We first ate at Allegra 4 years ago during vacation and made a return visit this trip. When you first walk in it seems like a very dark room but once your eyes adjust it is just fine. It's a cute little bistro and has a great deal of charm. It is not too fancy but the ambiance is very warm and welcoming and the tables are nicely spaced so you can have a good conversation with your companion. The service was good. We shared an order of prawns with chili, ginger and garlic butter and they were very good. Bread was brought to the table before our appetizers arrived and it was lovely. I kept some of the bread for dipping into the sauce from the prawns. For entrees my husband ordered the tenderloin with huckleberry and morel mushrooms on a red wine au jus. It was very good but slightly over salted. It's a good thing that we don't automatically salt our food before tasting. I had the special of the evening - a pork steak topped with pancetta and brie and it was outstanding. The assortment of vegetables served with our meals was also very good. My husband said he liked my entrée more than his. For dessert we shared a limoncello cheesecake. It was a good ending to the meal as it was very light and refreshing. This restaurant is an amazing surprise! Don't judge it by location in a small strip mall off the beaten track. The food and service were incredible and totally unexpected. The model mushroom and huckleberry salad is truly exceptional. The Icelandic cod was so fresh and delicious! My partner had the lobster and crab ravioli and was extremely happy. They offer many BC wines by the glass and a small but well chosen beer list. We are from Montana and will definitely be back again! read more

Fabulous Mediterranean restaurant in the small town of Cranbrook. Meal was amazing from start to finish and easily one of the most amazing Mediterranean meals I've had in a while Homemade bread was soft and light Starters were very flavorful: we had the risotto crab cakes and smoked salmon salad. Delicious! The lamb rack is good. Everything on the menu is. Mediterranean style, Italian tastes. We come after work all the time. One of the nice restaurants in cranbrook. My pet peeve? The owner knows us. Very friendly staff but the owner (or family member of the owner) needs to learn to stop ignoring me or backhandedly insulting my choice of dinner wine due to the price. I'm the person paying the bill, not my guests, so don't ignore me, no matter how many times my guests have dined at Allegra. Don't slip in that the previous dinner host paid for more pricy wine either, suggesting my hosted dinner was inadequate... it's not nice. I am a long time resident of Cranbrook, and have eaten everywhere in town. Allegra Restaurant is my favourite place to eat for a nice dinner out. The staff is friendly, and there are great daily specials. The soups are always a gourmet creation, especially love the wild morel mushroom soup. This is the best choice fine dining experience in Cranbrook. We have been dozens of times and never been disappointed. read more

Warm friendly service, beautifully prepared food and a cozy ambiance. I was recently in Cranbrook for my mom's birthday and we chose to celebrate at Allegra. The staff and chef couldn't be more accommodating. I reserved via email and they were quick to reply and respond to any questions. The chef even baked an amazing chocolate mousse cake for our group with just a few days warning. The wait staff was incredibly friendly the night of our "party" and the family and friends who were there all enjoyed their meals. I would highly recommend Allegra for special occasions! read more

Highly recommended. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, but not overly so. Food was made on-site from fresh ingredients and was delicious. My only complaint is that the portions are small - even someone like me with a very light appetite may leave hungry after finishing a $30 meal and that's not so great. But aside from that, this restaurant takes the cake - they have delicious food with interesting ingredients and gourmet style that you can't find anywhere else in town. The service is excellent.
