This place is AMAZING! They have so many birds and they're so knowledgeable! You can see how amazing they take care of all of their animals! They have a huge supply of toys and food and treats, none of the stuff you see at commercial stores you can tell they're incredibly responsible and well versed in bird care! If you want a bird this is the type of place to go instead of a big chain store, they're so friendly and it's such a cool place! When you get a bird they give you a ton of additional information of things to be mindful of, of course everyone should do their own research before taking on a new pet but the fact they also send you home with important things to be mindful of is amazing as well! I could've stayed there for hours! read more

PLEASE SHARE! I do not usually trash other businesses, but the public needs to know about FANCY FEATHERS EXOTIC BIRDS in Blackwood, NJ (formerly owned by Ursula Burg but sold). First... This shop was recently purchased by Dan Sheppard. Dan contacted me several months to purchase food, stating he was tired of the Goldenfeast blends. Initially, he was paying cash, but on the last two purchases, he paid by check. I just received notice that his checks totaling $1,332.11 BOUNCED plus $40 in chargeback fees! He refuses to answer his phone, respond to text messages, and has his employee contacting me with excuse after excuse! WHAT IS WORSE is that he has baby birds, store birds, and BOARDING BIRDS in his charge but NOBODY was at the store yesterday to feed and water until LATE AFTERNOON when his employee arrived to feed! People are entrusting him with the care of their beloved pets, not to mention the baby birds in his care! THE LIVES OF THESE BIRDS ARE IN JEOPARDY!!! Meanwhile, Dan was sitting at home RELAXING while the birds are left unattended! BE WARY OF THIS PLACE AND FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, DON'T BOARD YOUR BIRDS THERE! AND THE COWARD THAT HE IS: HE JUST BLOCKED ME ON FACEBOOK AND REMOVED MY REVIEW. read more

Took my beautiful UNCLIPPED sun conure and asked specifically for a nail and beak trim ONLY today while I shopped for toys. When I returned, Brenda had also CLIPPED HIS WINGS WITHOUT ASKING. I DO NOT CLIP! She apologized, but he is hesitant to come out of his cage now, wiping out seven months of trust, bonding, and training him to fly on command in my small condo when I whistle for him. Something he loved the most. Will take SEVERAL months for the wings to grow back and now will need to start all over again. Shocked and disappointed read more

I love this place - gorgeous, well taken care of birds, knowledgable staff, clean store, sweet stock - esp HUGE millet sprays - and nice prices! We usually come here when our Lovies need clips and trims, other times, for seed and/or millet & occasionally just to peruse. I enjoy talking to fellow bird lovers and Ursula. If you've never had a pet bird but love birds, pls research then come here. FF is relatively smaller than other bird stores like Bird Paradise but quality over quantity shows! My favorite breeds are Lovebirds, Caiques, Cockatoos & Conures (the males). I hope to have an Eclectus one day! read more

I have not been to enough bird stores to be able to render a 5 star review. But I am definitely a fan of this shop. When we parked I was thinking that the business looks like a house somewhat in need of TLC( much like my own) But once inside you see that all of their TLC goes to the birds. The shop itself is very clean, and features a very nice bar near the register. No booze here but I guess a spot where you can have a seat and discuss aviary stuff with the owner and employees. I was kind of expecting rows of cages but here they are separated and spaced out. And by cages I could also have written houses, some of these were just large, with others being downright huge. And none were dirty. The occupants of these houses were incredible, I really should have taken a few photos. Many were friendly and talkative, some were dancing to what appeared to be a classic rock channel. A few were even out of their cages, I guess these are the trustees. These are not parakeet type birds, they do carry a few love birds, but from there the size goes up rapidly. No prices were listed, but my gf filled me in on some estimates. Gasp. If you are looking for a bird the size of a chihuahua, this is the place to come. 4.5 finely feathered Yelps read more

This place is a GEM! We are experienced bird owners from NYC. Our Mom/Pop bird store where we were loyal patrons for over 15 years closed last year so we had to do extensive research to identify a trusted spot to find our next new family member. Getting a bird is a huge responsibility and of course, we want to feel comfortable with the care given in advance of s/he coming home with us. We called and visited numerous stores across the city, Long Island, Upstate NY, and Jersey City. So many places were disappointing for multiple reasons from uncleanliness to seemingly robotic staff members just looking to make a sale. Real bird lovers want to sell the right bird to the right person and are willing to turn people away for the sake of the bird and its future. These intelligent, sentient creatures deserve nothing less. After many disappointing experiences, we decided to widen our geography range and SO thankful we did! From the first of many phone calls beginning weeks ago to our first visit just this past Tuesday, Fancy Feathers was everything we had hoped to find. The owners, Ursula and Karl, are a thoughtful team who clearly LOVE their birds. They have established a warm, impeccably clean, safe environment filled with happy birds and positive energy. With their decades of knowledge and patience, they were able to built tremendous trust with type A, skeptical NY'ers. After months of searching, we will be picking up our new baby in a few weeks once Ursula finishes hand feeding and weaning. Is it a far trek for us...yes. Was it worth it...ABSOLUTELY! I'd pile on more stars if I could. read more

Fancy Feathers is absolutely amazing. Ursula is so wonderful and hand raised my babies so well. They have a huge variety of food and toys. I'm proud to say that I adopted my birds from here. read more

I went here to ask if you questions because I purchased a new bird from another location and the two older women inside were very judgemental and rude in the way I was asking questions and made me feel terrible even though I'm just a nervous first-time parrot mom. I was only asking questions about food and they were rudely telling me how I should feed my bird. And telling me how he shouldn't have been weaned as early as he had. I'm glad I didn't purchase my bird from here. read more

First I was scared to go inside because the outdoor area looks abandoned. Then I walked in and came across a rude employee or owner (who know) she was just rude!! I walked around briefly and left. The birds are absolutely gorgeous it's the people and small limited bird supplies who were the turnoff. Ohh and the parking is horrible too. read more

Please don't give any credence to the negative review that was left about Fancy Feathers! The owners and staff are wonderful. The birds are loved and I have never seen a dirty cage or neglect in all the years we have gone here. The cages do have toys and I have personally seen the owner prepare the most wonderful bowls of nuts and grains etc for the meals. The cages are constantly being cleaned. The birds are on perches or allowed on the cage. If any "stink eye" was given it may have been the attitude of the visitors. We buy our parrots their food there and bring them in for grooming. I love this place. They are so knowledgeable and only have the best interests of the birds in all of their actions. We have boarded our birds here often when we have gone away from home. We don't worry at all when we do because we know they are lovingly cared for. We bought our African Gray from Ursula. He was so sick when he was born and never would have made it without her intervention. read more

Very rude employees, two older women rushed us out. They wouldn't answer any questions about purchasing a bird. Just for the heads up, I have an exotic that I've had for over ten years and was looking to add another playmate, but they were so rude I didn't get to ask anything. Will go elsewhere read more

I purchased a young African Grey who was being sold on consignment from Fancy Feathers. I wasn't rushed into a purchase, and spent about an hour in the store while I made my decision. The store is clean and everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. Beamer is a joy. I will consider them first if I choose to add to my flock. read more

We got our sun conure here about 5 years ago and they are just the nicest people. We go back regularly to get the our bird clipped and to get food. Their prices are half of what the national brand stores and its fun to walk around and check out all the birds. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Deceitful sellers. Promised a white bellied caique baby. Drove 6 hours round trip, and bird appeared to be a mixed hybrid. Sellers assured us it was purebred. Later confirmed baby was mixed. Sellers promised to give a $200 discount on $1400 bird if we bought a cage and lots of toys and food. After we returned home, checked the $2500 receipt. Bird price was not discounted. Owners are dishonest. Don't let yourself be cheated. read more

I had such a great experience at Fancy Feathers! Ursula spent 45 minutes with me showing me my options for a family pet. She was NO pressure and as kind to the birds as could be. She sometimes forgot I was there and got in play mode with the birds which was neat to see. The store was very clean and the birds looked happy as could be. The cages were clean, no smells and no mess anywhere. Parking was easy and I cannot wait to return. I pass by on my way to Atlantic City every couple months and now I have a new favorite store to stop in. Thanks Ursula! read more

Ursula, Joyce, Jackie and all the rest of the caring staff at Fancy Feathers makes this the ONLY place in the area to board your bird. They are professional and they really care about you and your bird. God bless them. read more

I absolutely love this exotic bird store. The place is nice and very clean. The employees and the owner are outstanding and very helpful and knowledgeable. They even spent time to take out their parrot and show us tricks it does. I had bought two birds from a store in North Jersey and the owner was pretty rude. The birds were ok and I got a Jenday from a bird store in Burlington they say hand fed but he is a bit nippy and mean. My bird from here is the sweetest bird even and my buying experience here was awesome and informative. I got a birth certificate of my babies hatch date and they did her dna got results quickly. My bird is OMG the absolute best little baby you could ever want. She is loving and adorable snuggly and just wants to snuggle with my other three birds. She is very smart and attentive. She learned to flap her wings fast and is learning her colors and the coin box prop she picked up quickly. We are doing harness training. I'm so glad my friend referred me to FF if I had known about this store before I got my other three I would have adopted them all from FF. Just amazing birds and staff and owners. read more

My family absolutely loves Ursula and her staff. Loki, our greenwing macaw, is a wonderful companion. The care that he received as a hatchling was amazing. He was entirely hand fed, very well-socialized, and thoroughly weaned; birds are never rushed home. I really liked that they evaluated our family before selling us a bird. After we took Loki home (he was around 6 1/2 months old), they called several times to ensure the transition was smooth. We regularly send them pictures, chat, and board Loki there during vacations. I'm very glad we chose this business and would return in a heartbeat. Our next bird will definitely come from FF! read more

I'm looking into buying a bird and thought this would be a great place to check out through reviews and such. From the outside it's so cute and adorable and the inside as well. Had an amazing time looking at all of the birds but when I inquired on certain ones the lady explained they were the stores or someone else's or they had already been purchased. She didn't help in any sort of way of trying to show me available birds or pricing. The service ruined the whole experience. The birds were worth the 50 minuet drive but customer service.. definitely not. read more

Love this store. We got both of our birds here, and come for all our bird supplies and food, as well as treats. Staff is very knowledgable and helpful. All the birds there are very well cared for and the store is very clean. I Highly recommend Fancy Feathers for all your avian needs! read more

I don't know who was working this past Friday but my boyfriend I stopped in to talk to some people about birds and view your available birds we were not greeted and people that were working and gave us the stink-eye as we kind of stood there looking around to see if anyone would help us and no one did I felt very unwanted and the staff was very rude also the birds look like they had not one thing in their cage except for themselves I don't understand how you can own birds and not give them toys or treats or anything or jump at the chance to sell a bird or supplies to customers you guys need to get better customer service and put some toys and stuff in the bird cages I'm surprised the birds that were in there actually had their feathers and weren't picking themselves from boredom. Very poor customer service will not be back. read more

Best bird store you fill find in New Jersey . The store is family owned and operated, an dc I have gotten to know Ursula and Karl Berg so well that they have become family. Joyce is family, also, and nobody else has ever groomed our birds . We unexpectedly stumbled into Fancy Feathers 13 years ago. We have purchased an African grey, two cockatiels, three blue and gold macaws and one calico macaw. For all these years, these birds have been wonderful additions to our families. The store is always clean, and the birds are the first priority. Ursula cares more for her birds and potential bird parents than the "almighty dollar." She will not sell a bird unless she feels comfortable that a good fit has been found. You can buy toys, food, treats and have grooming services Provided. Boarding services are offered also. These are all store owners/employees who love, own, and understand birds. Whenever I have a concern or question, I call or text Ursula, and she has an answer for me ! You are welcomed like family in this store. We travel two hours down from Ocean County especially because this is the BEST EXOTIC BIRD STORE we have ever seen. The key is in the way the babies are handfed and the attention they receive before they are sold and taken home . You receive a socialized bird and can be taught anything you need to know. You will not find a better business or friendlier staff ANYWHERE in New Jersey. read more

Every experience I have had there has been excellent. Ursula and the rest of her staff are knowledgable, helpful, and are always welcoming and friendly. You can tell that they truly take pride in what they do and they really care about the parrots. My girlfriend and I bought both of our Green Cheek Conures from Fancy Feathers and we couldn't be happier with the experience. The store itself offers boarding services, grooming, and has everything you need for your feathered friends from toys, food, cages, etc. Overall, Fancy Feathers is a great store read more

They are serious and knowledgeable about birds. They are always cleaning, and the birds are very well cared for. The groomer, Joyce, is the best. They have a large selection of bird food. Owner doesn't have the most sparkling personality, but honestly, who cares. She knows a lot. read more

I've known Ursula for a few years now and purchased two parrots from her with one more on the way ! All of her babies are happy , healthy, clean , well fed and spoiled beyond anything you can ever imagine . She as well as her staff care for the babies just like infants and all God's creatures should be cared for. Ursula makes Receiving a baby and purchasing a cage and all the accessories to take home so easy and comforting just like the most adoring midwife would be in a hospital taking your first baby home . To me , Fancy Feathers, in Blackwood NJ , is the one and only place to purchase a parrot. I say this because I've visited the other bird stores in New Jersey and find them to be somewhere along the lines of a "Meat Market ". Ursula keeps her parrots in open , airy cages so the babies can breathe and hear voices and music which makes them alert and healthy ! To see and hear her speak to the babies is so heart warming and amazing . She is Dr. Doolittle and the babies adore her !! Can't say enough about Carl too ! He is just as amazing as Ursula with his fine delivery skills and loving ways with all the birds in the store !! Very family oriented and friendly ! I warn you though, don't try any funny stuff because you will be Told to mind your manners and don't tease the birds!! Hell , I'd have a shot gun ready to protect all !! I highly recommend Fancy Feathers in Blackwood NJ to purchase your or your child's first parrot ! If there were more than 5 stars I would certainly hit the button ! read more
