the room. Service was very friendly and efficient. Fancy Sushi has a good team in place to handle larger crowds once the word gets out. Sushi is a focus, but the menu items include Hibachi, Katsu, Japanese apps, Ramen, Noodles, etc. I ordered the Triple Color Roll from the speciality maki menu and the Fancy Crisp Spicy Tuna from the Apps menu. Both were gorgeously plated and I suspect that will be a strength. The Fancy Crisp Tuna, to my surprise, was essentially an elegant sushi-fied jalapeno popper. They were served on a long plate and included jalapeño's, cream cheese, spicy tuna, caviar, scallions, sesame and sauce. If you're on the fence about jalapeños, this one was pretty mild. It was a cool dish. The Triple Color Special Roll was a shrimp tempura roll with some raw fish (spicy tuna, salmon, tuna and Yellow tail) as well. Beautifully plated and sauced. It tasted good. I've been to outstanding CT sushi places in the past year. Fancy Sushi isn't quite at that level in terms of taste and texture at this point, but I can confidently say that they're one of the better sushi places in the greater area. I live nearby, and I will definitely be back for both dine in and takeout. If I could give Fancy Sushi a 4.5, I would. Since I can't, this feels more like a round down than round up situation. But this is an enthusiastic 4 Star review in any event.

I haven't had this good of a meal from a new Japanese restaurant in a long time. Many restaurants have already come in and out of this new-ish plaza that is conveniently yet not conveniently located on the Berlin side of the Berlin Turnpike. Not much to do on this side except shop for an Acura or cross the street and go to Home Depot but if you want good sushi, it's worth coming down to Fancy Sushi. I was able to try various sushi rolls, appetizers their Steak Hibachi Dinner and a few desserts. I was disappointed with zero (0) of these dishes. To start off, I had a taste of a special Crab Tempura topped with a cheese sauce, Mushroom Soup, Wasabi Shumai, Tuna Tataki and Beef Tataki. Everything was great and I decided to be a little adventurous with the Beef Tataki. The beef was tender and it had an amazing flavor to it. While raw-ish beef is definitely not an American comfort food, I was definitely comfortable eating this because it was prepared so well. Moving on to the sushi, I noticed the menu itself had quite a wide variety which was really refreshing to see. Blue Crab Meat in one (1) of my special rolls and to see Lobster Tempura in a basic roll, unheard of around here. On top of that, all the sushi I ate was of great quality and was prepared quite nicely. I had to try their hibachi and I went with the Steak Hibachi Dinner. The steak tender and juicy, plus it was cooked exactly how I wanted it. The vegetables were well seasoned and not overcooked and the fried rice/hibachi noodles were good enough to be its own meal. To end it all, I was able to taste some Green Tea Ice Cream, Mango Mochi Ice Cream, Vanilla Tempura Ice Cream and Fried Oreos. The Tempura ice cream was almost cakey in a good way with a nice crispy/chewy exterior layer. The Fried Oreos were prepared well as they weren't a boat for frying oil and the other ice creams were simply good quality. Well clearly there's a wide and unique variety of food backed by quality here at Fancy Sushi. I am glad that the sushi was indeed fancy as the name states. On top of that, the interior of this restaurant was clean, modern and simply refreshing fit for hot summer days. They even have outdoor seating if that's what you're into. The service was friendly, quick and attentive as well. In conclusion, I was impressed with the quality of food I received. This plaza has been nothing but a place for restaurant owners to take a gamble as quite a few restaurants in this plaza have come and gone within the last couple years alone. With the quality of the meal I just had paired with the reasonable price point, I hope Fancy Sushi is a permanent option here on this side of the Berlin Turnpike. A much needed permanent Sushi option for the Berlin Turnpike in general.

Ambiance was cute and service was good I did a pick up order. She did ask if I needed help because I had two bags plus my lil one in my arms. So they get the good scores for that. Let's get into what we really hear for, long story short this wasn't my cup of tea no lie, (taking accountability) I over ordered leading to me wasting my money... But truth be told there wasn't anything that I ordered that had me in a chokehold. The yakitori and the fancy crunchy spicy tuna was nice, just an Asian version to a jalapeño popper In my opinion. Food was mid, honestly wasn't a fan and I'm not going to go too in-depth. This wasn't for me but it might be for you, can still give them a try, don't hurt to try. Just don't over do it like me lol.

Fancy has become our go-to for quality sushi. The restaurant is nice and bright, and always clean. The food is excellent and the service is timely and polite. They recently updated their menu and now includes even more offerings (if that's even possible)!

There's so many good things to say about Fancy Sushi.. the newer kid on the block a.k.a. turnpike you'll always be greeted with a smile. The staff and owner, Jay, bring good energy. The interior is quite large and modern by most sushi restaurant standards. Therefore, it's comfortable and can serve many at the same time. There are so many options on this menu everything from sushi to Ramen to hibachi and more. Sushi is top-notch and having now gone a few times is always consistent. My favorite is the unicorn roll,so far. Ramen hits the spot however there are so many Ramen options in the area that solely focus on that, I may stick with sushi and more traditional Japanese here. I also love their Katsu and appetizers and they have a decent selection of sake. Definitely recommend everyone check them out and tell them Sally sent you!

Fancy Sushi recently opened and we couldn't wait to give them a try. We frequent in the Berlin area often and this spot will be added to our lunch rotation. We dined in and the restaurant was really nice, open, and modern. There was beautiful blue marble tile and geometric panels on the walls around the restaurant. There is outdoor seating too if that's something you enjoy. They also do carry-out as well which we might take advantage of later. While I love sushi, my husband does not and happy to report Fancy Sushi has a lot of hot kitchen options. My mother was with us too who also doesn't eat sushi. They have hibachi, teriyaki, and Katsu dishes which are some of his favorites. They have ramen, udon, and hot appetizers too. The sushi selection is very large with regular rolls, sashimi, entrees, a la cart items, and specials rolls. Even though the menu had many options, I liked how it wasn't overwhelming. Our server was super nice and attentive. We happen to be the only group dining in the restaurant (it was 2:30 in the afternoon) He promptly brought us complimentary clear soups and shrimp tempura. We started with a couple of apps, Edamame and Crisp Rice. The Crisp Rice was sushi rice that's been deep fried and topped with spicy tune. It was delicious and the rice had a great crunch. For our meals, my husband and my mother ordered hibachi. The protein portions on their places were generous combined with mixed vegetables like zucchini and broccoli. It was served with both noodles and fried rice which they liked. I ordered the Triple Colors Roll. All their rolls sounds so delicious, but I knew I could only eat one by myself. The Triple Colors Roll had a little bit of everything; shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, tuna, salmon and yellowtail, wrapped in soy paper with eel sauce and spicy mayo. The presentation was beautiful and can't wait to see how other sushi rolls are placed in the future. This cured my sushi craving. We really enjoyed our time and meals at Fancy Sushi that my husband even agrees with this five star rating. It's a huge plus for us that the menu has variety.
