Continuing our BC Interior tour, from our previous research, we found out that the Chef at Family Thai has many many years of culinary experience and also worked in many very popular Thai Restaurants in Vancouver before moving to Cranbrook and opening his very own. Run by the Chef and his family, the restaurant is situated on the busy Cranbrook Street, parking spots are plentiful during our dinner ( 7ish on a Tuesday night ), but I am guessing that it will get busy during weekends! Since we saw the dishes around us are all fairly well sized, we decided to order only 2 dishes: Pad Kee-Mao with Prawns ( Drunken Noodes ): I really like Chef's version here, the noodles are stir-fried with a lot of wok-hei ( the charred flavour you can only get from having high heat & skillful wok techniques ) going on which makes the noodles extra al dente and at the same time soaked up all the seasonings & spices. Drunken Noodles are supposed to be spicy to be authentic, so I am glad to taste all the extra garlic, fresh chilli, Thai Basil in the dish! Warning: If you cannot handle Thai Spiciness make sure you mention it to the server!! Pad Prik King (Thai Red Curry stir-fry Green Beans with Chicken): Outstanding creation from Chef!! This dish will make you eat a lot of rice, and you will still want more! The balance of all the spices in the Thai Red Curry is the soul of this amazing dish. You can choose your protein and as you can see we picked Chicken. The tender slices of Breast Meat was not dry at all, in fact they were extra moist and also flavourful. The opposing texture of the chicken and the crunchy green beans made a perfect match! All in all, this is truly a great addition to the culinary scene for Cranbrook, as one of the Best Thai Chefs has chosen this friendly and amazing town to call home!!

Pad Thai with classic tamarind sauce, 3/5 spice level

We came here hoping to dine-in but unfortunately, they only do take-out. When we pulled in, a server saw us and came out to take our order. The menus are posted just outside on the window so you can pick your items outside. The front door is locked so you can't enter. We got the chicken pad thai with tamarind sauce (traditional style) and Thai ice tea to share. You can pick how spicy you want your food and we selected 3/5 based on the waitress' recommendation, which was just perfect for us (we like spicy food). The food came out fairly quickly. We paid out of the window of our car. Everything was really good! The pad thai was flavourful and had the perfect balance of sour, sweet and salty. The noodles were a little soggy but that can't really be helped since it's take-out. We also really liked the iced tea and maybe should have gotten one each instead of sharing. Honestly, you don't expect the ethnic food to be great in a small town but we were pleasantly surprised! The service was friendly. Parking is outside in the lot.

The "I 9" notes are my ratings out of 10 for the dishes we have tried so far. :-)

tl;dr version STAY AWAY - horrible food and customer service…read more I want to first say I left a message and have tried to contact this business several times before I left my review. In hopes they would call me back to try to make this right. I believe businesses should want to hear feedback so they can improve as I would think a restaurant would take pride in service and their food. However, they do not answer their phone or return messages left. I made an order at 4:15pm online (because they do not answer their phones) for pickup at 5:15pm last Friday October 7. I made this order as we were at hockey and I did not want to cook that evening. I ordered two pad thai's, ginger beef and green curry. Note this order was $99.60 in total. I dont know about you but this is on the expensive side so I thought being charged this much would mean the food was excellent (we also heard it was good from people who I will now never take any of their restaurant recommendations). I paid for the order via their web service (honestly I should have said we would pay when we got there because I would have said forget my order, *hindsight*) My husband got there to pick up the order and was told they didn't have it. They looked at their computer and said oh jeez none of our online orders were printing *sigh* (hint for businesses, if you usually are busy/receive online orders check it). I received email confirmation and they should have too. If it wasn't working you'd think I wouldn't have even got email confirmation. This also could have been an excuse but I'll give them the benefit of doubt on this one. There were also several other people who were waiting as well since the same thing happened to them. Rushing to make food = bad food; which may have been a contributing factor but this is how business is lost (hopefully the owners are actually reading this; **pro tip on good business practice** - refund customers and give them a gift card for a meal properly prepared in the future or give them options on what may be the quickest to make without sacrificing quality). I tried calling the restaurant several times when my husband was told this. Each time it didnt ring it just went to voicemail, not even saying curry bowl, just leave a message. I did, thinking I would get a call back. After my husband waited 30 minutes for them to make the order he got the food. Mind you I already had my three kids and brought them home, they were all starving and I had to make dinner for them. Which really defeated the purpose of take away. When he got home, we tasted the food. It was horrible. Not even mall food level. Honestly not even at the level of the dehydrated camping food you just add water to. The pad thai, had no sauce. Literally bare without any flavour. The ginger beef was slightly better with sauce but it had some weird fried old ice cream cone things on it, for decoration, I assume. 100% inedible. The curry was flavourless and the pumpkin wasn't even cooked. This was our $100 meal. Horrible. Our dogs wouldn't even touch it. I cannot urge you enough to avoid this place at all costs, life is too short to waste money on disgusting food. Unless you like wasting money, if so by all means go here. If you decide to go here expect you will get ghosted if you have a bad experience. Lucky for this place there are a lot of new people moving here and tourists so they can have people that will give this place a try even with horrible reviews. In short if you want thai food and cant make it yourself; go to the freezer section of the grocery store and pick some up. It will taste better. Photos are from the pad thai (too this before I tasted it but you can see there is no sauce at all on it), the second one with the pink thing is the ginger beef the pink thing is not edible I have no clue what is it basically Styrofoam texture, then the uncooked pumpkin/squash from the curry and the last one is a close up of the weird garnish from the ginger beef.

Sadly disappointed! We have eaten here on multiple trips through Fernie. This time we had spring…read morerolls and summer rolls. The Thai basil is too over powering in the summer rolls. Only three small spring rolls and they weren't that great either. These took about 20+ mins to be served. After an hour waiting for simple meals that normally come out quickly, the server came over it would be soon. Clearly they forgot our meal as other tables after us got their meals. I can overlook a mistake if the food is worth the wait. Unfortunately, only one meal got eaten. We ordered a Vietnamese Noodle Bowl with pork (again the pork was laced in Thai basil), the Pad Thai lacked overall flavour, the Nasi Goreng was good. I wished we ordered three of those. Instead we went back to our condo at 8:30 and had toast for supper. I am truly disappointed as our previous experiences were so good.
