When you call in, you're going to talk to Kathy. She runs the office, and her husband Alex is the locksmith. They both know a LOT about locks, and it shows. We've used them for a couple different types of projects, and they aren't just on top of it and capable, but they're also honest. They've saved me money a couple of times when they could've charged more, and offered some great advice that kept us from needing a service call as well. Alex has replaced regular locks for us, installed keypad locks, and even basically built a brand new cylinder lock for an old garage of a type that no one uses any more. I'm worried that when he retires, we'll have to replace the whole door, but hopefully he'll be around for many years to come. I don't know if you have a ton of options when it comes to locksmiths in Hamilton County, but I do know I've worked with plenty of them in many counties, and these are the best ones I've ever come across. Once at our house, he installed the keypad lock we talked about, and helped rekey a bunch of locks around the house so we only had to deal with one key, instead of many (you can do this!). He was also just generally super nice and helpful and happy to work around my kids and my mom. He was efficient (in and out in about an hour), and the work seems like exactly what we wanted, and nothing we didn't. I don't have a ton of experience with how much these things should cost, but I do know that he did a great job and saved us a huge hassle with all the work he did. He restored several mortise locks in our 1907 home which had not been working properly in over 40 years. During that time no locksmith was able to help nor even want to tackle a lock that wasn't new. For decades we had Jerry-rigged multiple workarounds and he fixed all of the four locks in 2 hours. When he discovered that to make one lock work even better, he would have to go back to his shop and return the next day with the proper tiny part, that's precisely what he did. He arrived when he said he would, was cheerful and professional. And the cost for this service was more than fair. One word to the wise: If you have to go to his bricks and mortar location for any reason, follow your GPS faithfully. His store is tucked behind City Glass and there is no sign out front of that building advertising City Locksmith.
