We love Japanese food so naturally headed to the one most recommended when visiting Cranbrook. We were very pleased with our choice. The service was was very friendly & efficient. The food was excellent! We had a Sashimi box & were delighted to get 2 types of fish we had never had in the Lower Mainland , one of them being a red tuna! It was delicious! They also offered a salmon teriyaki, which we hadn't seen on a menu in Vancouver either. What a delight! And then to top it off their ginger wasn't the usual bottled pink stuff, but yellow & full of flavour. Don't know if they make their own but if they bottled it I would definitely buy it. I take my mom here quite regularly and the two of us have never had a miss. The staff here are absolutely phenomenal you can't help but tip generously. The food is unbelievable if you like soft shell crab you won't find better. The house dressing on their salads are out of this world. It's usually very small, the yam is never cooked properly and it's cold. 2 out of 3 times they forgot to put something in my take out order and I've had to go back. I travel throughout BC Interior and was introduced to this little gem about 4 years ago. I never miss coming here for at least one meal each time I am in Town. The price is comparable to many other sushi restaurants, but the quality and presentation here goes above the norm. The Masters here are also very creative ... rolls you will only see here. My husband reckons this is the best place we've eaten while visiting Cranbrook. I have to agree. He had Teriyaki Eel. We shared shrimp and yam tempura which was perfectly done. I had the Rainbow roll, eel roll, with a side of seaweed salad. Glad I'd gotten the salad because the rolls were very rich. Delicious, but I could have used some pickled radish or something. For dessert my husband had deep fried mango ice cream and I had the ginger cake (so rich!). This place was a great find. An unfortunate tire mishap caused an unscheduled lunch stop in Cranbrook. We decided to look for a sushi place and thanks to Yelp, we found this one. There was a fairly large menu and when we finally narrowed the choice down to three specialty rolls they were great. Sometimes when you order these types of rolls they make them so large you can't eat them on one bite. I hate that. Thankfully it wasn't like that here. I also had some sashimi Sockeye salmon which was very good. The rolls were a neat twist on the usual and tasted very fresh. Food and portion size were decent. The staff all walked around on egg shells while who I assume is the owner barked orders and made them all nervous. It was pretty awkward to be around. We sat at the counter with zero interaction with the cooks as they went about their work with one eye locked on the dragon lady. We basically got kicked out at 9pm as the place closed literally turned off the lights and everyone left. I'm now on 30 minutes in the bathroom thanks to I'm guessing food poisoning. read more

The Sakura restaurant located in the heart of Cranbrook is truly an experience one must go through to have a complete and fruitful life (in the Kootenays anyways). I have eaten here several times and have yet to be disapointed. The tempura is light and flavorful, the sushi and sashimi could easily be mistaken for art and the flavors are quite unique too. Most, if not all of the food there will create a good impression and lasting memories (which I try to forget quickly to have an excuse to return sooner). The atmosphere in this restaurant gives the sushi lover an impression of being in the heart of Asia, with all of the comforts of home. The price of the food is maybe a bit on the high end but that is to be expected for such cultural experiences of high quality. I will continue to return to this restaurants for any occasion, whether it be a date or a business lunch or simply a good meal with friends. read more

I guess I wasn't expecting to find such good sushi in the interior of BC, but low and behold it exists. Went here with a date, and we had a nice cozy booth and were served in a very reasonable time. This is a beautiful restaurant in the heart of Cranbrook. The decor is beautiful, and the waitstaff are friendly and helpful, willing to answer any questions you might have about the menu. I ate here recently with a friend, and even for us that don't/can't eat seafood; there is something for everyone. I had their chicken rice bowl and it was awesome. There's nothing I can really complain about really, which can be rare at times. The only thing to complain about for me is pricing being a little higher than one can sometimes afford. The restaurant was quite packed, only 4 open tables left, but the server knowing of our time issues, was fast and efficient. Tuna tasted fresh, miso soup was good. I'm pretty sure this is the best restaurant in Cranbrook! I ate here 4 times over the past week and everything was good. I had Seafood Udon and Chicken Udon and both were great. We had sushi / bento boxes in one day for lunch and again, nice meal. Then sushi takeout and the nigiri and maki were both good. I'm a salmon monster and sockey was available but not the default. This is the only negative as quality establishments should not serve farmed salmon / Atlantic salmon / weird orange stuff that pretends to be salmon. My friends who are sushi connoisseurs always drag me back there, so I'd say I'm right in thinking that it's great sushi, especially for a small town. The presentation is excellent, and they have a good wine list. The service isn't outstanding, but it's not bad either. The kitchen is quick. Years ago we went to this restaurant, had our first sushi meal and loved it. Since then we have gone vegan, so no dairy, meat or other animal products. Hoping to go back here for a xmas celebration meal, I callled. During the call I asked about vegan food, none is available, If we wanted to remove the meat from a dish there would be a extra charge. Presentation, ambience and service are all high points for Sakura. The sushi is fantastic and the servers are very sweet and always take good care of their customers. The pricing is higher than some sushi bars in town, and you don't get much of a portion for the higher price. But in the end, quality wins out and it has become the best sushi place in Cranbrook now that Baker has declined in quality. read more
