We have been coming here since 2005. I'm sorry some people have had negative experiences, but we and our neighbors have always found the owners to be wonderful and caring, the service sterling, and the prices good and fair. (I cannot speak to the prices they charge for shirts, however, because we launder them ourselves. Prices for dress and formal-occasion shirts are completely reasonable and consistent with market prices, imho). Their alterations, from a hem to a zipper to major tailoring, are amazing, and carefully and thoughtfully performed. There's also another important thing to me and my family: they will dry clean practically anything, and I didn't know what a big deal that was until we moved a subway stop away last year. My family and my in-laws, we both grew up in towns where we took everything we didn't want to shrink, and everything that we didn't want to fade, to the dry cleaners. Holiday towels and shower curtains, napkins and tablecloths, special sweaters, bath rugs and toilet seat covers, especially the ones with rubber backings which deteriorate in the dryer. We have items which have lasted for generations and have not faded or become brittle because we've always taken them to the dry cleaner. When we moved to the other side of 31st Street we tried every single dry cleaner over here and have been unable to find anyone in this neighborhood who will dry clean anything other than suits. Place after place refuses our linens, even sweaters, and tells us to take stuff to the laundromat and makes noises like they've never heard of anyone who wants to dry clean things like a tablecloth. I'm seriously flabbergasted by this, and still don't understand it. This morning I had one last place on the list to try that is just a little inconvenient (it's on the other side of Hoyt from us) but had great YELP reviews, and just like everyone else they completely refused stuff I've been trying to get cleaned since Christmas, so I went back to Famous Cleaners, and was so happy to be welcomed back home. read more

"No, no, no... I no understand." -- The owner's reaction to a concern, a problem, basically anything other than, "here's cash." This is my second, and last, try with this dry cleaner. The husband speaks little to no English, and the wife, who's the face of the business (she's often wearing a business suit, along with heavy rouge), speaks English when it suits her. For men's dress shirts, there are two options: in-house dry cleaning or outside laundering. She pushes and pushes and pushes for you to dry clean your shirt, even if it doesn't need to do, and even if it's a relatively inexpensive shirt. (Most of my shirts I do dry clean, but there are a few relatively casual ones that I prefer to launder.) While she's fully willing to take your money to launder your shirt, she takes ZERO RESPONSIBILITY for how they come out. "We send them out... we send them out. No, no." In addition to the shirts, I asked her to dry clean a sweater, which had a stain - a stain I pointed out in advance. The stain, which was once confined to a small area of the sleeve, somehow migrated up and down the sleeve, and is now a slightly different color. The husband worked on it -- it seems like he tried a few chemical compounds, and the "stain" is now "stains," and is totally unwearable. I just threw it in the garbage. I'm not sure what to make of the sweater, given that I asked her to fix an already imperfect article. maybe she could have initially said, "no," which would have been fine; perhaps she could have not charged me for it, considering it's now unwearable and in the trash. What I do know - AND WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW - is that this business, this woman, probably doesn't give a damn about you or your clothes. If you do decide to bring your clothes here and an issue arises, you better believe that 1) It will be your fault; and 2) Her English will quickly, as if by magic, stop working. read more

I have been a loyal customer for quite some time and have been thoroughly impressed with how this place has conducted business with me and my fellow neighbors in the area. Their prices are inexpensive ($4.00 for my pants + shirt) and they even helped get some serious stains out of a pair of pants that I had soaked in paint. They're quite polite on the phone and even more courteous in person. I've been to many places in Queens and Manhattan, but none quite like this place. Highly Recommended. read more

My boyfriend needed items dry cleaned for the New Year's week. We procrastinated, thinking all the cleaners will be open through the holidays, doing same day service. It IS NYC right?? Well, we found out-- after calling 6 places in Astoria-- it was not the case. We were happy to find that Famous Cleaners had no problem doing it for us-- thank you!! Normally I'm not in a hurry to get things dry cleaned, nor do I have very delicate, expensive articles of clothes that need expert care. So when it comes to cleaners, I just go by location and price. Famous Cleaners has great prices, though it gets a 1 star off for the location. It's a bit of a walk from the main road (31st St). Solid dry cleaning experience. I've used this place multiple times, and have always been satisfied. When I'm in a rush, they'll get me my clothes as early as possible. I wish they had pick up and delivery, as well as longer hours. Extra Star: Good customer service. Once I gave a blouse for dry cleaning. I would give Famous Cleaners 5 Stars for their prices and 4 Stars for their cleaning; however, I have to give them 2 stars due to the poor attitude of the woman at the front desk. Additionally, she almost always tries to get you to dry clean everything rather than 'Wash and Press' it. Some of the shirts I have for work are very inexpensive, and I often get dirty at my job, so it just doesn't make sense to pay $5 to dry clean a shirt that only cost $19.99. unfortunately, the woman at the front desk would not allow me to "Wash and Press" several of my work shirts as stated above so I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I love this place for it's quick and efficient service. And, after a disastrous experience at my last cleaners, this place was a welcome change. I especially appreciated some helpful tips with a stain on a skirt that couldn't be dry cleaned. My only gripe is that the prices are a bit high, but I suppose that's to be expected when coming from Long Island to Queens - though I'm more then happy to pay a little bit more to be sure that all my clothes come back in one piece! read more

Absurdly overpriced. Brought in 11 shirts for pressing- not cleaning- just pressing- owner wanted $3.50 each. NOPE. Two women's dresses and two toddler dresses- they wanted $11 for each to be dry cleaned. How are the prices for a toddlers dress and a women's dress the same? ANYWAY, went to my old spot around the corner on 23rd Avenue where the owner is so friendly, and sure enough- $2 per shirt to be pressed and $6 each for the two toddlers dresses to be dry cleaned and $8 each for the two women's dresses. Same clothes, same service, nothing different going on over there, just FAIR PRICES and customer appreciation. Oh and they actually appreciate your business and are friendly. I am really disappointed with this place. Took shirts there to dry clean - which I think is expensive for the area. But, aside from that, there were blue stains on the white shirt, which I KNOW for a fact had no stains on there when I sent it. I inspect each shirt carefully - it looked like they cleaned the shirt with a blue item together because there were light blue marks everywhere. The lady - who has a really poor attitude in general and looks pissy all the time - blamed me saying there were stains on the shirt and it wasn't their fault. Seriously... one stain I can see but there were streaks everywhere! Instead of just owning up to it, she reluctantly said they would try to get the stains out only after she insisted it wasn't their fault. Also, the whole "we don't take credit cards unless over $20" BS pisses me off. Either take them, or don't. (last time I went there, they tried to pressure me into using cash versus a credit card but I annoyingly didn't give in.) Never again will I visit this place. I am just saying...tried to support the Koreans but seriously really pissed me off this time. Don't blame the customer - i would have been ok if I had sent the shirt with stains, but I know I didn't because it is a custom made shirt and I had inspected it carefully to make sure I knew if there were any stains to clean before I went there. I am seriously detail-oriented. Messed with the wrong person for the whole "it is your fault not ours" bull crap. I warn you - don't go there! I had heard people grumble about this place. They are ALWAYS kind, courteous, professional and do a great job with the dry cleaning. I have NEVER had a problem with my dry cleaning service. I have moved to a different location in Astoria, but I still remain a loyal customer and continue to use Famous Cleaners. I moved a mile away from this laundromat and still come back on occasion. It's nice, clean, not at all claustrophobic, there are ALWAYS machines available, and they have a reasonably-priced drop-off service. On the downside, it seems to be frequented by very loud and obnoxious kids, but I can't fault the laundry for that. They have rows of benches, so if you come with friends and bring a board game, the time goes by incredibly quickly. read more
