I am retracting my initial positive review. While the doctors in this office may be competent, the experience with the optical department is nothing short of a joke. Without being long-winded, the employees, nor the owner will accept responsibility for destroying 2 pairs of high-end frames. Furthermore, I didn't receive the product I paid for. I am dealing with Essilor directly and refuse to have any communication with Family Vision Source. Next step is BBB. Always remember, you can't pee on someone's leg and tell them it's raining. Especially when the customer has done his homework and has experience in the industry. An absolute joke. I needed new contact lenses, so I found this nearby place here on Yelp. I had a great experience. The building is beautiful and comfortable, the staff is professional and friendly, and Dr. Curtis has a great demeanor. One thing I liked is that he introduced himself with his first name (rather than "Doctor Dechant" like some do). It took about a week to get my new contacts and I'm very happy with them. Advanced exam equipment, very cordial staff and easy going Optometrist (Dr. Anna Jones) who checked our (me and my wife's) eyes thoroughly and explained our conditions well and understandable. Then Anita kindly assisted us for couple hours to advise on the right frames, proper lens and other needed peripheral features. She was very friendly and tried to satisfy our liking with much patience. The only down side is that these two glasses are not cheap (more than $900), even with VSP and Blue View Vision plans.But again, of course, you can choose less expensive options. read more

Just moved to Tucson and needed to renew my contact prescription and maybe get new glasses. I read a lot of great reviews on this place and decided to check it out since it's close to where I live. First--the receptionist was friendly and the wait time was very short. The staff member who helped me through initial tests was very helpful and patient with a few questions I had. The optometrist I saw was Jeff, and he was friendly. It was a short meeting with him, though. I thought it would be longer but felt a little rushed. Maybe they're just that efficient? Other reviews said the exam and feedback from the doctor was thorough, I wouldn't call mine that. I would have liked for him to spend more time talking about my prescription and vision progress. I had to ask a lot of questions and just got the feeling I was keeping him from something. But overall, not a bad experience. The main reason why Im giving this place 5 stars is because of Kylie, the wonderful optician who helped me pick out my glasses. She went over the insurance for me, answered all my questions and spent about 45 minutes looking at frames with me. I wanted high index lenses but didn't really understand the cost and other information, so Kylie walked me through everything, even broke down the price before we even looked at frames. She definitely went above and beyond for me, and I walked out with an order placed for glasses and feeling pretty happy. Would definitely recommend this place to others! read more

Very impressed with Family Vision Source! They are very busy and their schedule fills up fast, but they are wonderful to work with as far as scheduling. I had to change my appointment three times because of unavoidable work and family conflicts and they worked with me to fit me in without having to wait months for another appointment. My appointment itself was very pleasant. The woman who did my initial tests was fabulous. Super friendly, helpful and patient. My actual appointment was with Dr. Horst and he was also friendly and helpful, as well as explanatory. Being pregnant I wasn't comfortable getting my eyes dilated so he offered other options so I could still have my eyes thoroughly tested. He seemed very knowledgable, thankfully, and I feel confident my eyes are in good hands. The appointment was quick and Dr. Horst made helpful recommendations for my contact lenses. He was also helpful in telling me about their specials and rebates to help save me money. I ordered my contacts easily, although the woman placing my order had a bit of confusion with my insurance and almost overcharged me, but it worked out and my contacts arrived a week later. I've been going to Dr. Amy and Dr. Curtis for a few years and always look forward to my appointment. They are friendly and always have time for a nice conversation, it's not a cattle call like other optical offices can be. I am a triathlete and was having issues with my contacts blowing out of my eye on the bike (totally random problem, I know) and general discomfort with my contacts. Being a runner, Dr. Amy could sympathize with dry contacts during physical activity outside so she gave me some samples of some awesome drops that helped a lot. Dr. Curtis actually found the scar tissue on my husband's retina and he gave us a great recommendation for a surgeon. They have a great selection of high-end glasses and sunglasses, and they can order any contacts for you, and usually have a rebate as well. It wasn't too long and it was very thorough. Found out I need reading glasses so I tried a bunch out. I forgot her name but she was so patient as I tried on about 30 different eyeglasses. The doctor seemed very knowledgeable but I was disappointed in the prices for glasses. They don't carry frames that match insurance coverage and basically add so many extra costs that even with insurance you walk out paying hundreds for a basic pair of glasses with basic frames. Great office, staff, and doctors. I like that they have the latest technology that lets them do the eye tests without numbing, touching, or blowing air in your eye. The effusive title is not exaggerated. I had an emergency, with metal in my eye that had rusted in the cornea. My primary care doctor did not call me back and after a day and a half, I finally got a referral, but still no personal contact from the doctor (Michael Purkis). Primary care sent a referral with no name or contact information but when I called Family VisionSource directly, they figured it out; and, after hearing I had gotten metal in my eye, even though I was not a previous patient, made time in a full schedule. Dr. Anna Jones saw me on her lunch break and took care of me with an empathetic heart and deft skill to take care of the problem quickly and fully inform me of what was happening with my eye and how she was repairing it. She gave me sympathy, even though it didn't really hurt that bad, and sadly, that is one of the first time I have felt a direct human touch from a doctor. Generally, they are typing on the computer and hardly meet a patient's eyes. I truly appreciated her manner, skill, intelligence and heart. read more

When I arrived for my appointment i had one paper to update and once I returned that I was seen promptly. From there everything was explained clearly from the testing to the exam to trying on a different contact to see if it helped with my reading vision. Professional and prompt. The Family Vision Source are very friendly, and not at all pushy. Their customer service is a perfect balance of being there when you want them and they'll leave you alone when you just want to browse. They never tried to up-sell (sell more than we wanted) and even recommended *not* buying something that we were thinking about but actually didn't need and didn't make sense. Their selection of up-to-date frames is extensive and interesting. Their eye examination equipment is absolutely state-of-the-art, and they are clearly passionate about eye health. Note: This was only for my wife and I so we cannot say how children are treated, but given how they treated us I suspect they would be great with kids. read more

I just started going to Family Vision Source after not being happy with my previous prescription. My eyes are pretty wonky and it's been challenging to find the right balance of near-close-far in transitions. I'm on the computer all day and all night, and I have a 50-minute drive to work, so I really need to be able to see clearly. I have to say that I got the best and most thorough and thoughtful eye exam I have ever gotten from Dr. Horst and his assistants. Dr. Horst is great. I like the high tech, and I like the professionalism they all display and the obvious knowledge and enthusiasm they have for their work. You feel like you're in good hands from the start. Dr. Horst suggested a prism in one of my lenses to help with my lazy eye, something no other doctor has ever suggested, and I think it's helping a lot to keep my eye turned in--which then helps with me not feeling so tired from working to hold it in. After not finding the prescription as clear as I had hoped, I went back and they are redoing the lenses. They stand by their work. I so appreciate that. They have a nice selection of frames, the opticians who help with the selection are pleasant and helpful. And they seem to accept most health insurance plans. All in all, I am very happy with Family Vision Source and am now an ardent fan who will be returning for the duration! read more

Been coming here for years---wonderful competent staff from receptionist, doc's and awesome selection of eye glasses. I see Dr Curtis and have always been very, very pleased. They have done a wonderful job on checking my insurance coverage and even going the extra mile in doing additional insurance paperwork so I can get my restasis covered by my insurance as I have dry eye and the restasis makes the gravel effect going away in my eyes. Highly recommend this office for anyone to go to. Oh---forgot to mention they have a machine that takes pictures of the eyes so you don't have to have those awful eye dilation drops and that machine is AWESOME!!!! They keep up to date on all that stuff also!!!! read more

I am not impressed with this place. I was recommended to go here from my current eye doctor to see if I had a type of Glaucoma. They told me I had a high likelihood of Narrow Angle Glaucoma. They recommend another place to test for sure. That was the whole reason I had come to this office was to test for sure and now I need to go to a specialist, a third location after paying them. Regardless, I didn't follow their recommended location which had reviews as a patient mill. I did my own research and found another doctor and turns out they were wrong. Not only were they wrong, but they billed my insurance for $465 of tests and visit that I ended up having to pay over half of that myself. I am not sure if all the test were necessary, but they looked inflated to me when I saw what they billed the insurance company. There are multiple charges for eye scans to detect disease (listed on the insurance bill), multiple ultrasounds to my eye (3), a $200 new doctor visit saying it took more than 45 minutes, Eye exam with anesthesia, etc. I remember them testing my vision, asking me to use a clicker if I saw a dot of light, and putting a yellow die in my eye and a prism on it to, plus a brief conversation after that. All that and they billed my insurance $465 (I paid $242.19) from an Optometrist (an OD) that wanted me to go to someone else for an actual diagnosis. If you are not capable of diagnosing something that another doctor sends a patient to you for, then why go thru all this and waste the patient time and change them almost $500 just to send them somewhere else? I did go to find a great doctor in town an Ophthalmologist (actual MEdical Doctor), that ran all necessary tests and billed $147 to my insurance (costing me $82.95). All to tell me I was fine. If you think you have any actual eye issues do yourself a favor and do not go to these guys. Go to a professional MD, an Ophthalmologist, that isn't going to charge you an arm and a leg and then tell you to go somewhere else for another actual medical opinion. read more

A great experience... especially when Dr Curtis gave me an extra set of trial contacts because I took too long to get back in for a follow up! It shows that they really value their customers and getting rid of those irritating contacts while I wait for my new ones to come in meant the world to me! I contacted them to try to schedule an emergency appointment. I was told that they could not get me in as they are already double booked. I have had anxiety about eye doctor visits and tests and have avoided them whenever possible for many years. Dr Anna Jones was not only kind and patient, but she is also amazingly skilled. She was able to do the test that I most feared and it was the easiest experience I have ever had (I am 38 and have had glasses since I was 2 .. So I have been going to the eye doctor all of my life). I initially went here because of all the amazing five star reviews but sadly I did not have a five-star experience. When I came in, it was a fairly normal check-in, a bit slow. They gave me a clipboard and told me to read the information, turned out to be some elective surgery. I thought that was very pushy and odd. I went through a bunch of little test with a nice lady. She was not the doctor though, at least not that I was aware of. They put these drops in your eyes that dilate your pupils, I don't recall ever having this done before. I cannot recall which doctor I saw, he was nice enough. I wanted to buy glasses when I was there but the gentleman helping me with that was rather unhelpful. All he told me was that they did not accept my insurance and that I should go to another vision place. He didn't offer any other help or payment plans or give me prices. It gets under my skin when a sales person tells me to go elsewhere and dismiss me. The doctor/front desk forgot to give me sunglasses for my dilated pupils but by that point I was too annoyed to go back. So, the doctor and assistant were nice but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

My wife and I were big fans of this Family Vision Source until the multiple problems we've experience in the past 18 months. Problems such as the office manager horribly adjusting my glasses to saying my wife's glasses were ready despite having a scratch on them (three trips to get them right). The dates when glasses and contacts were to come in were often wrong, and when we called to check on the status, we got attitude. When trying to make an appt with Dr Amy Fuhr-DeChant, my wife was instead placed with Dr Martin who recommended a horrible choice of contacts. The turnaround time was awful and they charged a fitting fee. If she just stayed with what was working, it would have saved a lot of time, hassle, and money. Over the years, the number of add-ons has increased. I hope they can stop the decline. In the meantime, we will be going elsewhere. read more
